    I really enjoy watching your channel because I can fantasize about living in NYC. You provide the important information (transportation and laundry) while also mentioning what's good about the place.
    If I were younger, I'd definitely have on my agenda to live in NY somehow!! I'm probably past the age where it would make sense to uproot, leave family and set-up in NY, but it's fun to imagine. Maybe in another lifetime!
    I'm wondering how many other people are watching this channel who have no intention of moving to NY any time soon. It's like flipping through a high fashion magazine knowing you won't be buying the clothes. haha

      You must live inland and/or have bought your house decades ago since the average house in the coastal areas is around $1,000,000 for less square footage and around $2500 -$3000 for a one bedroom rental, depending on the area. California has 4 of the top 10 most expensive cities in the country for housing.

    I like your rating system. It is based on fact and not opinion which is fair. I can't get over the expense of NYC living. Based on your previous video of what is needed to rent an apartment I don't see how the average income earners can afford to live in Manhattan unless they take on a bunch of roommates or live in tiny little boxes. I agree with you though, the city holds a fascination to me that could never be rivaled. I live in Alberta Canada and years ago I was able to live on my own in a 1 bd apartment for a couple of years. I was young and had no savings, just check to check but I still had no problems with affordability. I guess I never realized just how lucky I was. Nowadays rents have gone crazy here too but not as high as Manhattan. I find myself looking forward to your video's. I love your approach and down to earth nature. Thank you very much.

    Interesting video thanks, I have to agree totally with your comment about some of the comments on here degrading New York City, proper, if you could afford it, which is probably a very high bar for most, I would take the city and live in a smaller place versus living in the suburbs also any day. Love living in a city and what it offers me as a human being compared to some very boring suburb where I basically feel lost and out of place.

More people can afford the other boroughs. $2,000 a week to live near every possible experience of art, music, food, books and lectures, parks, theater, --- people use their apartments as touchstones to experience the world around them, rather than as caves to spend as much time as possible.

    I enjoy your apartment tours. Regarding NYC…
    I visit the City about 4/5 times a year for concerts etc. One thing that annoys me more and more each year is all the scaffolding on the sidewalks. I wouldn’t mind if the building owners were doing repairs, but that’s rarely the case.
    They don’t have this problem in Chicago, or other cities with tall buildings.

    • @user-zk5rt3gb3e
      @user-zk5rt3gb3e Месяц назад

      Yes!! Why isn't anyone talking about the huge increase in scaffolding in NY?? What happened? It's ugly and really diminishes the feeling of being in the city. It's almost making it not as interesting to visit because if I want to walk under scaffolding ALL THE TIME I'm there, it starts to not be worth the $$.

  • @bernadinetinker3028

    What is the approximate cost of rental or condominium insurance for the type of units featured? Are storage rooms available within the building? How is trash/garbage maintained?

    • @hayley_bailiff
      @hayley_bailiff  12 дней назад

      All of these buildings are rentals, and rental insurance tends to be under $200 per year. Depends on how much you want covered.
      Most walk up buildings don't have storage units available but some high rises do for an additional fee.
      And for trash, it all depends on the building. High rises tend to have a trash chute room on each floor where you put your stuff. Walk ups often have a trash room in the basement for you to put your trash. Some walk ups don't have trash rooms though and tenants are expected to bring their trash out on trash night, and there are multiple trash nights a week. I have 3 trash nights each week. There is no size limit in NYC, you can even put furniture on the curb and they will take it.

    I lived in Manhattan (mostly West Village)from 1984 to 1999 and was working class the whole time. I needed a roommate but was able to swing it. Your ratings are very fair in general, but I disagree on the 4BR getting 4 stars for layout, what with that windowless LR. I guess the upside is, your roommates will ALWAYS be in their BRs, out of each other’s way !
    Owners could extend the LR thru the right front BR to its window, then carve out a small windowless BR from the left side of the LR area (from front door back to kitchen). Windowless roomie gets a break on rent !

      Pretty much the further from downtown Manhattan you get the more affordable the city becomes! Brooklyn/Queens right along the East River are pretty pricey, but if you go a few subway stops in you can pay significantly less. Upper Manhattan also tends to have much more affordable units, at least more affordable by NYC standards.
