The reason why the ancient builders weren’t able to defeat the wither is because they forgot the combat system changed after the 1.9 update

Yea well
Consider this: When a mob dies near a Skulk Catalyst it spreads more skulk and ancient cities are covered in it. You could even say... a populations worth.
And the patches of skulk leading to the city are the remains of the dead builders and maybe even some dead wardens
Ooohh man
Or skulk could be a form of mold that festers from dead organisms, so yeah they could be the remains.

Mmmm. Sweet juicy lore
Anyone else gonna mention how the soul fire under the “portal” helps keep the biome contained since mojang made a feature where sculk can not spread past soul fire. coincidence? I think not!
Maybe the ancient builders used it to close the portal
Yeah, to prevent more wardens from coming, they tried to block it.
Which means that's the reason why the portal is not open anymore
@@rahemeenimran8583 that would also explain y the warden went through the portal
Not only is it incredibly strong but its also immune to fire (not sure if it's immune to soul fire tho)
Maybe the warden wasn't a failed experiment by the ancient builders but a conquering experiment from creatures on the other side (like precursors and kiju from Pacific rim)
The warden was sent through bc it can withstand this world and its death helps terraform this world into something more inhabitable for this unknown species
Nice also the only light sources are soul fire related objects
The "sirens" are probably goat horns being used as a signal, likely for whomever is on the other side of the door to pull the lever and open it up. The "Phantoms" are also probably the Wither, given the pitch and tone.
Before this video I thought those sirens were the warden but this actually makes a lot of sense cause they're new additions
This makes more sense, ngl.
If I recall correctly there's a chance for the Redstone experiments door underneath the portal to require a loud noise to be played in order for it to open for a moment. Could be related.
@just i c e Don't spam.
I don't know. To me, the 'Phantom sounds' sound a lot like walking or breaking soul sand to me.
You know, that would explain why End portal is positioned as it is. It's set so anything that comes from the other side falls down into lava to prevent another breach like the Warden.
I think that they would not actually just fall on lava. It all depends on the direction you enter it from and how much momentum you have, right?
Gotta disagree. We know the two things needed to make a portal are dense blocks (end portal blocks) and heat/energy. The lava was meant as a means of lighting it
though, the warden is immune to lava and fire damage
@@Sandra-zu4ff well they probably didnt research the warden and thought lava should do the trick

Trust me, it's basically gonna be the Deep End
Dang, it just shows us that even if the end was a bad place to be in, if the warden is that powerful, that new dimension must be extremely dangerous. If they went through the portal, it most definitely would have killed them.
Aye, they wouldn't have lasted a month, and even that's with a lot of preparation

@John Spoelder the whole video is proof that its a portal
@@ashenshield1712 Maybe 🤔. It brings to question did that world start off normal too and the sculk just evolved to create and summon an OP mob boss for protection or are there things worse in that world that the Warden needed to be that strong to fight against whatever it was summoned for?

To further the theory of the sculk being sentient, I noticed that if you listen close to the audio of breaking the sculk, you can almost hear a scream
Maybe the sculk is sentient because it's absorbed and torn apart souls mixed into a parasitic lifeform?
I agree with both of you
I think the Skulk is from another dimension where it's a hivemind. It got taken over into the Overworld while the portal is open and started to get experimented on so it started to act to protect itself and try to grow stronger which lead to the creation of the Warden as a last ditch effort to do that @@DoggosGames
This theory makes alot more sense when you consider that ruined Nether portals seem to have bits of the Nether seeping in around them, implying portals left open long enough will begin to transmutate the world around them into the world within (I imagine the reasons player portals dont is due to age/Mojang not wanting peoples builds ruined by such a thing)
Ehem, the ruined Nether portals, Bastion remnants and zombified Piglins is what left of Piglin-Village war from the new game Minecraft Legends
@@LukiKruki That doesnt exactly contradict my point that stuff can come out of the nether portal (and other portals) and corrupt the landscape, does it?
@@LukiKruki there's no way to definitively say which games are and aren't canon to the main Minecraft "lore" (If they even have a set story.) Likely none of it, as the games they make could all be considered spin-offs.
The definition of a spin off according to Merriam-Webster is, "something that is imitative or derivative of an earlier work, product, or establishment". These games, such as Legends and Dungeons are imitative in the sense that they replicate the art style, by using the same assets, and are derivative due to their origin being from Minecraft. Spin-off do normally take place in the same universe/world of the previous media, but can often be like marvel's "What if" in which they are a non-canon hypothetical event.
All that aside, the fact that dungeons uses mobs not in Minecraft means that there's an evident divide between the two. Similarly, the trailer for Legends uses several creatures not in Minecraft. For these games to be canon to whatever semblance of lore there is, things would need to be a lot more uniform
ngl this would be so cool as a toggleable option, kinda like terraria
It can also be that the reason the player portals doesn't do it is because the other world itself is not as powerful as it used to be
This would also explain the lava pool under a horizontal portal. They learned a vertical portal could let stuff out, a horizontal anything came out would go right into the lava, and not be able to escape.
But that thought process likely also got them trapped because they can’t walk back into a horizontal portal that they dropped down from, they couldn’t fly until they got their hands on dragon wings. Maybe that’s why they wanted the dragon wings?
Omg that's so genius
i don t quite get it, perhaps i m not imagining it right could you explain this more? i can t see how their shape changes anything

LMAO did they really? If no one has yet, I kinda want a modder to make a mod for 1.19 that gets you to the dimension the Warden is from.
Its interesting to think that the builders didn't escape to the end to escape the wither; but rather because the thing that killed it was coming for them too. It adds in an entire section of story in between the 2 main theories
A fun little detail or two: a warden at partial health is able to fight and defeat the wither without dying, and unlike every other mob that requires the skulk sensors to detect movement/vibrations, the moment the wither is being summoned, the warden immediately attacks, even when the wither has yet to move or even act (though it’s mere presence does set off the sensors)
idk about that, the few times I pit a Warden against a Wither it didn't go so hot for the Warden. But if it managed to get the Wither down to half health and keep it there so it would go melee then it was over for the Wither. Unless that happens, the Wither just kept flying right above the big guy bombarding it constantly till it died. It's mostly because the Warden waits to get angry enough before shooting the sonic booms.
Here's another point to make. Consider this: the most common animals and lifeforms in an ecosystem are plants and prey. It has to be this way due to the concept of entropy (as you've talked about in the past). If the warden came from another dimension and considering how easy it is to spread, it may suggest that the Skulk and the Warden are not near the top of whatever food chain exists on the other side, as well as how quickly the warden passed through. If the portal opening briefly was enough for the Warden to immediately cross through, it suggests that it's near the bottom of that world's food chain, hence why it was able to find the portal so easily. It didn't need to find it cause it's so prevalent in its world. If the Warden's native dimension becomes accessible, I expect to find a world that is far too dangerous for anyone, to survive, putting other dimensions like the Nether and the End to shame in terms of deadliness.
Excellent logic! I’m forced to hold back my hopes, however, until the devs reopen the possibility of another dimension.
Now if that happens, Minecraft’s gonna have a new final boss, and I personally do not wanna know what that might be.

Here's a small theory: something interesting is that when killed Iron Golems don't spread skulk, this confirms that they are robots without a soul (something kind of well documented already) and makes me speculate that perhaps the real reason they built iron golems wasn't protection against miscellaneous threats but specifically as foot soldiers to fight the spreading skulk, something big and bulky enough to be able to take on wardens and something that couldn't make the skulk worse. In Disc 5 when we hear those soldiers mark we hear their footsteps they are all human footsteps, not even a little of the iconic iron golem walk sounds can be heard (the metallic footsteps are without a doubt player armor) which indicates to me that Golems were not built until after the wither attack ruined their civilization, it also goes to show they never learned their lesson about playing with life which ties into the idea that their downfall was caused by not really knowing their own limits.

The lack of ambient sounds and creatures also suggest the Wither was a mass extinction killing off practically all wildlife.

It would be cool if we could go in that dimension, and we can explore the dimension and maybe even fight a new boss. I feel Minecraft is lacking on its bosses and mobs, maybe even we can have more added on to that dimension as the entities “warp” and evolve and we have to create new weapons to defeat them
Well I do hope they add a new dimension. There could be stuff coming from that portal if active anyway, just like zombified piglin come from active nether portals. But a sculk dimension with a boss fight themed around that would certainly help the game by setting another goal.

It's better to add the new dimension after some others mobs from the dimension. The lore of the dimension is huge ans epic, It would be cool if they add new one to explore also it would be really cool if they add more specialised weapons and armor

Maybe the two extra heads where supposed to represent the devil and angle on their shoulders? It would explain why they are smaller than the head in the middle.
I know this one's a little obvious, but I love the environment storytelling of the skulk. It only spreads when exposed to death, and the sheer quantity of it around the ancient cities suggests something truly tragic.
Oof I didn’t even make the connection til you mentioned it. Haunting.
Probably a lot of them is from the hostile mobs that tried to invade the ancient city while the builders were still there. Hence why there are no hostile mobs spawning today in deep dark biomes.
as they flee the desperate builders trigger shriekers which summon the warden which then kills any living being in its hearing range?, those that didn't escape now part of the city they created and the being they brought to this world
@@UltraAryan10 there is a reason why no one is living in the cities nowadays.
While I have been working on restoring an ancient city in Minecraft I noticed that skulk, if you look close enough at the texture, appears to have the souls of animals in it and it made me think that, along with how skill spreads, exp may be similar to soul remnant, and the warden may not be just a defence, but the way that skulk was able to cover a city leads me to believe that skill may be similar to a carnivorous plant, and the warden it's cool for gaining the exp it needs to spread
Tool*
apparently his story checks out. a warden can actually tank a wither's attack and finish it before the final explosion takes it with it,and since they're in a cave system the warden could actually reach the wither without being carpet bombed. if im taking this correctly then the warden not only defeated the wither, but as it was taken out by the wither's final explosion it dropped the sculk block, which would explain why after the warden defeated the wither it didn't stayed long enough to be considered a threat by the ancient builders, and how it brought the sculk block into the city in the first place
I’m confused because with what I’ve seen, the warden can’t defeat the wither as long as the wither is flying. The warden’s range attacks aren’t powerful enough and don’t occur often enough to take down the wither, it dies before the wither actually comes down in its second phase.

I don't think that the ancient builders fled to the end because of the Warden. The Warden is just too stationary for the ancient builders to ditch an entire dimension. If the shulk only grows when things die around it, then one could simply close off all access from the ancient cities and booyah! No more Warden. I think that some of the ancient builders built the end portal before the Warden killed the Wither. There is no implication that the ancient builders stuck together. We've seen the drowned civilization staying away from the rest, as well as the not-so-ambitious relatives of the ancient builders, the villagers. If the first experimental portal brought the nether, and the next brought the Warden, who the heck would be stupid enough to make a third portal? I think that the civilization that became the Endermen were completely oblivious of the Warden's existence. Those who tried to live in piece with the Warden either was the cause of more shulk being created via devoured souls or fled to the caverns which would have almost certainly killed them. This also still leaves the question of how the shulk got up to the broken nether portals. The Minecraft legends game will probably be stuffed to the brim with LOOORRREEE! as MatPat calls it. Another reason the builders might've stayed in the city: instead of there being one Wither, there are actually multiple, and if the Warden was shown to be able to kill one of the Withers, then the Ancient Builders would have wanted to stay near something that could kill their most dangerous enemy. They laid down candles to help see in the darkness effect, they laid down carpets as to not alert the Warden, but the longer they stayed down in the Ancient Cities, the more sculk was made from the slaying of mobs and the natural deaths of the citizens. One small thing I would like to add to this theory is an idea I heard that the pillagers found the Ancient Cities before the player did. We can see Dark Oak wood bridges and outposts which stand out from the rest of the city but is a staple of pillager outposts and woodland mansions. The carpet that lines some of the Dark Oak Bridges is also a distinct purple compared to the grey wool as the pillagers likely had an encounter with the Warden or at least understood why they had to keep quiet. The small outposts that line the cities were small bases for the pillagers to make camp and we can even find piles of wool similar to those found in woodland mansions lying around the city. Judging by the fact that the outpost’s chest still have loot, however, it’s clear that despite their attempts, the pillagers didn’t make it out alive. Like I said, this wasn’t my theory but just something I heard although it does make the world feel a bit more lived in as the player isn’t the only one to explore the ancient ruins left by the builders.
you have a solid point!! its not like the wool found in the ancient city, it looks like these structures were build long after the city was in shambles, none of the dark oak bridges and outpost have any skulk on them, they dont look nearly as destroyed as the ancient city itself, they just seem out of place in the entire city, all tho i do feel like the pillagers did make it out alive as none of their loot can be found anywhere in the ancient city chest, they prob build these outpost and bases to start on their raid in the city, but had to cancel and evacuate quickly for...obvious reasons

@weibo coiu the game has no real lore tho
Here me out: what if Steve has an echo shard inside of him? We know the builders were desperate to prolong their survival as a species. We know that they performed experiments with death and used the skulks weird post death properties to craft things like recovery compasses which stay in your inventory when you respawn and point you to your place of death. We also know that with the wither and now the warden there were 2 looming threats to this species.
So what if, In the last few days of the builder civilization, they created the player by embedding an echo shard into one of their own and using its death bending properties to allow that builder to respawn infinitely ensuring even death can’t truly stop them.
Maybe this ties into the illagers, maybe the illagers saw this process somehow and tried to recreate that series of events. since illagers can’t reproduce this ability to ignore death would’ve been very valuable to their kind. But their inferior science and lack of access to the deep dark caused them to mess it up. Maybe they used lapis instead of echo shards cause hey both are bluish lookin crystals they have to be interchangeable right?
I just want to mention something similar about the illagers. Matpat theorized that illagers try to replicate things and accidentally make things. Allays are literally prisoners in the dark forest mansions. They also look quite similar to vexes. What if illagers we're using allays to create or accidentally create vexes?
I think echo shards are corrupted form of amethyst shard, cause you can get both from Ancient City loot chests.
That my friend, is a great theory

@Fezerved [Best videos] Most likely a bot, but wtf is up with these comments? They’re all over Jacksepticeyes videos, and now here?
here’s an idea: the end portal was made to escape the Warden/Skulk. They accidentally let the Warden into their world and were terrified to not only find an entity that could kill the Wither but also spread and grow. Maybe they used the souls from the skulk to create the end portal frames -hence the very similar colors. Maybe the labs under the City Center were made to create conditions where they could try and create these frames away from the threat of the Warden. Just a theory based on the color palettes :)
That's exactly what the video says
End portal frames are the same colors as ender pearls and endstone 😢
Hypothesis: The two entities that converse in the credits after you defeat the ender dragon are two ancient builders that have ascended to a godlike paragon ultimately achieving the goal the ancient builders sought after, immortality.

I think how they went from the Ancient City to the End is pretty obvious. Some Ancient Cities just got completely destroyed, some went the way you described, & some strongholds got created without the knowledge of the Ancient Cities. It's interchangeable.
Strongholds, Ancient Cities, Trail Ruins, and modern Villages and Pillager Outposts + Woodland mansions. This game has so much lore. Not to mention we honestly don’t know who built the Nether fortresses cuz its certainly not the Piglins cuz they already got Bastions
Lore theory: The deep dark is a different dimension the ancient builders opened up using the giant nether portal looking structure in every ancient city, this explains how the city’s are destroyed and why skulk is only in these areas as if it is bleeding into our world. When the builders found out there mistake they quickly decided to try again. This action lead to the creation of strongholds and the end. Proof that dimensions bleed into the over world is when you find ruined nether portals. These small structures have nether rack around them suggesting that they are also spreading. :)

notice how they use very strong blocks to make their portals. The portals only work with stronger blocks. maybe this means that any attempts to use weaker blocks have backfired and resulted in the portal imploding or something; leaving builders trapped in other worlds. and they also continue to use stronger and stronger blocks. the obsidian was natural, but the rest they made themselves- that's how the deepslate got reinforced and how the end portal was made despite the blocks being unmovable. once they found that obsidian, the strongest natural block besides bedrock (a block they can't move and therefore can't use), could be used to make a stable portal, they proceeded to make even stronger blocks to make new portals. the only problem is they couldn't all be lit the same way. the lighting methods were somehow related to the dimensions the portal led to (fire for the Nether and ender eyes for the end). The ancient city portal to the skulk world was somehow lit using souls of the deceased, possibly VIA soul fire, to light the portal in an ancient technique we are no longer in position of.

Also what if the guy with the cough has wither sickness from the wither and also why the disc is mixed up is your piecing it together.
Regarding the "monster" at 10:37 - that's the sound of an Endersent, a larger and stronger type of Enderman from Minecraft Dungeons tasked with guarding the eyes of ender required (in that game) to access the End. Going by the ideas presented in this theory, this can even explain the new enchantment in the wild update, speed sneak i think it was, as the ancient builders who stayed in the Deep Dark cities developed, or rather conjured up a new enchantment to help them live with the Warden, but it was probably too late by then, and they only got a few enchantments out to everyone who needed them, maybe they even destroyed each other for this enchantment, maybe they fought amongst themselves so much they ran out of food, allowing the Warden to easily finish the job…

I see this as an extension to the wool. They tried placing carpet and wool to dampen their steps but even placing the blocks triggered the sculk. So they developed an enchantment but it didn't help with their chests triggering the sculk.

Remember this: skulk spreads wheb something dies near it. So when the warden came through, there barely any skulk and maybe even no skulk sensors or catalysts. theory: years after this the illagers found the ancient cities built outpost looking structures, rebuilt some broken parts of the cities with dark oak (which only appears in illager related places), possibly studied the skulk which is how they made the vex, allay and totems as well as bringing some of their steve colored wool because of the its sound resistant properties.
I was thinking the same idea
considering we kinda know that Illagers have this thing for playing with souls, yeah they might have done some antics with those skulk blocks that are made from souls, and even may contain souls.
But it’s just a theory,a GAME THEORY!
I'm still laughing about that one guy in this comments that gives a theory that the pillagers was the ancient builder's! 🤣🤣🤣
The dark oak wood and the colored wool makes me believe that illagers found the ancient cities at some point. Those blocks are the same used in mansions and pillager outposts, even the building style is similar and they don’t seem to fit in the ancient cities.
The wool is the same color as Steve's and zombies clothes and piles of it can also be found lying around in mansions… so maybe the warden has something to do with that theory?
Yeah perhaps the illagers found the ancient cities while they were patrolling, and it could also mean that they took some for the evoker who has things with magic to observe it, mainly the sculk and catalyst, and with the allay and the souls in them the vex is born
It would explain why the Illagers are so obsessed with carpet to the point of storing stockpiles.
The sound trap can also be seen as a trap for Pillager raids.
I think this makes sense. The dark wood and blue carpet clearly don't fit the original aesthetic and look more like a later addition by Illager expeditions.
Or perhaps this is when the split that matpat theorized in the Illiger episodes. Some anchoring builders left for the end, some got banished for trying to harness the soul technology to resurrect the dead.

I rather imagine that the ancient builders got divided: Builders went into the end and became the endermen, the ones who preferred staying in the overworld under the ground got either destroyed by the warden and became skulks, either joined the builders in the end.
Some factions probably chose to stay in the overworld, and fell into a sort of "dark ages" where the lost their connection to their past. Have you seen the bedrock wither
1. There might have been multiple withers, not to mention the undead plague, and the fact the wither can be quite scary,
2. It's not weird, it spreads by killing, the warden defends it and helps it spread,
3. Doubt the skulk had a predator, if it did then where exactly IS it.
Maybe they used something exclusive to enhance that first wither
What makes sense, is that not all the ancient builders didn't go through the end portal. Maybe when the others that stayed behind, realized that the ones who left won't come back. So the remaining builders closed the end portal, which explains why we find it closed when we discover it.
The City Center is a portal that's another attempt for the remaining builders to escape. The idea that The Warden is the guard to the sculk wouldn't be far fetched, but we'd have to wait and see what will happen in the future.
