The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is actually the Inspiration for the Ardsdale Miniature Railway in Thomas & Friends. Northern Rock is Jock, River Mite is Mike, River Esk is Rex, and River Irt (Pronounced River Urt) is Bert.
I visited the Bure Valley Railway twice and both times it was amazing. I was planning to visit the Ravenglass and the RHDR railways as well, but I moved from England, so now I have to wait longer to visit those places. 😀🚂
Would love to someday take my nephew and 2 nieces to a lil' railway like that, if I manage to make even more money liable enough to go traveling to places I have yet to visit.
Me and my friends had an interesting debate over whether Ravenglass is a miniture or a narrow gauge railway. Because it used miniture engines, to do the job of a narrow gauge railway. Hauling heavy freight, servicing industries, running as a profitable buisnesss as well as hauling passengers. For decades it generally acted like a narrow gauge railway... Yet it's steam trains are designed as miniture versions of mainline engines, because the railway was intended to promote Basset Lowke's model ralway products.
Did this locomotive ever run along the prom in NEW BRIGHTON, WALLASEY, OWNED AT THE TIME BY TOMMY MANN, ALWAYS WONDERED WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HIS LOCOMOTIVE, MANY HAPPY MEMORIES OF IT AS A KID Just that this loco looks very similar, it had "COLLINS " ON THE SIDE NAMEPLATE IN 1955?

It LOOKS LIKE a generator van.!🧐!, but, I can't think of a reason why there should be one of these on a miniature steam railway, that usually run in DAYLIGHT hrs, in the SUMMER.!🧐🤔🧐!. SO... PLEASE COULD SOMEONE LET ME KNOW WHATS GOING ON HERE.? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. Rich.
It is a generator van. It's there to power the passenger cabin lights/heating and the rear light, the interior lights are because this train goes through a tunnel (really a underpass), or sometimes night excursions.
