    "men hitting strange objects in their back yards with medieval weaponry," gotta be one of my favorite youtube video genres

    This demonstrates quite clearly why 19th C stick masters recommend moulinets for stick blows. This was Great, Cheers! 🍻

      Yes you can see why such shots were so popular in La Canne and other arts.

    Even the first strike (lead Doyle) will end the fight right away. Great demo! Very interesting!

      It would require perfect placement which would be difficult in a fight but it certainly could.

      @@ramblingkernwould you consider this strike like a jab/stiff jab? It lacks the power of strikes with follow through but it still deal important damage to more fragile targets like the nose, the eyes, the cheek bones, the teeth or even the hands.

      @ramblingkern  Год назад

      @@dhalav generally the aim within the Doyle system is to get into a close range scenario so these are often used as a setup for that. They can still hurt for sure but don't have the power of other strikes.

    Those analogues seem like a great target. And confirms that I certainly don't want to take a strike from a shillelagh

      Yes I would be wary of any sort of hit from one.

    Might be interesting to compare the damage caused by different clubs, knobkerry, ball head etc.

    Great test. It's good to know that those techniques have practical results, and that we who practice the Irish stick know that we can do damage should the situation arise.

    Rambling kern it's about time someone came up with more accurate test medium I do love that war hammer I has a few medieval weapons including a spear like used in movie braveheart used as a dagger but mines pretty sharp I also train with bullwhip and numchuks and japanese sword live blade congrats on another exellent video 🇬🇧👍🇮🇹🐾🦊🍀

    Thanks for the video.
    I wonder whether all of the skull fracture strikes would have knocked out an opponent. In real life, doing the damage of a skull fracture is less important than getting a "stop" in the sense of making an attacker stop attacking.

    • @ramblingkern
      @ramblingkern  Год назад +1

      It's impossible to say due to the amount of factors that go into that. However these fractures could result in instant loss of movement or use of limbs if they caused a bleed on the brain which would also likely cause death. However with fractures like these if they were to happen to your ear canal or orbital the average person would not be able to continue.

    Interesting video, Nathan. Is there any wear on the shillelagh from the various tests you've done?

    • @ramblingkern
      @ramblingkern  Год назад +2

      I have not release the footage as it was not good quality but I tested it against bricks and that was the only wear it has taken which you can see a bit in the thumbnail. Otherwise it has held up amazingly.

    Interesting to see you use the "irish sabre grip" on a hammer! Be careful not do it on a benchpress though... doyle-esque habits can pop up in the weirdest places when you train enough!

    • @ramblingkern
      @ramblingkern  Год назад +2

      Haha great points it is in both of the styles I train so it's kind of become a habit with sticks. But I definitely won't risk it bench pressing haha.
