You should do an updated video where you have a pen and paper and draw up some layout options for if/when you need to throw the back seats back in. I love how modular your set up is mate, I'm feeling very inspired. I watched this video when you uploaded it but I keep coming back to it as I get closer to starting my build

Yeah love this sort of setup. Plenty of space to chuck stuff in if you aren't 4wd'ing as well and the different loads can be carried for different trips. Exactly what I have been thinking about for mine although it isn't as big. Didn't want to take the rear seat out but seeing what you have done has got me thinking. I have similar tie down points screwed into where the rear 2 seats would have been in mine and they are necessary as the factory plastic tie downs are pretty pathetic. I took these out as well and screwed some s/steel eye bolts into the threaded inserts the originals were in. Only 6mm threads but much better than they were and being able to strap from different directions means not having to crank the guys out of just one strap. Glad you went this way as it is what I set out to do but felt a bit of an amateur, which I am, as everyone else seemed to be carting their worldly belongings with them and weighed somewhere close to a Centurion tank. 3:51 now why didn't i think of that with the rear lights. I have replaced the standard interior light with a LED globe but it's still a bit crap. Now i am going to make this mod myself good one Tim.

I'll be taking the seats out of the 76 series and putting a flat platform down. Personally I don't like the position of the pie warmer. You might wear it if you hit the anchors mate. I also would've kept the original cargo barrier as you've saved a lot of weight by removing the seats and drawers. I like how you've simplified things though. Thanks for sharing Tim
Gday mate. That pie Warner is very well anchored, I really like where it is. The original cargo barrier wouldn’t have worked. The bottom 30cm bends towards the front of the car. No good at all. I'm currently fixing up a 2002 GU Patrol. Planning on altering the interior later on, this is some great inspiration. I reckon I'll try and do something similar, mind you I doubt it'll look as good as what you've done ahaha

Im gonna need a trailee for our camping gear I think 😬 Our sons car seat takes up one half of the back seats and if we take the dogs they take up the rear area of my GQ.. so gonna need to sort some slim draws and a trailer when the dogs come. Love the set up mate!!!

G'day Timmy, I have been looking enviously at your adjustable, swinging camp fire cooking stand/accessories. I reckon they are 'the business'. Is it possible, please, that you could provide some dimensions of them? Better still, maybe advice as to the smithy who made them for you. Now that, indeed, would be grand.
Not being from Australia I thought liquid nails was cutex. 😂 Seriously handy bit of kit to do touch ups with or make marks you can even use them on PCBs.
Love it. Just thinking perhaps a mezzanine made of left over mesh at the same height as the oven. You can put your oven on it so it points out through the door, and have room for lighter, bulkier things like blankets and hats? A couple of 4" ply uprights behind the front seats braced to the base should be sufficient to hold that up given it is tied into the cargo barrier mesh and for some rigidity across the mezzanine mesh via another 4" ply supporting the edge of the mezzanine mesh and suitably profiled to fit snugly into the roof? Maybe something to consider?

Nice setup Tim, I've just removed my second row seats out of the Patrol and want to put in a flat floor from rear doors to behind the front seats so as I can sleep in the vehicle without the need to haul around a tent or swag. You have given me some great ideas, thanks mate.

Great job champ looks a bit like mine , did you do the gvm upgrade because all seats removed ??? I did gvm now 3490kg , behind the front seats i fitted 3 agm 140amps batteries ,and fitted a inner spring mattress for camping ,i tow a 7x4 off road box trailer with the gear and same on roof rack , we use the back for late night arrivals or between destinations

@@timbates4wdadventures i had to get the gvm upgraded under old ADR cert ,2008 , i dont carry much just the normal amout of gear ,seen so many getting busted for over weight mainly the v8 landcruiser mobs lol ,with all the gear and no idea hahahaha, you done a great neat job of the rear mate ,yeah trailer great ,can stay for 2 month off road without restocking for food and water ,that was stretching it ,had to find my limits , its a learning curve while having fun

I'm taking mine out but they seem to have a fixing rod that I can't get to, one in each seat located centrally at the back of the seat and fixed to the car floor. Gday mate No, I didn’t have any problems getting the second row seats out. Un bolted easy. But, it’s fairly involved if you want to do it legally. I have a video on my channel about what’s required to take seas out and stay legal. My Patrol is now a signed off and Vic Roads registered 2 seater Patrol. Maybe check out that video mate. Good setup young felah,my rig l want to be able to sleep in so its a bit more tricky to plan,at the moment l just finishing of putting a turbo in so l can drag of all these nissans and toyotas 4x4 drivers. You stay safe and if you see a land rover rolling on past you it would be me.

Little tip for the rear roof light, swap the old bulb with an LED equivalent and you'll get a ton more light and can even choose colours, and costs nothing.

Interested to know what rings of fire those bureaucrats at VicRoads made u jump thru, to allow the removal of the seats? Was the cargo barrier something they insisted on? Can you leave the seat belt buckles in the floor? I have 2 dogs that have harnesses that clip in to the buckle. You’ve given me some ideas for my Navara 👍🇦🇺

@@chriscoyne4827 Absolutely mate. The ball weight of a caravan gets added to tow car. So, combined weight of the loaded 4wd and ball weight, needs to be under the GVM of the vehicle.
Looks good Tim, looks like you have cut out the seatbelts in the second row of seats? I did the same for the third row but does that not stop you putting in the second row in the future?

I’d been toying with the idea of taking out one of the rear seats (my daughter needs the other one). I decided against it - knowing my luck, the moment I took it out, I’d need to put it back in again! I could do with a cargo barrier and some decent tie down points in the back, this has given me some ideas.

Looks to be a M10 or M12 eye bolt rated at 0.23 ton just make sure you get a big enough eye bolt for whatever you intend on hooking to it. Tim might want to chime in and correct me about the size if Im wrong.
G'day mate, I got those from Bunnings. I think they are M10 bolts that screw in. If you take one of your old bolts from the dickie seats. Bunnings has a bolt hole size chart, that you can screw in the bolt to see what size thread you need. Thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim.

G'day Ron, Before i started removing anything. The Patrol weighed in at 3200kgs with both full tanks. It went back on last week with two full fuel tanks and fridge in at 2920kgs. GVM is 3030kgs. Massive weight drop. Im going to talk more about this on Wednesday nights live . Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures yep Tim , I'm in Warragul and have run my Y62 over the bridge quite a few times , I even run Wgul Nissans , S3 demo over before I decided to buy one a stock S3 or S4 with the 2 of us and a full tank is 3T , 1540 front axle , 1460 rear axle , there is a lot of Y62's towing big vans that would be well over weight , the Toyota 200 wouldn't be any better off .

Hi Tim, This looks really useful set up. I would like to disagree with you on the location of the oven. I think you run the risk of a projectile injury in the case of an accident. It looks too much like it’s at head height and only secured to an aluminium mesh. The travel buddy weighs about 6kg and I would hate to see this dislodge. Thank you for the post and please consider an oven relocation. Regards Alex

Thats where i got them from. Bunnings in Warragul. Take an old bolt with you and they should have a thread chart hanging near the bolts. Then you can see what thread size they are. Mine are M10 thread. Cheers Tim.

2:42. ... those eye bolts, where specifically did you get them from? I've had absolutely no luck trying to find them in Melbourne. I've been to Bunnings, Mitre 10, several specialist bolt stores aboutI've even tried automotive stores. Happy to drive to Warragul to get a chickens tooth from a wild goose.

@@timbates4wdadventures Nope, Failed on my quest to find these elusive eye bolts, Bunnings, Warragul, like every other Bunnings have the m10 with a course 1.5 thread, my patrol (2002) has m10 fine 1.25 thread. Yours didn’t go in easy then become tight very quickly? I’ve solved the problem by using a m10 1.25 pitch stud (a bolt won’t fit through the eye) with a m12 eye nut There are a number of posts on various forums that point me in the direction of race and rally shops (probably at half a million dollars for 2) to find the exact ones. Either way it was nice to get out of town and go for a short drive.
@@DMSVICAU Thats weird mate. As i mentioned i got mine at Warragul. Mine screwed all the way in. I took one of the original bolts with me and tried it in the test sheet they have hanging near the bolts. That way i got to right size bolts. Good it got you out of town for a while. Cheers Tim.

A couple of 4" ply uprights behind the front seats braced to the base should be sufficient to hold that up given it is tied into the cargo barrier mesh and for some rigidity across the mezzanine mesh via another 4" ply supporting the edge of the mezzanine mesh and suitably profiled to fit snugly into the roof? Maybe something to consider?

Nice setup Tim, I've just removed my second row seats out of the Patrol and want to put in a flat floor from rear doors to behind the front seats so as I can sleep in the vehicle without the need to haul around a tent or swag. You have given me some great ideas, thanks mate.

Great job champ looks a bit like mine , did you do the gvm upgrade because all seats removed ??? I did gvm now 3490kg , behind the front seats i fitted 3 agm 140amps batteries ,and fitted a inner spring mattress for camping ,i tow a 7x4 off road box trailer with the gear and same on roof rack , we use the back for late night arrivals or between destinations

No, I didn’t get a GVM upgrade so I could carry move weight.
I wanted to remove weight and keep the same standard GVM of 3030kg.
I like the idea of towing a 7x4 trailer with your camp gear.
That would be really handy for longer trips.

@@timbates4wdadventures i had to get the gvm upgraded under old ADR cert ,2008 , i dont carry much just the normal amout of gear ,seen so many getting busted for over weight mainly the v8 landcruiser mobs lol ,with all the gear and no idea hahahaha, you done a great neat job of the rear mate ,yeah trailer great ,can stay for 2 month off road without restocking for food and water ,that was stretching it ,had to find my limits , its a learning curve while having fun

Thanks for the video Tim. I appreciate it would have been some time ago now but just wondering if you recall having any issues removing the rear seats (2nd row)? I'm taking mine out but they seem to have a fixing rod that I can't get to, one in each seat located centrally at the back of the seat and fixed to the car floor. No, I didn’t have any problems getting the second row seats out.
Un bolted easy.
But, it’s fairly involved if you want to do it legally.
I have a video on my channel about what’s required to take seas out and stay legal.
My Patrol is now a signed off and Vic Roads registered 2 seater Patrol.

Little tip for the rear roof light, swap the old bulb with an LED equivalent and you'll get a ton more light and can even choose colours, and costs nothing.

The mesh cargo barrier needs a reinforcing frame as does the false floor with nothing underneath it.

Can you leave the seat belt buckles in the floor? I have 2 dogs that have harnesses that clip in to the buckle. You’ve given me some ideas for my Navara 👍🇦🇺

The ball weight of a caravan gets added to tow car. So, combined weight of the loaded 4wd and ball weight, needs to be under the GVM of the vehicle.

The seat belts are in the pillar cavity.
Very easy to get them back out should i want to put the seats back in one day.
This is all signed off and approved by Vic Roads.

What a nice, simple set up. Thanks for sharing. Do you run a second battery? I use my Patrol as my desert car here in the UAE. I’d been toying with the idea of taking out one of the rear seats (my daughter needs the other one). I decided against it - knowing my luck, the moment I took it out, I’d need to put it back in again! I could do with a cargo barrier and some decent tie down points in the back, this has given me some ideas.

The seats being out are very handy, but no so good if you still need them.

Looks to be a M10 or M12 eye bolt rated at 0.23 ton just make sure you get a big enough eye bolt for whatever you intend on hooking to it. Tim might want to chime in and correct me about the size if Im wrong.

I got those from Bunnings.
I think they are M10 bolts that screw in.
If you take one of your old bolts from the dickie seats.
Bunnings has a bolt hole size chart, that you can screw in the bolt to see what size thread you need.

Yeah, the weight reduction has made a massive difference to how the Patrol drives and handles.
I sure dont need all the high priced fancy gear. Simple is best.

Before i started removing anything. The Patrol weighed in at 3200kgs with both full tanks.
It went back on last week with two full fuel tanks and fridge in at 2920kgs. GVM is 3030kgs.
Massive weight drop.
Im going to talk more about this on Wednesday nights live .

@@timbates4wdadventures yep Tim , I'm in Warragul and have run my Y62 over the bridge quite a few times , I even run Wgul Nissans , S3 demo over before I decided to buy one a stock S3 or S4 with the 2 of us and a full tank is 3T , 1540 front axle , 1460 rear axle , there is a lot of Y62's towing big vans that would be well over weight , the Toyota 200 wouldn't be any better off .

Hi Tim, This looks really useful set up. I would like to disagree with you on the location of the oven. I think you run the risk of a projectile injury in the case of an accident. It looks too much like it’s at head height and only secured to an aluminium mesh. The travel buddy weighs about 6kg and I would hate to see this dislodge. Thank you for the post and please consider an oven relocation.

But, the guy that bought my sliders has a set of gen Nissan steps that i will modify

Thats where i got them from.
Bunnings in Warragul.
Take an old bolt with you and they should have a thread chart hanging near the bolts.
Then you can see what thread size they are.
Mine are M10 thread.

I've been to Bunnings, Mitre 10, several specialist bolt stores aboutI've even tried automotive stores.

M10 i think they are if you have the same car.

Nope, Failed on my quest to find these elusive eye bolts,
Bunnings, Warragul, like every other Bunnings have the m10 with a course 1.5 thread, my patrol (2002) has m10 fine 1.25 thread.
Yours didn’t go in easy then become tight very quickly?
I’ve solved the problem by using a m10 1.25 pitch stud (a bolt won’t fit through the eye) with a m12 eye nut
There are a number of posts on various forums that point me in the direction of race and rally shops (probably at half a million dollars for 2) to find the exact ones.
Either way it was nice to get out of town and go for a short drive.

As i mentioned i got mine at Warragul.
Mine screwed all the way in.
I took one of the original bolts with me and tried it in the test sheet they have hanging near the bolts. That way i got to right size bolts.

I haven't said it was new putting the fridge where it is. It's a lot better where it is now, from where it was before.
I know of a heap of 4WD's with the fridge mounted where i have put mine.
