    I am an engineer (Diesel/Electric and working on steam) on a 7.5" gauge railroad in Skykomish Wa. These are stunning engines. Awesome to see. For those who wonder ... It is way more fun than it looks. And... It looks like a lot of fun.

      Where in Skykomish? I work up there several times a year repairing the power lines and havent seen anything other than the BNSF line. December/January 2019/2020 was crazy up there for us.

    Impressive railway. But why the extra inch? And 10:42 What's he doing, the Eton Boating Song?

    • @royreynolds108
      @royreynolds108 8 лет назад

      WHY THE EXTRA INCH? To what, the R&GN which is 15 inch gauge? It depends on the builder and what he is trying to recreate. Quite possibly the first locomotive was built to that gauge and then everything after is matched to it. It is very difficult to change a locomotives gauge; not so hard for cars. The rails are spiked or fastened down to match the equipment.
      The R&GN may represent 3 foot narrow gauge which would be 3 inch scale on 15 inch gauge. Sixteen inch gauge is 3.53125 scale for standard or 56.5 inch gauge. For 1.5 inch scale the track gauge is 7.5 inches but many builders use a scale of 1.6 to make the equipment better match the gauge scale. A scale of 2.5 inches on 7.5 inch gauge represents 3 foot gauge equipment. It seems confusing but gauge and scale do not exactly correlate and are not interchangeable for meaning.

    Hey just a general train question but are the wheels on each side 90 degrees offset In rotation so it can start easier and be smoother? Thanks! 😊

    • @2KXMKR
      @2KXMKR 5 лет назад +2

      Yep you're pretty much spot on. If the wheels were in the same position it would cause a lurching motion each time they rotated and if they were 180 degrees off it create rocking from side to side.
