    I liked it.. Some people say "do you play Guitar" and there are those that Answer and are Guitar Players. IE- Its in Key of G or A or F# and they know exactly what you mean. I picked up guitar as a teen and play with it instead of playing it. Dont know anything about what key or note is being played and have no clue where or how chords are or played but can play things people will hear and name it. I have zero training or skill just an ear. I dont know how but I can find a place on the neck in two string combos using the top 2 all the way up the neck the next two all the way up the neck and the next two all the way up the neck and find cheat chords. Its not a Chord but its the same tone or position of a chord. I found this Video because IN my untrained mind I heard this tune in my head when I was picking strings and found it .. The Notes or tones of the Vocals and find each one by ear. Then I found this and of course what I play is NOTHING like this or those Complete chords and the picking of the strings is perfect and complicated as all get out. Not everyone is an accomplished player. Im 61 and say YES when asked can you play Guitar.

    Before you consider superglue (cyanoacrrylate) try a tiny drop on a part of the guitar that doesnt matter too much. Maccaferri guitars are made from styrene with copper and zinc powder mixed in to the mix. Styrene isnt the same as Polyplastic so im not too sure how it will react. I do know that superglue MELTS polystyrene. So please take care.

    Hey Jon, Your H174 was Harmony's best in 1961 They made only the H173 & H174 models from 1958 to 1966. 1957 was an odd year when they made the H173 ($59.50) and a H175 ($115.00) but that's not the H175 of later years. In 1961 the H174 was $85.00 and the blurb read: "Specially selected close-grained seasoned spruce top. Fan-rib construction for full resonance. Mahogany back and frame in rich brown polished finish. Mahogany neck. Spanish style Rosewood bridge. Inlaid soundhole. Top edge bound. 1967: H173, H174, H175 1968: H171, H173, H174, H175 1969: H171, H173, H175, H177 1970: H171, H173, H175, H177 1971: H171, H172, H175, H177 1972: All Gone You might think the H177 was Top of The Line but the H175 was. From 1967 to 1971 the H175 was $135. From 1969 to 1971 the H177 was $99.50 Beautiful guitars and they are getting hard to find. Possibly the most overlooked guitar of that period because of all the relabelling work of cheap guitars they did for Kay, Stella, Silvertone, Fender, etc. Nevertheless their high end in-house models sound and play great. I have several and would never part with them. I think the Harmony, Guild and Martin have held up the best from the 1960's, a testament to their builders.

    Jon - you're holding the Mystery Guitar! I've tried to find info on the "ghost" Harmony H-178 Classical Guitar but it doesn't exist - I've never seen one for sale or read any information on when it was made, what it's made of etc. Can you please post any information or links you have on the H-178. Is it actually stamped H178 on the inside and what's the date stamp? I have a H-177 which is a great guitar and would certainly like to find a H-178 for sale.

    • @jonpratt7948
      @jonpratt7948 Год назад

      Stamped 2094H178. I think I found another stamp when I had the neck off that allowed me to date it to 1961. It's a Classic guitar designed by "The Limeliters" that was made exclusively for the Vega Guitar Company, as a label on the inside proudly proclaims! I got it in dilapidated state when I seemed determined to collect everything Vega produced guitar wise. From what I gathered at the time, it's basically the same guitar that Harmony made for Baldwin that was originally favored by Jerry Reed and, quite obscurely, Willie Nelson. Baldwin, of course, added the nifty piezo pick up. Vega just added a sticker touting the Limeliters connection, probably hoping for some bounce from the folk boom of the early 60's. I did a video about all this.ruclips.net/video/8dGt9VEbV2Q/видео.html. The audio is pretty quiet, but if you turn it all the way up you can make out what I am yammering about. Not interested in selling, BTW.

      @@jonpratt7948 Sounds great. I have 3 Harmony Classical's H-173, H-175, H-177 and they all sound great. These 1960's Harmony guitars were great builds and really under appreciated. My H-177 sounds as good or better than my Martin 00-16C, it's certainly louder and fuller. You say in your other video that the Vega Limelighter was a H-174 and not a H-178? What does the label on your H-178 look like - pretty much like the H-174? I'll keep looking for a H-178; and probably another H-177.

    • @jonpratt7948
      @jonpratt7948 Год назад

      @@plparshall Sorry to confuse with my passing off conjecture for knowledge. My Vega Limeliter is an H-178, at least according to its label. I just don't see any difference between it and an H-174 (not that I've ever touched one of those), which I assume is the Harmony brand equivalent model. Builders often do special runs for other manufacturers. In my experience, the changes for the special runs are purely cosmetic. So, if you have your heart set on an H-178, I think the guitar you need to search for on Reverb, ebay, etc. is a Vega Limeliter.

      No experience with the D-26, although I have several Vegas (too many!). They were an affordable way for me to experience a variety of archtop guitars without completely breaking the bank. A quick internet search makes me think the D-26 is a single pup (Vega's Duo tron) archtop electric. Hard to tell if it will be carved or arched, but likely solid spruce top on maple rim and back. Radius of the fret boards may be a funky combination starting in Fender land at the nut, and expanding beyond Gibson as you work your way to the bridge. Have fun with the search! Trust me, it's almost always more fun than the actual ownership!

    The coolest thing about this performance is that you’re doing it in standard tuning and playing all the bar chords. In increasing numbers, I’ve seen people playing in the halfstep tuning. • @jonpratt7948
      @jonpratt7948 2 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words. I love the SA2000, and I agree it is a good match for "Lighting Crashes", although I rarely play with that kind of intensity myself these days. I enjoy it's clean sounds. A lot. But I perceive the pickups to be ever so slightly over wound. So that into the right amp, you could park yourself just on the edge of the beast, and control it all through touch. Super glad you enjoyed the performance. This is one of my better and obscure efforts as a songwriter (hell, all my efforts are obscure!)

    Excuse me, but - your “gnome”? That SA2000 is sweet. Although I’ve already got too many electric guitars to begin with, I keep imagining that this (or one like it) would make a great professional upgrade from my Epiphone Sheraton II. (I dig the wine red finish more than the sunburst.) Got to be a better value for the dollar than the Gibson equivalent it’s based on.

    • @jonpratt7948
      @jonpratt7948 2 года назад

      Really hard to say as to the value for buck. But a comparable Gibson would be a lot more expensive, so...likely. Part of me yearns for a fully hollow (I think it's the 330) with P90's...I love a Gibson neck. I've had an LP practically since birth, and I got very accustomed to its feel in my hand. So at some point, I will pony up for a Gibson again. Just not a 335. Already got that covered with the SA2000! GAS! It is so hard to control at my age.

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon 2 года назад

      You bet it’s the 330, @@jonpratt7948. One of the bands I currently play with rehearses in the home of a man who lets me play his 330 that belonged to his brother during practices. After they acquired Epiphone, Gibson essentially copied the Casino design and put a Gibson headstock w/ logo at the top end, and that was the 330. They are very rare, so I can imagine you would be pretty fortunate if you could find one and raise the money for it. I’m having a tough time controlling that syndrome myself, and I’m only 42. I’m always buying, selling and trading my guitars and not getting anywhere near generating a profit from them. It’s more about letting go of them to make away for what I want next than anything.
