I am an engineer (Diesel/Electric and working on steam) on a 7.5" gauge railroad in Skykomish Wa. These are stunning engines. Awesome to see. For those who wonder ... It is way more fun than it looks. And... It looks like a lot of fun.
Where in Skykomish? I work up there several times a year repairing the power lines and havent seen anything other than the BNSF line. December/January 2019/2020 was crazy up there for us.

WHY THE EXTRA INCH? To what, the R&GN which is 15 inch gauge? It depends on the builder and what he is trying to recreate. Quite possibly the first locomotive was built to that gauge and then everything after is matched to it. It is very difficult to change a locomotives gauge; not so hard for cars. The rails are spiked or fastened down to match the equipment. The R&GN may represent 3 foot narrow gauge which would be 3 inch scale on 15 inch gauge. Sixteen inch gauge is 3.53125 scale for standard or 56.5 inch gauge. For 1.5 inch scale the track gauge is 7.5 inches but many builders use a scale of 1.6 to make the equipment better match the gauge scale. A scale of 2.5 inches on 7.5 inch gauge represents 3 foot gauge equipment. It seems confusing but gauge and scale do not exactly correlate and are not interchangeable for meaning.
Yep you're pretty much spot on. If the wheels were in the same position it would cause a lurching motion each time they rotated and if they were 180 degrees off it create rocking from side to side.
You want to sell one of the engines with coal car, 3 community cars 4 flat cars and 4 stone cars and a caboose, if so I am interested in a set for my property! What gauge steel are you using for the tracks, so when I ask a steel mill they would know what I am asking for?
Looks like you're all having way to much fun. Very nice setup indeed, and love the whistles, some sound like our old electric MU cars did in the UK. Such whistles are still, happily, used by London Transport's underground trains, even on new builds.

Impressive railway. But why the extra inch? And 10:42 What's he doing, the Eton Boating Song?

Wonderful, just wonderful. I have always loved the railways. You Americans sure know how to do it.
It is such a wonderful railroad like the others.
I would like to visit this railroad.
Wow, steam train lovers paradise!
Hey just a general train question but are the wheels on each side 90 degrees offset In rotation so it can start easier and be smoother? Thanks! 😊
Yep you're pretty much spot on. If the wheels were in the same position it would cause a lurching motion each time they rotated and if they were 180 degrees off it create rocking from side to side.
@@2KXMKR thank you so much i've been trying to find the answer to this for over a year xD
@@BigCroca XD No problem glad I could help. 2:00 The white crescents on the inside of the wheel are counter weights. They also help smooth things out.

Beautiful steam engines, amazing track.👍
I wonder if the cars just sit right on top of the wheels, not bolted down like they do in the full size trains?
this scale is awesome, atleast people fit inside it, not like the other scale where the engine is between your legs
Beautyful i like the little steamtrains. We have in Dresden a Railroad in the great Garden. Liliput Railroad with two steamlocos and two batterylocos
were can i buy on of these i have the track becouse i own my own yard for my business i have extra rail

How does one even get a hold of these steam locomotives? Can you buy them as a kit or so you have to have them custom built.
They are most likely custom built, but I don’t know for sure.
You want to sell one of the engines with coal car, 3 community cars 4 flat cars and 4 stone cars and a caboose, if so I am interested in a set for my property! What gauge steel are you using for the tracks, so when I ask a steel mill they would know what I am asking for?
