Everyone who knows me says i am extremely intelligent and think and analyse on a deep level but i get so angry at myself that despite it being easy for me to walk into most jobs, i just can’t seem to hold one down. Issue with authority? Consistency? Complacency and boredom? Lack of commitment? Lack of job support and reasonable adjustments? All of the above? I have no idea but i keep re trying. I punish myself a lot and make things difficult for myself all the time but i always continue to try and find myself and be the best i can. I LOVE building camper-vans more than anything but i just don’t think its a viable sustainable career choice lol
I am deaf, and I have a Class 1 and RNIDES Card. Despite having over 26 months of no experience, I still have not found a good job to start. All the job postings emphasize the need for more and more experience. The pay within a 30-mile radius of my home is quite low. The highest offer I received was £13.55 per hour for a Class 1 job that required me to be away from home. I decided not to accept that offer and instead opted for self-employment driving a van, where I can earn £250 a day. My working hours are from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 6 pm. This way, I can work in a more relaxed manner without having to deal with STUPID tachograph rules.
Should've focused in school then. You had every opportunity as everyone else to do anything else and get in to college and university.
@@Giggs-SN1 I did try the school, none of them accept me because I am lack in BSL (British Sign Language) required level four, which I have level one, the course is 3 years. Why bother.
@@Giggs-SN1 You qualify as a proper ass hole.
The wages are terrible, and the treatment from customers is bad, the overheads are so high due to big companies driving prices of haulage down (hence why owner operators is a very rare thing, CEVA/GXO/Culina are dominating the industry and putting it on its knees with low rates, so wages stay stagnant, BUT the only reason we get paid well at £14, is youve worked 80-90 hours a week... which ofcourse the take home pay sounds good.
There is too many downsides to this industry, and not enough plus's.
@@mynameiscammy2512 totally agree. I looked into owner operator and was baffled how anyone affords to do it. Also so many loops to jump through like the O license and storage of unit. What i hate is this “we will replace you if you don’t want to do as you’re told” attitude. Completely agree about the money. Good money can be earned but it’s beyond ridiculous the amount of hours you need to work to achieve that. It’s a shame because it could be a happy and freeing job if it weren’t for the attitudes towards drivers and expectations of long hours.
Mate I'm retired now 74 did 40 years you have it so good now sat nav put on bay if dont like get out your choice
@@johnwheeler2040 dunno about “easy” i drove before sat navs and used maps. My first job was as a drivers mate navigating using maps and delivering fridge freezers and household furniture and yet now regardless of sat nav it is far from “easy”. The driving and following a sat nav is easy i agree. The job isn’t “hard” it’s the being took for a cnut and spoken to like a dog for total shit money thats the bit that is shit. I came back to HGV driving after 15 years done it for 3 days and got rid of that job 3 days later.
This is why that Fuel shortage happened 2 year ago , as imagine you have passed your ADR certification and then your getting £15 quid an hour? Totally ridiculous , My late dad used to drive Class 2 lorries and it was more trouble than it was worth , not only did he have to deliver the loads but he had to then unload the stuff himself using a forklift truck or if it wasn't curtain sided he would use a pump truck , totally ridiculous as in my opinion the people receiving the goods should be unloading their own stuff not the other way round. I myself have tried van driving in my past lasted 1 month delivering paint for Dulux and that was awful , the worst day was when a gust of wind blew a can of paint over and it went over a customers vehicle ,luckily it was not a man but a woman who owned the car and she was calm and just did an insurance claim but yeah i knew then i was not cut out for that , instead i found retail work to be my thing , either stacking shelves or helping on the checkouts at Waitrose much calmer environment , you do get the odd nasty customer but no where near as stressful as driving is nowadays , anyway i wish you luck and hope you can find a settled career.
@@Cayres9 it’s totally understandable about the shortage of fuel my ADR cost me nearly 1k and is literally useless. I have worked jobs as well where you need to unload. Dreams make you unload the beds and sofas and take them in to room of choice. Some companies give you a pump truck and some have moffetts. I agree that shouldnt really be the drivers job. Their back and spine agrees haha. Finding a career you enjoy is hard to be honest. My last job was a manager before that a social worker before that an electrician and before that a HGV driver. I have spent well over 100k on qualifications and still haven’t found what feels right to me. I have a serious issue with authority and im beginning to think maybe starting my own company might be the only way for me.
@@Baloovanz I agree 💯👍 maybe 🤔 start your own haulage firm with your own trucks and vans ? As people always need a removals company or the use of HGV or vans to deliver goods around , my uncle is self employed and said never work for another person, always try to work for yourself 👍
I worked for a leading bank for 10 years before jumping on the class 1
My first month was a shocker.. u meet all sorts
Best to just ignore them otherwise you’ll just get dragged down .. u work for. dHL ?
I’m based at Fradley dhl !
@@abc33944 it was Fradley i was at for literally 3 days 😂. To be fair as far as companies go they were great, drivers were sound, trainers were sound, half the office staff where sarcy cnuts but delivery point staff at the likes BMW and Wincanton where absolute tossers. Even just people who were nothing to do with them, drivers, security, parking wardens-people just have a sh1t attitude towards HGV drivers. My prior job i worked half the hours for double the pay and received nothing but gratitude for the work i done (not in this industry) so im off back to it.
Dam about to start my medical test soon before theory tests. I want to work as class 1.
As i have no other skill. Hopefully i make £17 an hr and more.
Everyone’s experience is different and you might really enjoy it. I wish you all the best with it.
Don't listen to the negative comments it's not like that for everyone mate. I've been on class 1 for over 2 years and it's a great job, long hours mind you but worth it for me. I work for a good company and I'm paid well, so good luck for the future and just take your time, you'll maybe struggle for 6 months but stick with it, and practice that blind side as you'll need that skill at some point.
@@chickenofthecave7046 i already left it mate. I did around 10 years on class 2 and the industry is the same. For agency workers anyway. Makes me laugh actually that 99% of companies want you to have a year or 2 experience on class 1 yet nobody will give you the experience and ignore your 10 years on class 2. I agree though not all companies are the same but for me the industry is the same. Most drivers are great, a good laugh and work hard. Its the “office” and delivery point staff that grate on me. Not worth working 60 hours a week and being spoken to like a dog for £15 an hour.
Any tips? I am going to be with that company too soon. Still new to HGV hence I ask. Thanks👍🏻
@@maciej_zieba Hey, yes i would say they are very strict on safety in the yard so make sure you follow their procedures. However, my uncle who works for them has had to tell them he won’t take a faulty vehicle out and they’ve tried to push him too so stand your ground if it is something you could get a penalty by VOSA for. They are pretty good to work for to be honest but some places you deliver too are vile rude obnoxious twats. Again don’t take no shit but equally do everything right stand your ground and you will be fine 💪🏼 best of luck with it mate i’m sure you will enjoy it. 😎
@@maciej_zieba also always make sure you have spare tacho rolls on you because their cabs never have any. Mostly brand new vehicles though so nice to drive them 😎 Brewery work not so fun though 😂
Much appreciated!!😁👍🏻
I've only done a few weeks out so I'm sure its gonna be okay. Did come across a few idiots already but I just say it's part of the job😆
I'll make sure to bring spare tacho rolls. Just getting the hang of it all still...or so I think🤣
Thanks again👍🏻
Drive safe!
@@maciej_zieba mate i tell you what, there are LOADS of negative people in that industry that will tell you how shit it is and how much they hate it…yet they’re still there. It’s a decent job if you are happy to work long hours and that’s the issue for me too many hours away from my disabled son. It is a good industry where you can effectively be your own boss. Keep to yourself, don’t involve yourself in drama or take stupid risks and have a calm but confident and patient but motivated approach and you will love it. Wish you all the best with it mate and keep safe out there 😎
Yeah I get what you mean, for now I'm young and no commitment so hours don't affect me as much.
Always wanted to do this as a kid so money is just a bonus😂 I try not looking at this as a job much. As you even say, you are your own boss.
We shall see how it goes cus same place, maybe see you about haha👍🏻
Shift work, regardless of what it is, will mean the end of your life. You can't get the time back, then there is the exhaustion and social life destroyed. Money not worth it.
@@rickreid8572 totally agree 👌
I know what you mean, im 67 and still looking for my ideal job,i fancy the police?.
@@gefleigh4264 funny enough i applied to the police about 5 years back and twice before that. I have a degree and interview well, i passed the police written tests at Snow Hill station in Birmingham and do you know why i was refused all 3 times? Because i have a tatoo on my hand of a clock, showing the time my dad died with the word dad. I highlighted that their website says they do accept tatoos unless offensive (staffs police have loads of tatooed people). They said “but it also says if it is garrish and we consider yours to be large and garish” 😂 my uncle just left the police he was a sergeant and he said its a very “if your face fits” kind of place. He hated it and did 15 years there. Now he is cabin crew and a HGV driver 😂
