  • Welcome to our Frieren: Beyond Journey's End reaction!
Frieren spends four years tutoring Fern while translating an ancient grimoire concerning immortality. Heiter collapses and can no longer walk. Fern declines to visit immediately, explaining that she must train continuously to become a mage before Heiter dies. She wants to show him this progress as thanks for his intervening in her planned suicide and adopting her. Frieren expedites her translation; the grimoire revealed nothing about life extension. Heiter admits that he used this prospect to ensure that Frieren would stay to tutor Fern. Fern finally masters an offensive spell, and Heiter dies. She joins Frieren in her travels to continue to learn. They use magic to easily complete mundane tasks for townspeople, especially in return for documents about magic. During a routine cleaning of a statue of Himmel the Hero, Frieren decides to decorate it with his favorite flower. The flower seems to have gone extinct in the region, and they spend six months searching for one. Fern is surprised and frustrated about Frieren's commitment to a seemingly minor cosmetic task. While reflecting about her motivation and friendship with Himmel, Frieren finds the live flower in a rodent's seed hoard, allowing her to conjure a field of them in his memory. Fern realizes it is important to have a passion, be it for magic or anything else.

Welcome to Denver Senpai Channel! A little side note, we gave a chance to DUB version for first 2 episodes, and decided to switch to SUB starting episode 3, just little heads up on that, thank you for watching!

The 2nd bottle poured on the grave is the one which Heiter had when he met Fern. Since that day he stopped drinking.

I am curious about the English dub of "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End." I feel that Frieren's voice doesn't quite fit the character. How is it being received by English-speaking audiences?

English obviously is not our first language but Frieren was possibly the main reason we decided to switch to sub eventually, the reason is the one you said, the voice just didn't fit right with the character

The VA has a great voice but just doesn't fit Frieren. To be honest, I can see her voicing Flamme and fitting that character well.

It's bad. Frieren is the worst offender, but honestly none of the character's voices feel right, and the translation of the dialogue is SO weird in places. Yes, the subtitle translation could have been cleaned up some for clarity, but this takes it WAY too far.
Frieren's English VA makes the same foolish mistake a lot of people do when they're supposed to be portraying a flat affect or emotional distance, and instead fills the performance with deadpan snark and exasperation. Himmel's VA, in my opinion, seems to cross the line from "gentle and soft-spoken" to "fruity and effeminate" with some frequency, too. I don't know if it's the cast's fault or the English VO Director's fault, but the English dub is just not good and the people who claim otherwise need to raise their standards from "is it better than other anime dubs, which are pretty universally terrible?" to "is it actually good?".
