At first I thought that the finding items spell is plot convenience. But in future episodes they introduce the idea of spells developed by people based on the environment they are dealing with. And then this spell made sense to me since the merchant is from village of traders. Its completely logical for them to develop such spell to find lost items they trade.
Also Frieren is soooo smug! She does not want to admit how important this ring is to her. But her face says it all :)

    • @Airwave2k2
      @Airwave2k2 3 месяца назад +4

The merchant runs an asseccary shop, so he has the need to find the right stuff and he is confronted often with customers, that have this problem. So yeah many miss that a tree of the magic, or better the underlying easy accessible one in Frieren is folk magic in itself where all the "silly spells" come out of necessity/"a strong desire" (also the pathway to a certain character) that are not "researched" / engineered human magic or demon magic or goddess magic. Clearly it is ex-machina (strongly so if you are only so far into the show and have bigger picture), and the strongest one but it fits in this world.

I think that scene is more about Frieren searching alone, trying to find a solution all by herself and the show is telling us to rely on other a bit more

I read several sources claiming that Madhouse animators hired actual dancing couple for the dance scene, which they to animate by hand.
Also Evan Call created specially for this scene the waltz.

I've seen a lot of people comment about this in other places, but the flower that represents love on Fern's bracelet that Stark gave her is a full bloom, while the ring Frieren got from Himmel is just a bud.

That's what this entire thing is all about - her discovering and understanding feelings, both her own and those of other people - especially Himmel. In an early episode you guys mentioned how you don't like romance and I've watched reaction after reaction of you loving this show, one of the greatest romances I've ever seen.

Ring on the left hand was imported to Japan. Also the idea of a western wedding, with white wedding dresses and tuxedos/suits vs the traditional Japanese wedding.

on the speculation of George "because they have mana..." Linie the demon girl with the axe said, she remembers and copies the movement of mana within someone as they fight, so while caster do have the "output" of mana, other living things do also have mana but purely "inward" so warriors enhance their strengh, dexterity and constitution, much like DnD to improve those stats... at least thats how i think of it :D
EDIT: it is most likely also the reason the natural mana output somewhat protects caster... while as stated priests are very resistent

"Mut" is the German cognate of the English "mood" and pronounced as such (just with a T instead of D). The contemporary meaning is "courage"/"bravery", though the "mood"-aspect still exists in many composita: "Hochmut" (-> haughty mood), "Übermut" (overconfidence), "Sanftmut" (soft/gentle mood/temper), ...

The discussion just moments before you guys change your mind is hilarious because we know what's coming up. George, learning that shipping is the thing to do for anime fans as well as a lot of fandom. Graham coming around to Sein in the few minutes into the video and seeing the value in him. Sein is great. Shipping Stark and Fern pretty much from the get go. Fern's such a tsundere... Let the comfy continue.
The world building is great here too with the holy magic and how it's different from those that are just mages. Yeah, having mana and resistance to curses is cool here. I think that Priests here are Clerics in this universe. The gesture that Himmel did in the last episode is just a very chivalrous way as we see with Stark and Fern. Love that Stark's mommy was fine eating cake and donuts.

14th episode just proved to me that Frieren is not an anime. It's live action show which just happens to be an anime!
1st - We have the ring shown in 2 previous episodes. We have the set up that its important but Frieren does not remember it.
2nd - The bell at the beginning of the episode. Foreshadowing what would happen while also starting the process of memory returning to Frieren.
3rd - The way the object finding spell is presented. An illuminating light on a dark sky just before dawn - like a memory coming back in ones' mind before its fully revealed.
4th - The big pay-off. The scene with the clock tower standing between Himmel and Frieren, symbolizing time. And the shadows behind the two of them representing how much of their life have passed.
5th - And to wrap things up a mirroring relationship between Fern/Stark and Himmel/Frieren. Fern's ring having a blossoming mirrored lotus symbolizing that her love with STark would happen. While Frieren's one a mirrored bulb lotus symbolizing that her love with Himmel would never do.
And to add to this we have the quote "I am used to losing things", not only referring to the ring but to people, the lyrics of the ED which is Frieren's letter to the ones she have lost throughout her life...
This level of story telling, set ups and pay-offs, the "show don't tell" way of crafting a story is not common for animes. It's common for real-live elite level shows like "Breaking Bad", "Game of thrones season 1-4", etc.

7:10 you may have forgotten, but in earlier episodes, the few times that Heiter pats Frierens head she says “Don’t pay my head”, so the fact that she chose to praise him by giving him head pats was kinda cute.

Episode 27 killed me in a good way. I can’t wait for them to see it. I get emo every time I watch that scene and the music elevates the moment. Evan’s Call “A Sunrise Worth Seeing” is beautiful. I should be use to it but it gets me every time! I do wish track was called “A Field of Flowers” instead tbh. You’ll understand later on.

at 31 i'm pretty much the same as when i was like 15, still hyped for the next pokemon game and for the next anime season i like, i didn't like going to school and now i don't like going to work, the only thing that changed is that now i can manage money to make a living and pay the bills.
That being said, the scene on ep14 is so good, and also a bit sad, Himmel didn't say anything, probably because didn't want to give Frieren even a harder time when he passed away, and the clock tower standing between them on that scene is symbolizing that Time is what always separated them. Really really incredible story telling and production.

George my dude, since you keep mentioning keywords like "warm" and "cozy", you guys need to watch Yuru Camp. If not the progenitor, it's the series that popularized a new anime genre called "iyashikei" where it's all about chillin', coziness, easy-bites, relaxing stories to warm your kokoro. Please try this anime out and let your hearts rest from all the loud, high-stakes shonen you two have been consuming lol.
