How to crochet the knit stitch (waistcoat stitch) in the round: Step 1. The waistcoat stitch (WST) always starts with a foundation chain and a round of regular single crochet (SC). Complete the first round and you're ready to start with the WST from the second round. Step 2. Insert hook in the middle of the "V", in between the 2 vertical bars of the SC. Watch the back side of your work: the hook has to come out through the center as well. Step 3. Yarn over (YO) and pull up a loop. This is called the "golden loop" and you have to pull it up higher than you normally would. This is a critical step for the successful WST, and it's what makes it possible for you to insert your hook through the vertical bars the next time you come around to this stitch! If your waistcoat stitches are too tight for you to comfortably insert your hook through the "V", it probably means you're not pulling this loop high enough. If it's your first time working with this stitch, it should feel as if your tension is too loose - that's how you know it's just right. Step 4. YO and pull through both loops on hook to complete the WST. Repeat steps 2-4 to complete the round. Bonus tip! Since the tension is very different than most crochet stitches, hook size doesn't matter as much as it does with other stitches. You're going to exaggerate that first loop so much, it won't matter how big or small your hook is. I prefer smaller hooks because it's easier to jam them in between the vertical bars! I also have a written guide on my blog under "Tutorials", with static pictures to follow along if that's more your thing! Find it on crochethighway.com ✨️
it starts with a base of normal single crochet- start with your chain or magic ring and do a row or round in normal SC. after that initial row you start going into the V, rather than under the two loops. to increase either do two single crochets into the v, i prefer to do one single crochet under the top loops, and then a single crochet in a v stitch. if you need a better explanation i could probably film it and send it via instagram!
creates a beautiful thick knit look 🥰 i do recommend using a bigger hook than you’d expect though. the V’s can be really tight. for example i normally use a 5mm with most weight 4 yarns, but for waistcoat i bump up to either a 6 or 6.5mm hook, but definitely play around with it! ❤️

It looks almost like a knit. This is a cool trick.
I agree! ❤️
It looks like the stockinette knit stitch on the right side. Interesting! ❤
This is by far the best tutorial of this stitch I have found! ❤ I love how clearly you can see where the stitch comes out in the back - thank you!!
Awesome, I love the look of knitting for certain things but enjoy crocheting more so this is very handy!

Thank you 👏👏👏 for this nice stitch and nice music 🥰🥰🥰😍😍
You are welcome 😊
I love this stitch ✨
I really like this stitch
I still don't get it
Very clear!
How did you do the spiral pattern?
It looks like the spiral just formed itself.
@@cassidylang4344 working in the round normally doesn’t create the type of spiral pattern shown in the video
With this particular stitch the increases on each round are more noticeable. They also most likely don't join with a slip stitch after each round.
Bonito.Gracias ❤
Ty!!!
Says full tutorial in caption but isnt showing it on my end
I added it the pinned comment ❤️

Does the knit effect only work in the round
