I live in Aiken County and we have the same mess. I was one of the lucky ones and although I lost all my food my power was only out for five days. I then spent the next week having family over who had no power or water. My yard sustained some damage but nothing on my house. I am so grateful that I was pretty much spared. I spent the hurricane in southern South Carolina and had to drive my granddaughter to Columbia County the next morning. Detours took us through South Augusta ( my old stomping grounds). We shed so many tears just seeing the devastating results of Helene. The landscape is changed forever and sadly lives were lost. Your video is excellent. ❤

Hello. I deal with fuels for a very popular gas station here in Georgia. Let me give you a few “pointers “. As a fuel tech I am told by my director and managers at least 5 days before a storm/hurricane hits different steps to take. If we know a storm is coming we’re asked to make sure all fill cap and vapor caps are tight to avoid water intrusion in all tanks. In some cases delivery drivers fill up most tanks (87 and diesel) to 90% mark if possible before storm hits. 93 octane or premium, isn’t really topped off at a gas station unless that station sales a lot of it. Also the store managers will close early at least 10-12 hours prior to storm because they want the employees to go home early and be in a safe place. After the storm is over sometimes the stores can’t open up due to lack of employees (all employees even the delivery drivers) no power, or the store is close and not selling fuel because the ATG maybe showing a positive water reading in tank and further investigation needs to be done prior to selling fuel again to ensure no water is in any tanks and that no damage comes to customers vehicles. And sometimes that takes time. Especially if local workers can’t get to store to check the tank or if outside vendors that work for gas stations can’t get to site due to downed trees, roads and power lines.
@LivinginAugustaGeorgia no they was not affected, actually the morning after Hurricane Helene, I rode around Augusta, Evans and Aiken, SC, no gas, no power, and food truck lines were really long, so I started calling hotels around the surrounding area to see if they had power, gas and food and Lexington, SC was the closest to Augusta.
I hope that everyone learns from this experience and have some food, water, prescription medications, cash, etc., on hand so that they don't have to be in those long lines or go without in an emergency.
@@theratrace999 Yes, that would be the ideal situation. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this was an unprecedented event, something we have never experienced (like this) in this area.
