Also, just placing it on top and not even leaving enough time to react nor massaging it, makes no sense. It's like comparing a dirty carpet, which is 10 years old, to a new one with just some dry dirt on top... Clearly the 10 years old needs a deeper clean, the dry dirt will stay on top in the new one, doesn't mean the company making the AD cleans it better, it's just that fact.
Baking soda is not a good Idea to vacuum up. Particle size is too small to be filtered properly. Id suggest using a dry cleaning upholstery powder which is designed to deodorize and be filtered correctly to prevent vacuum cleaner damage. Great work overall though.

Meanwhile, I just tore down one Vacuum and cleaned Rollers and am about to do the same thing to my old faithful I’ve babied the last several years. Skip getting A Shark gang. It was A very short investment. I hear real crummy comments by the few that have had my Dyson on there but this old gal, A DC 28 has to be really close to 25-20 years old. It’s been A Beast for all of the animals I’ve had over the years. Again, thanks for the useful tips and I too am really enjoying the cleaning, and scrubbing sounds instead of talking or extremely annoying music. Unless there is suction, all you're doing is pushing the dirt deeper into the mattress. It's not vuaible anymore because it's underneath the top layer. Use a carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment (boiling water for the steam cleaner/disinfectant part) to get a true clean.

Did you extract the mattress at some point? If not, then the hair, body oils, dust, allergens and skin cells are all smelling fantastic. You have to vacuum and extract to get a lot of the nasty out of the fabric successfully.
Courageous are those who don't use mattress protector or waterproof mattress protector in their mattress specially I they have kids. It buggs my mind. This is 2024. I tried to wash my mattress and water came clean. Before I buy a mattress I make sure I have mattress protector before the mattress arrives. The same goes for pillows. I'll be in shock just Watchhing mattress cleaning videos and the mattress cleaning machine, you can do the same with vacuum and carpet upholstery washer.
WoW! putting matresses on a unhygenic carpet where people walk...etc... very smart. She would not have any of these problems if she put a waterproof sheet under the top sheet... and and a regular under sheet matress protector for adults... + if people showered before bed... you know to remove all of the days pollutions, sweat etc that the body picks up and to relax for a better sleep... then tge matresses wont be so infested dirty.
Mama why don't you have mattress protectors on? They should be on all mattresses and on all pillows. I'm not judging, I promise. It will save you so much time. They are waterproof, quiet and aren't made of plastic anymore. And they extend the life of your mattress and pillows. It is said that your mattress is completely FULL of dead skin cells and microscopic bugs from our bodies within 3 years.... and our pillows even sooner. Once I heard that my butt RAN out and got the best protectors I could find. No really, I got them on Amazon for next day delivery and they're fantastic! They last a few years and I'll never sleep without one again! And they're anywhere from $15-$80. And the pillow protectors I got 2 for $20. I just bought my daughter some. I definitely recommend.
Baking soda + cyclonic vacuum = short life. Baking soda is so fine that some of it may pass the pre-motor filter if not H13 rated (which is hard to find), and that can quickly ruin the bearings. Just be careful!

Tip for when your kids grow up : layer several mattress protector and fitted sheet. Like that you just take of one layer of mattress protector and fitted sheet at night, way easier, depending of the age they can even take them off themselves. And if they are in a bunk bed it's easier to put 3-4 layers at a time.

Especially waterproof if its for kids. Just upgraded my kids bed and after 4 years the old mattress looks brand new because of the protector we had.
