      @@damaristaydevelezgomez4776 in the books Lily had green eyes. They initially had Daniel Radcliffe wear contact lenses that changed his eye color, but he couldn’t tolerate the contact lenses because they’d irritate his eyes. In the films they tried resolving this by just saying “you have your mother’s eyes” without mentioning color. For young Lily having brown eyes, I guess they thought the flashbacks were so brief it wouldn’t be too noticeable but I’m not certain.

      I actually thought there was always something fishy about him killing Dumbledore. The way he had been built as a character, being very mysterious, having a name that seems evil from the start, and being someone that all the signs will say to hate, yet sprinkled with acts of kindness THAG leave us confused, such as the numerous times he saved Harry. Simply making him a bad guy would’ve wasted the potential of the character that ended up being born, and I had faith Rowling wouldn’t let that happen. Though I must admit, I never could have imagined such a drastic turn around, and one that involved his entire life. Easily my favorite character.

      @@smellyfeet11 Lily's patronus is a doe, and Snape's patronus also was a doe because he truly lived Lily so much. And it hasn't changed. So when Dumbledore asks, "After all this time?" He means "you still love Lily, after all this time?" At the making of that memory, it had been a couple of years since Lily had died and many more since she and James had married. But Snape never let go. And that is why Dumbledore is surprised, at love's potential and at the best side of Snape, the unwavering love and selflessness. And Snape loved her to his last breath, answering "Always."

      @blackeyedlily Год назад +5

      For those people who always had problems with Snape because he was a bully to the students, had been a death eater and is viewed by some as more obsessed with Lily than in love with her, I think that the books are sprinkled with bits of information that give lots of clues into his character and understanding of some of the bad decisions he made. It is pretty apparent that Snape’s family life was very unhappy. His muggle father appeared to be abusive from the glimpses we get. And other muggle children in his community, like Petunia, treated him badly because his poverty resulted in his odd dress and appearance. When you combine this with the fact that he was an extremely smart, bookish boy who appeared to also be a loner, you can see why he would be a prime target for recruitment by a group like the Death Eaters. There are plenty of real life parallels to such things, taking away the magical element of course. At one point in the books Harry referred to himself, Snape and Voldemort as the Lost Boys who found a home at Hogwarts. When Dumbledore brought Snape onto the teaching staff at Hogwarts Snape was still very young. In fact, he was only a couple of years out of being a Hogwarts student himself. And we know that Snape had been bullied as a student at Hogwarts. Now he was in a position of authority. And it is highly unlikely that he had experienced much social development of his own in the meantime. For all these reasons, I think it is easy to see why Snape became a bully as a teacher. You would hope that people who are bullied would avoid doing the same thing to other people. But unfortunately, we know that people who are bullied often become the next set of bullies. This is not trying to excuse Snape’s behavior toward the students he was teaching. But it is a way to understand why he would behave this way. As far as whether Snape’s feelings for Lily fall into the category of love or obsession, I don’t think it really makes a big difference in the end. Either way he risked life and limb, and put himself into danger, over and over in order to fulfill the vow he made to Dumbledore to protect Lily’s son. Snape was in the end a very flawed man who was also a hero and one of the best literary characters I have ever had the pleasure to encounter in a story. He was my favorite character in the entire series from the moment we heard that wonderful monologue in Harry’s first potions class. And to Harry he was the bravest man he ever knew.

      To add to this, the reason Snape is my favourite person in Harry Potter is because of how intelligent he is. Throughout the entire series, he is the one man who was on both the dark and light side, while hiding his true commitment to the light the entire time. It was Snape who gained the trust of one of the most evil & powerful wizards of all time, and even then Dumbledore still dies even with Snape's help, the fact that Snape had to maintain through 19 years this level of composure makes him soooo badass to me. Not to mention he looks like Owen Wilson and Keanu Reeves combined 😂

Today, after rewatching it all over again, I'm an absolute fan, I give this franchise a standing ovation as one of the most genius masterpieces ever made! My biggest wish is that they produce more things from the Harry Potter universe in the format that we currently consume. I know they made the Grindelwald movies but I believe there are much more interesting things to explore in this world. A well-produced series on some online subscription service about Snape's youth, Lilly Potter, is my dream.

    The hardest part about this scene is that we learn what Snape really means when he says Harry has his mother’s eyes. It’s not how they look, it’s how they see others. Harry and his mother both saw the good in people and would never hurt a fly intentionally, they’re both incredibly kind people and see others as if there is always good inside of them, they don’t judge, they don’t hate, they’re genuine loving eyes that want the best for those around them. It’s a heartbreaking moment to see, especially Snape and Lily as kids and how tragic that story was…

They override the drinker's judgement, making them consent to a relationship, however brief it is, that they probably wouldn't want under their own volition. Snape likely knew that Voldemort, himself, was conceived via a love potion, as well as the problems that this caused. He couldn't make himself do that to Lily, however much he might've been tempted. @@jcdenton6577 You're right, it's not based on true events, it's actually based on a book series where Snape is infinitely more cruel and unpleasant than he's ever depicted in the films. Snape was a complex character, he was brave and he was clever, but he was by no means a "good guy". Snape was perfectly happy to serve the dark side until Lily, a childhood crush, was in danger. He then proceeded to terrorise her son, as well as the rest of the non-Slytherin students for years and years. Snape lavished at the idea of Sirius receiving the dementor's kiss. And even during this memeory sequence in the books, he scavenges through Sirius (now Harry's) house to find a letter and photo from Lily, including a photo of Lily, James, and Harry, and he tears off the part with Lily and the end of the letter where she states her love, and leaves the house in a mess. Snape is a creep; he was _obsessed_ with Lily. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks Snapes love, while genuine, is in anyway healthy.

We were still waiting for 7 to come out and I took my stand for Snape. I KNEW he was good. Of course, everyone else told me I was crazy, he is the most evil, we hate him, etc. There are little Easter eggs like the one you mentioned sprinkled throughout. Easy to miss. From the troll attack, to the cursing of his broom, to the unbreakable vow, to the murder of dumbledore, there was never a moment where one would stop and think “wait, is there a higher motivation for all this?” Then you see this moment. But snape repeatedly asked Voldemort to let him go find Harry and bring Harry to him.
      Snape remembered Dumbledore advicing him to tell Harry that Harry had to die because of being a horcrux himself , when and only when there comes a time when Voldemort fears for nagini. Snape wanted to go find Harry and tell him so.
      Then Voldemort mentioned elder wand and Snape killing Dumbledore and Snape understood what Voldemort was planning to do to master elder wand. Then only Snape knew that Voldemort intended to kill him , that he won't be able to find Harry and that Dumbledore was the previous master of elder wand and Dumbledore had other plans about elder wand's ownership when he asked Snape to kill him.
      Dumbledore didn't thought Voldemort would find elder wand . He simply wanted the owner to die so as to prevent the succession of mastering the wand.
      Snape realised that Dumbledore hid this piece of information from him before he was asked to make the promise about murdering Dumbledore.
      Snape looked away from nagini only when he realised this. He was following Dumbledore's instructions to the dot .

    I know that most people think that this is Snape’s ”the moment” when we learn all of his motivations and etc. but I always saw this as “Dumbledore moment”. I mean Snape’s kinda right, Dumbledore kept Harry alive only so that he could die at the right moment (and most likely he didn’t even know that Harry could come back from the dead). And when Snape shocked (pretty appropriate reaction if you ask me) accuses Dumbledore of raising Harry like a pig to slaughter Dumbledore doesn’t show remorse. No, he looks at Snape and ironically asks ”Have you grown to care for the boy?”... For me that was the moment when we saw in Harry Potter the younger, manipulative side of Dumbledore that fascinates me so much. ‘Cause he was really ready to send Harry to death “FOR THE GREATER GOOD”

      I know he is manipulative. But to blame him for doing literally the only thing that would stop Voldemort is a bit hypocritical. Literally nothing else could have been done. If he did not do exactly this, Voldemort would have remained immortal. And literally billions would have been enslaved or slaughtered. Yes he is manipulative. But he needed to make that decision. And he could not tell a soul of it. Doom an innocent boy to death, and groom him into a self sacrificing reckless hero. So that he could do what must be done. So that he would. Dumbledore is not an evil person. He is manipulative and he likes power. He was the most powerful wizard alive, arguably. And for all that power and knowledge, the only thing he could do. Is destroy the life of another young person. Imagine that situation. Almost revered as a god. Powerless to do anything. It's easy to judge when you don't have to make the hard decisions.
