What do you think about washburn guitars that were not set up for non nylon strings but set up for slide guitar?

I suspect they are/were nice, but not my thing. Hawaiian lap? Slide is a mystery to me!

What sort of nylon strings do you put on that Washburn? I just came in to possession of one. The back is ladder braced. I’m planning to take it in to my Luthier, but I’m afraid to put steel strings on it.

I haven't changed out the ones it came with yet!! But I was going to try the Thomastik/John Pearse folk strings. I hope they aren't too high tension. If you think to do it, let me know what you find out from your luthier.

Is the 1897 etched into the wood?

If by etched you mean it looks like they used a stamp with a sharp boss to press the Model 1897 into the wood, then yes!

    Why not play it?

I do! Just not as often as I should. I wrote a song using it. You can listen to both here studio.ruclips.net/user/videoMrWkiL1RMOY/edit (I think).
