- BAE Systems has secured a $184 million contract modification from the U.S. Army for an additional 48 Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPVs), furthering the modernization of the Army's Armored Brigade Combat Teams (ABCTs). The AMPV family includes five key variants-General Purpose, Medical Evacuation, Medical Treatment, Mission Command, and Mortar Carrier-each offering advanced mobility, survivability, and communication capabilities. Designed to replace the aging M113 vehicles, AMPVs are a critical part of the Army’s Next Generation Combat Vehicle program, ensuring enhanced battlefield performance. With modular designs and future upgrade capabilities, these vehicles are central to the Army’s strategy for improved logistics, maintenance, and digital integration, positioning AMPVs as a cornerstone in modern military operations. BAE Systems has expanded production facilities to meet the rising demand for AMPVs, marking significant progress in the U.S. military’s modernization priorities.
122 vehicles per year is nowhere near enough to account for the expected demands a “near peer” conflict will entail.
umm, these don't float. I think we are ok.
Well, I think they will only get rid of old vehicles as the new ones come in.
These are for mechanized soldiers. Protects against artillery shrapnel and small arms. It’s not perfect. But it’s better than the old 113s.
I am just thinking 120 a year is far to little. The US has thousands needing replacement.
Somewhere out there Mike Sparks is crying in his beer.
The Canadian Army should invest in this, with its diversity and modular infrastructure the RCA will be able to field a lethal platform to complement the leopards.
I hope the FDC version looks better than the 577, that thing would look like the Beverly Hillbillies are going to the field.
Okay is it me or does the vehicle height on the version with a cannon look taller than an old M60 or ?
Are they actually new production vehicles or just rebuilt Bradley hulls?
New.
I see Bradley's
It’s uh…
It’s something vaguely resembling Efficiency
…
So when are They Gonna get around to installing ACs?
You know, the ones They claimed the *“crews didn’t want”
So a Bradley hull. Got t.
Still looks like a 13.
i thought they already replace it with the IFVs and MRAPs 🙄
And I thought the Stryker was the replacement for the M113.
@@mjk9388 what a total POS the Stryker is.
@@mjk9388the initial version was worse in armour than the then current version of the M-113.
@@jacksonteller1337 wow, didn’t know that, thanks
@@mjk9388 worked alongside the GI's in several warm countries fighting Tango's (RUclips doesn't allow the civilian designation).
it looks insanely ugly
Sitting duck for a $250.00 drone !
One of the variants pictured here from BAE looked like an anti-air/anti-drone model, but, yeah, it's too easy to take armored vehicles out now.
Our generals and the great industrial war machine are still.fighting WW2 , that's where the money is and every congress man wants a piece of that pie in their state ! Its cheaper to turn the nerds loose with their drones , think about all the lives saved !
So what would you like mechanised units to use exactly??
Horses ! 🦄
