I love the 429-460 lineup. Factory tall deck design 10.2" unlike chev bb at 9.8 deck height. I've never come across a 460 block that couldn't be bored .100" from the start and stroked to make 521ci. Chev BB do go .060" but be careful after that and go to 496ci, could be a bit more but again, be careful. BBF has a superior stronger bottom end over the BBC. Don't get me wrong I love my BBC's but the BBF is better. One thing against BBF is the cost to build.

The only problem with ford and dodge is the parts are more expensive than chevy, bib block ford's are usually machined to use chevy connecting rods, which are aftermarket parts and pistons use chevy wrist pins, mercy marine made a aluminum block four cylinder engine that had one factory cast iron 460 cylinder head on it, always wanted to see that engine built with a aluminum after market head and some performance mods
Nothing magical about the BBC rod journal sizes in a stroker kit... BBF's using BBC rods are typically 501 to 557 inch strokers, not stockish rebuilds, and as far as stroker kits go are about the same price as a BBC stroker kit. You have to change the pistons anyway for the longer crank / connecting rod. You don't change that with a 3.85" stroke stock crank and rods and there are plenty of pistons available for the stock 6.605 rod with a 1.040 pin. Hell, even Chevy boys go to Honda rod journal size 1.88" for roundy round small block mills.
The 460 head 4 cyl. Mercruiser was a factory engine with dozens sold. As for parts cost, there is very little difference in cost today. Even years ago, the 351C was cheaper, dollar per HP, than a SBC. Today, prices have come down due to less expensive manufacturing techniques and bundled kits as well as complete engine packages. Even building Chevys, the trick was to use Olds connecting rods, which are longer. For 302 Ford, we used 289 rods and custom pistons or modified 350 Chev pistons.
