What an architect does is typically hidden behind closed doors. But, as architecture students, how do we know what we are getting ourselves into?
Why is it such a mystery as to what an architect does? The profession of architecture might not be as glorious as it seems.
In this full architecture documentary, you will witness what a day in the life of an architect looks, feels, and tastes like (spoiler: coffee). Truthfully, the life of an architect is not all sunshine and rainbows. Despite the stress, late nights and years of rigorous study and practice . . . in the end, is it worth becoming an architect? Is the architecture life rightfully exalted?
The documentary “Behind Closed Doors - The Life of an Architect” will allow you to witness a day in the life of architects, interior architects, interior designers, draftsmen, BIM managers, landscape architects, graduates of architecture, intern architects and architecture students.
From morning to evening, you will experience what it’s like and whether it’s something you might be interested in doing or continuing.
Zaha Hadid once said “if you want an easy life, don’t become an architect”.
In the documentary, you will see what Hadid was talking about. What are these big challenges that you will need to learn to overcome? More importantly, HOW can you overcome them?
The interviewees in this documentary provide an insight into their lives within the architecture profession. They share their biggest struggles, their favourite moments, their advice to their younger selves and answer the question “is it all worth it?”.
If you’ve ever thought about studying architecture or becoming an architect, this documentary is a must watch. So much of what an architect does is hidden behind closed doors. So, let us open them. Let us dive into the life of an architect behind closed doors.

I can't believe I am just seeing this, I am currently studying in unisa in architectural studies, it crazy seeing already achieved architects was once in the same boat I am in. I also thought your face seemed familar, I reckon I have seen you in Barbara hansen level 5 a couple times this year. I am currently in second year, well in a way you have motivated me to see my studies through thanks :)
That's awesome mate! I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you ever see me around please say hi! Would love to meet you.
@@kylesinko You bet :)
Totally can relate
I want to become an architect so badly but architecture school and the job itself seems so intimidating! Idk if it’s cut out for me. I keep watching your videos to try and decide if architecture is something for me.
Thanks Russ, this documentary should be your final video to help you decide! That's what it's all about :)
I've practiced architecture for years without being licensed. I've designed many homes and additions its all about taking it step and step. No reason to feel itimatedated. lI love the architecture. There is a way to get into the field without school or licensing, its not easy, but it can be fulfilling. That my two cents.
This looks great! Can't wait!
Thanks Halima!
As an architecture student i slept 4-5 hrs a day and sometimes i don't sleep within 2 days straight lol...coffee is the key... And yeah it is not good to our bodies but can't help it... I need to take a risk if i want to survive architecture.
I'm with you in that boat. Not healthy, but we do it to ourselves because we enjoy what we're doing. Just like as a kid staying up all night playing video games
Got 3 deadlines on Monday.. still gonna watch this LOL😂😂
Haha legend! Good luck with your deadlines
