I think this report should pretty much end the issue. However, I don’t have faith in congress making reasonable and sound decisions based on facts and the desires of the American people
I don't think the argument is whether the customer data is secure and are data stored within US jurisdiction. The argument is whether the company might comply with the Chinese government in the future. No evidence != impossible. I am not saying this makes sense, but it's an argument.

Bit of irony here where this report is set to influence lawmakers for our group haha. I'm not sure what independent means here as this company doesn't work for free. That being said, if this is DJI money spent on lobbying against the ban, I'm all for it.
@@chrisharris_arizona Well, technically even if DJI foots the bill, it's for "trusted investigation and reporting" to potentially be used by lobbyists, as the firm under discussion does evaluation, testing and demonstration, I think; not direct lobbying but supporting their need for evidentiary data.
@@BlairAir hahaha…glad you put “technically” because it is semantics and serves the same end goal. I hope it works. I think this potential ban is ludicrous and woefully uninformed people making decisions for their constituents that aren’t in the best interest of their constituents.
I have to say Russ that all your videos are so informative. Thanks for all you do for the drone community. Although I haven't been flying my drone as much as I would like. I still like to keep up to date.
Well done ! I don't trust lawmakers in either country (US and Canada) to always act in the best interests of consumers. Far too often, decisions come down to money and to hell with the ethics.
Very good video, great news ,like other people have said if USA companies can make a drone as good great I would buy it, however til then keep up the good work, with the news
I have been involved in the RC hobby for years (40+) and am happy that there is finally a drone that makes the hobby accessible to everyone. I love to fly the DJI drone. There will always be people who want to ruin the hobby because they don't know how much fun the hobby is. They will say things that have no evidence and are simply not true. Then, if you are high up and cause enough unrest, others will believe it to be true.
I'm not sure how many in Congress are truly concerned about the security risks. I'm guessing it's more about their own financial gain. I really don't understand how these career politicians manage to make the fortunes they do. Almost like they have info on lucrative investments ahead of everyone else....
Hi, I'm the IT nerd in the comments losing my everloving mind. For the simple fact that DJI requires you to create an account and activate your products with them they are collecting data. DJI is state owned which means any data that DJI has is also data that the CCP has. The fact that data transmissions to DJI owned infrastructure were local doesn't tell you anything about where the data goes after reaching DJI's servers. Certificate pinning is obsolete, and Transport Layer Security is literally just HTTPS. Local Data Mode is a mode that DJI created and they have complete control over how it functions and what it does so while the auditors may not have noticed any outbound network traffic *at the time they tested it* that doesn't mean it is impossible that there could ever be any outbound network traffic in certain scenarios or that DJI couldn't change it in the future, you would need to see the code to confirm that. Now I'm against the DJI ban, I think it's dumb and people should be able to choose what products they buy, but a lot of this audit is bare minimum stuff that literally everyone already does or stuff which can't be confirmed.
This is a quote from DJI's "About" info on their website: "As a privately owned and operated company, DJI focuses on our own vision, supporting creative, commercial, and nonprofit applications of our technology. "
@@mssippijim 1. There is no such thing as a privately owned company in China, every company of any appreciable size has at least one CCP member in an oversight position. 2. New China Life Insurance and New Horizons Capital are both major shareholders of DJI.
Thanks for this!! I’m getting that report to my Senator! I’ve been trying my best to draw the picture for them, but maybe this will help. I’m on IG watching the drone community over there to see if there’s any movement.
Great video, thanks for sharing. it's about time an independent party shed light on this DJI Ban debacle. Good old "American Ingenuity", you couldn't have said it any better.
My favorite quote: "We need affordable American competition." I am stuck with a Skydio 2 as I can not even upgrade to a 2+ as Skydio has left the prosumer market. So, I am pretty much interested in DJI to replace the Skydio once it makes technically sense. I don't suffer from gear acquisition syndrome, so it will be a while before I purchase a new drone as the Skydio 2 is a very good drone, albeit a bit outdated. Would an American manufacturer offer alternatives, I wouldn't mind supporting US manufacturing at a small premium. If DJI were to be a security issue, I wonder what the security risk is of iPhones snd Teslas from China.
Great video! I will do what I can to stop this Drone ban on Chinese made products. I haven't read the article but did they do a similar study on Autel?
So Russ as someone whos trying to start a drone unit for my fire department does this DJI ban mean we shouldn't move forward with purchasing a M30T. because i dont want us to spend a bunch of money then it get turned into a 9k paperweight.
Very well thought 👏 Politicians trying to get peace of it. I hope american can design better than DJI and 100 percent I will support them. Thank you for sharing this video.
This is exactly what we thought was the case. Ironically the X2 we have (not by choice and wouldn’t get another) requires internet connectivity to switch user profiles. Aside from being totally inconvenient when out in the middle of nowhere, as stated, ANYTHING connected to the internet is at risk. Let’s hope our law makers come to their senses.
I have 30+ years of info security experience, and have read & conducted other info sec audits such as this, plus experience with fingerprinting & detection, red team and network mapping. While this report was just the executive summary (I'd like to see the full audit), I don't have any concerns with DJI nor their drones, and as specified, if you have concerns, you can change modes. Note that FTI also has conducted this audit before, back in 2020. If anyone continues to throw stones at DJI, it is purely because they have an axe to grind, an iron in the fire, or are uninformed.
This will do nothing. There was never any evidence that DJI WAS a security risk. You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
I think it will definitely help but not 100%. Our government would haver to agree, you know how that goes. DJI is the best drone maker as far as I am concern especially for us recreational flyers. Keep up the great work you do.👍
Competition pushes you to up your game. If DJI is out of the picture, US drone manufacturers won't be incentivized to create, innovate or cut costs because consumers won't have a choice.
Thank you for putting this information out. I’ve been hesitant in buying a drone. I’ve noticed on marketplace lately. There’s a lot of them for sale. However, I’m kind of leery because if they’re registered to a particular person, and that person doesn’t register it, then I might not be able to fly it, I’m still trying to figure all this stuff out. I’m 70 years old and I need a hobby other than training dogs. If a drone weighs 384 g do I need a license or a certificate someone should educate me I would appreciate it.
I would love to send a copy of this report my Congressional Representative in NY-21 but I know she would poop-poop it as fake news. I support the Drone Advocacy Alliance. I will not be voting for her in November.
As someone with an infosec/appsec background, I am shocked that DJI drones don't have some kind of magical means to transmit my Avata 2 crashing in a park directly to the CCP for espionage purposes
First of all you as the user have the choice weather to share (sync) your flight data with DJI. Anyone who ever crashed or had a flyaway knows that without you enabling to sync data with DJI and send reports to DJI they have nothing and are required to fulfill a DJI care Refresh. claim.
The difference between you, your motives and others with their motives is obvious. You are open and honest about it whereas the 'powers that be' never even come close to ever admitting they have any motive other than the over hype talking points they regurgitate for political points.
My concern is politicians like Stefanik who are deeply in bed with Skydio and who just want to use the Chinese as a political strategy. Produce a drone that is as good as DJI and has as good a camera then I'm in. I don't necessarily care that it has to be from the U.S. For example I would love to see Sony get into the drone space in a more consumer centric way. They have drone experience and camera experience.
🙂❤👍Thank You Great News and Great Video and Information. Good news, hopefully it will be taken into account by the decision makers. American made would be great, but it I still far away and I'm sure it will be more expensive and full of subscriptions and bloat ware and small print.
I am from Canada and I wish this ban comes to an end soon. We in Canada tend to copy laws that are voted in the US. To see this bill pass is nothing good for us. I would love an American alternative but there is none at the moment. Hope this is temporary. Good luck to all.
