I just think helpless guys look dumb when in combat, in settings that it makes sense they won't necessarily have a helmet, sure fine, but if you want to have a frontline soldier without a helmet to me you kinda need to give him a reason to not have it anymore, maybe his helmet on his base destroyed after it got hit by shrapnel, or force fields/sitting in a vehicle

@@MortRotu than what about the guard vehicles’ machine spirit? it is said that the machine spirits come from animals. so do they count as ‘monsters’ too?
Fun fact about the old Nightwing kit from Forge World: they actually built the kit to make the wings deployable. There's a little switch on the bottom that cranks some resin gears built inside of the kit to either sweep or extend the wings. It was kinda cool. An absolute nightmare to put together in resin, but still a cool idea.
Why the War Walker exists: at the time they basically tried to give most factions an 'equivalent' across the factions, so Eldar needed a walker just like Imperial Guard had the sentinel, Marines had dreadnoughts, orks had Kanz and Dreadz.
It's actually even better, a shuriken gun shoots flimsy monomolecular disks which are deadly but can still be defeated by armor. They solve this problem by shooting many hundreds of them per second, so it's halfway between a machine gun and a flamethrower. Your Armor may bounce a shuriken, but if there's even a single weak spot in that armor the Eldar WILL find it. Shuriken weapons: the ultimate answer when the question is: "Will it blend?"
I love how nobody but tau uses AI. Eldar : AI? Nah, man. Ghosts. Humans : HERESY! Use a brain in a jar. Chaos : DAEMOOOONS!!!! Orks : Ewe wut mayt? Tyranids : Artificial? I really expected to get more out of that, tbh. TFW you realize there are only like 5 actual species in 40k.

TBH its not that there are only 5 species, there are only 6 that are worth showing as armies because they are the big players, yes the fact that Tau and Drukhari are their own armies and could be considered "major" should show you how miniscule miscellaneous xenos races are in the grand scheme of things.

The Eldar uterus walker is one of my favourites, even if I’m not sure why… I think it was the quantity of scatter lasers you could get in a squadron. But… uterus walker… cannot unhear that.
So I've been collecting Eldar since I was a kid during 2nd Edition. My first models were actually Chaos, but my Mom vomited after reading the description about Nurgle in the Codex, so I had to pick another army. She was nice enough to buy new models (I had five-man squads of Marines, Nurgle Marines, and Khorne Berserkers), which I promptly took advantage of and bought way too many pewter models, which included an Eldar Dreadnought (now called Wraithlord) and one of the much maligned War Walkers. When considering the design, I think it really is important to note that both the Dreadnought and War Walker were totally pewter and not plastic. So I imagine that the reason they have the open canopy is a mix of design choice (Eldar can survive in these lithe machines, while everything else is an armoured bulwark) and production practicality (less material with a simpler design). It's not a great design in any case, but the Eldar Falcon grav-tank is so iconic that it's going to be overshadowed anyway. When taken into the context of 2nd edition, the War Walker looks fine...at least it isn't an original Tyranid Warrior.

The third edition war walker legs are inverted wraithlord leg models and the wind screen on the later war walker is just to reuse the clear plastic canopy mold from the falcon tank model
