I think the young Anakin at the end is one of my favorite changes made to the original trilogy. I see that Anakin as the Clone Wars Anakin and as the person post-Vader Anakin wishes he had always been.
Totally agree
No it is the worst change period. All the other Force ghost are of who they were at death. Young Anakin makes no sense in any way.
@@kfrews Force ghosts have the ability to look whatever age they want in cannon. Anakin wanted to look like himself before he killed Dooku and fell into Palpatine's trap. That's why he chose that Anakin.
I see how you could like it but in my opinion I would much rather the older anakin showing his wise state once he passed on.
@@loganwurtz8059 That's completely fair.

I think Force ghosts appear as what they looked like when they were closest to the force
IMO neither version is really accurate. It should be Shaw’s version but with the scarred face because after he was redeemed Anakin was still physically scarred and burned
As a viewer, I doubt that I would have made a connection between Shaw’s version and Vader because of how scarred, gray, and still concealed he was as Vader. It makes sense in the continuity to depict Hayden as the Jedi version of anakin, and it definitely would have been more confusing to leave it as Shaw
@@CipherionYT exactly. It's puzzling to me all the backlash this has gotten

It's true, I thought Darth Vader was lying to Luke about being his father when I saw Empire in the theater as a kid.
We all did. It was a raging controversy. One rumor I heard was that Vader was a clone of Anakin.
Everyone did. It was debated right up to and after the release of Return of the Jedi
Valence Model I said the same thing when he mentioned it and I’m glad he did mention something about it. “Episode V” was a big deal because everyone was scrambling to figure out if we missed stories or movies lol We didn’t have the internet to help us out so between that and the father “lie”, everyone was even more excited to see ROTJ to solve the arguments
I did too! I thought Vader was a robot or something and didn't understand how he could be Luke's father. Of course I understood more with the next movie he was really a human under there.

Also a creepy fact about Jabba's palace after Return of the Jedi, the weird spider robots seen in the background (and also rideable in Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga) originally built the palace and took it back after the events of the Tatooine plot where they forcibly converted several of Jabba's remaining mercenaries to their side... which involved removing their brains from their bodies because Star Wars is dark like that.

''He can force kick the air''! The deadliest trick in a jedi's arsenal! lolll still laughing
I didn’t mind the change to Hayden because technically that old version of Shaw never existed. So in my head canon (never having that attachment to what it was before the switch) it would either be younger Anakin or what we saw when Luke took the mask off
The score playing during the Vader/ Luke tiff reaches its ultimate emotional peak when Luke leaps at Vader after Vader threatens Leia, I love that part, so emotional.

To me it just makes sense that young anakin appears at the end, technically old anakin never existed, his last appearance as a jedi was Hayden.

It makes more sense to me, that either they ALL get shown in their prime. Or they all get shown their age when they die. Not this inconsistency...

When vader kills the emperor, he becomes Anakin again.
Anakin from Episode 3 was perfect bc that represents who he really was/is. Anakin was never really a full fledged Jedi. He was always unstable bc of his past/childhood. That was his peak, so it’s only right that it was him.

I always liked the scene with The Emperor arriving, from a Stormtrooper point of view seeing this huge, very much feared leader in Darth Vader on his knees before The Emperor, says all you need to know about his power.
The clips from the movie were SUPER quiet.
"it's not hard to do it yourself."
Everyone trying to do a emperor impression
Every one forgets Leia said, “Luke, Its a trap” first before Ackbar. 😏
I’ve always found it interesting how Luke’s lightsaber is green, mirroring the lasers from all the tie fighters, while Darth Vader’s lightsaber is red, mirroring the lasers from all the rebel ships
I don’t think the “No...Noooo” was needed. It was more effective to have Vader go through inner conflict silently and not forecast his emotions.
Yes! My second biggest gripe of the revisions. Goddam George Lucas' need to tinker shit to death
If it was like that since the beginning no one would be complaining about it
I thought Endor was derived from "End or?" and the name Ewok was because they were like the opposite of the tall, straight-haired Wookies.
An iWook?
I never knew Wookies' real name was 'Kowe!'
Wook-ee -> EE-wock.
If they wanted Ewoks to be the opposite of Wookies, they wouldn't have covered them in fur.
Actually in their previous duel on cloud city Luke was the one to initiate without grace and Vader reacted one handed
I'm mad they got rid of the ewok song at the end.
Oh yeah
Looking back, the Executor should have crashed into Endor and put those stupid Ewoks out of their misery!

I liked Hayden as Anakin at the end of rotj, I really love it, I hope it stays
i just watched it for the first time tonight and its my favorite film of all starwars
Nice
Vader killed Anakin, (from a certain point of view technically), so it makes sense its Hayden’s ghost, cuz thats the last time we see the good Ani.
Also force ghost is a light side power, and Anakin was his closest and strongest with the light side at that time, so old Vader cant/shouldn’t be a light side force ghost.
From a storytelling pov i can see why old Ani makes sense, but in the SW universe it really doesnt.
18:50 that sad ewok scene gets me every time. I remember being deeply sad watching that when I was younger
(In the trailer of the rise of skywalker)
When C-3PO says taken one last look at my friends maybe they are uplouding is memories from the prequels and so he will forget Rey and the others....
Actually It might be really true
Yo, props to the editor for that slick Luke transition at 20:45. Very smooth.
The worst change of all was removing the Ewok victory song, that song always lingered on my head when I watched this movie as a kid.
Actually the reason Luke’s lightsaber wasn’t blue is because it was going to bled it with the sky
How did Luke get the green Kyber crystal? I always thought that he found Qui-Gon Jinn’s lightsaber in Obi Wan’s house and salvage parts from it
Kyber Crystals are colorless and Luke bleed his Green or Grandmaster. Because his lightsabler was always ment to be blue but change because all the background was in the day light blue sky☁️
Boba Fett is kind of lame after the Mandolorian.

Boba stole that Mandalorian armor in the first place. So he was fraudulent from the start. 😂😂😂
I, personally, found the addition of the Vader “Nooooo” to be a greater crime than Hayden Christensen at the end.
Yes. I very much prefer the silent contemplation.
Not a greater crime, but every bit as bad of one
I'd be OK (not great, but OK) with one "No." Either the smaller first one or the Big No as he grabs the Emperor. Having both is off-putting.
The Anakin change didn't bother me at all. The Vader "Nooooo" bothers me a lot.
Don't you get it that was anakin Skywalker coming back that's how I've always seen it
5:45 I heard that they made it green because the blue one wasn’t visible enough in the sky in Tatooine
What makes this a great video and one of my favorite channels now is the fact that you didn’t bring up Jar-Jar.
You forgot to mention that Luke had the high ground. Then Vader threw his saber.
Please do prequels as well, they are good enough to be reconised.
Nothing Disney had made is worth a shit
@@robertbradburn9616 but.. I was talking about the prequels, 123, Disney is sequels... So what you on about?
I always thought that when Luke becomes a Jedi, the Jedi have returned. I never thought it applied to Anakin. But couldn’t it be both? It’s plural as well
24:00 the change was added because the young anakin symbolises the good, as supposed to an older, more Vader-y figure. This ties well with the limitation that no sith can become a force ghost, forcing the evil to die with the body of Vader while the good is portrayed with a younger force ghost
Hayden at the end is amazing, it brings both of the trilogies together
It's actually nonsensical to depict Anakin as an aged force ghost because he never aged into the well-coifed gentleman depicted in the original film. Reverting to his last light-side form makes more sense, which would be who we saw in the pivot.
Ensnared in the creatures' tentacles while simultaneously being confronted by the Force-wielding Ezra Bridger, who brought the Purrgil to defend Lothal, the Star Destroyer is dragged from the planet's vicinity by them, leaving both Thrawn's and Bridger's fates unknown.
3:46 Umm actually: Lapti Nek was the song in the original release. It was replaced with Jedi Rocks for the Special Editions.
Exactly. Lapti Nek featured a puppet Sy Snootles and was much better than the CGI-fest that it Jedi Rocks.
Was looking for this comment
The scene where vader turns on the emperor mirrors the choice Anakin made in ep 3... but instead of choosing to save palpatine and throw windu out the window, he chooses to save his son and throw palpy out the windu. In both scenes two people Anakin holds loyalty to are locked in combat using lightning, with the aggressor (or apparent aggressor) standing above the helpless victim (or apparent victim) in both cases Anakin opts to save the victim, but in the prequels he is deceived by both palpy's manipulation and the staging... Palpy is actually the aggressor despite being prone. In ROTJ, anakin perceives the truth of the same test instead of the decption.
I always thought that Vader died because all that anger he had since he got burned, to what should be deadly accident, has vanished; like maul. Because maul only survived from all his hatred, and now that Vader has no more hatred, there is nothing holding him back from dying a natural death.
Palpatine was named Palpatine all the way back in the novelization for "Star Wars" in 1976. I have my Mom's original copy still. The prequels are basically summed up in the prologue. "Dark Lord of the Sith", Palpatine.... They had names back then. It wasn't just something Lucas came up with for the prequels, though people like to make it seem that way.

when the Ewoks are taking Han and the gang back to their village to eat them, it might be a reference to the Teddy Bear's picnic song
Great review of the film, personally I don’t mind the alteration of Anakins’ appearance in ‘the force’, I think it will do good to the younger viewers, in the sense of “Who ist THAT!?” if they left it at the original actor. The more ‘original’ viewers will understand this anyway, we have all seen all versions of the films, right? But many thanks! Love your insight, and love the chann! cheers!
6:36 You literally could not be more right about this
Y’all didn’t mention Droopy Mccool and I’m disappointed
Luke and Vader's conversation on Endor's moon is one of my top five scenes from any Star Wars film released up to this point in time.
I can handle all of the changes apart from the "No"s added to the final moments before Vader saves Luke. They utterly and completely break the tension of the moment.
the "We's-a free!" at the end is completely out place, too
I'm a firm believer that the version we should have is the one released in theaters.
Amen
Except for the emperor..
Not at all, they used little teddy bears for ewoks (which were originally supposed to be wookies) because first of all, to make hundredths of Wookie suits (the actualy suits and then backups suits for actors, etc) would be too costly, and second of all, where they were filming the endor sequences, for most of it, peter mayhew (chewbacka actor) had to be careful when wearing his suit as his outfit could resemble and possibly mistaken hunters for big foot
Notice Vader's lightsaber crossing Luke's in front of the Emperor...some can say Vader was protecting Palpatine from an attack...I think Vader might have been protecting Luke by stopping him from turning to the dark side
DO JEDI FALLEN ORDER ALL READY! YOU DID BATTLEFRONT 2, WHY NOT THIS?!

As a kid in the 80's I was a bit of a Toto fan, and of course loved Star Wars.
Now, 35 some years later I'm JUST learning this.
Star Wars love the paternal angle on things.
Chewbacca’s Tarzan scream is the same scream as the one from Revenge of the Sith when the two Wookiee planted explosives on the tank droid
This is absolutely my favourite Star Wars film.
Seeing it in the cinema aged 8 was instrumental in making me want to be a writer.
In particular the moment when Vader said "it's too late for me, Son" made me think "oooh, Hello, characters are more interesting when they're complicated!"
Honestly I don't have an issue with doing special edition edits in and of itself, like a director edition. My problem is trying to erase the original versions by not releasing them. The best DVD copy I got was the laser disc transfer.
Force ghost appear as the person wants to be remembered, and if Anakin wants to be remembered like he was before his turn to the Dark Side, I’m ok with it and it makes sense to me
Well when he died he wasn’t technically a jedi (as many people say, since he returned to the light side, he must be a jedi from there), he just returned. He was a jedi only in the prquels. As he became vader anakin died there, so his force ghost is that form. “Good” anakin didn’t age (like Sebastian Stan is meant to portrwy older anakin, but that’s not him)

Star Wars was always a kids film. It was a throwback to film serials, which were popular among kids, and was aimed at kids all along.
Anakin never looked like how he did as a force ghost in the original version, unlike in the 2004 version. I think it makes more sense for it to be Hayden Christensen because of this, therefore, I find the 2004 version of the force ghost scene better
