To check the oil level, put the Volvo in start level 2: long press (2-3 seconds) on the start button with the key in the ignition (don't touch the break pedal) From there, you can access the Oil menu (level detection in 5 seconds). If you briefly press the start button (1 second), you put the car in level 1 and you can not read the oil level. My XC60 from 2015 has 125.000 miles and I have no problem. It's like a new car (I just need to change suspension for more comfort but for the security it's still good). With a full tank of diesel, I can cover 800 miles (70 l, 18.5 gal US).
We have a 2016 T6 Turbo as well and absolutely love it. It has 85K and has never used any oil and still runs like new. So far, it has been the best car we have ever owned. I don't know why you have to wait 2 hours to check your oil though because I can check mine anytime after stopping the engine. I typically wait about 15 minutes to allow the oil to drain down though. Checking it is pretty easy once you get used to how to do it. Yeah, I would prefer the dip stick, but not having that is not a deal breaker for me, just an annoyance.
I was so close to buying a 2016 XC60 T5! RepairPal said nothing at all about oil consumption on these cars. You were the first person I found, and a little research shows it's a huge problem! I will move on to a different car. Thank you!!!
On this engine for Volvo XC60 (for certain VIN’s … check with your dealership) they have recognized an Oil Consumption problem. Just take it to dealer for an oil consumption test that they do free of charge. If it’s bad then they will fix or replace the engine. Good Luck!
We have a 2016 XC 60 with 72,000 miles T5 w/ oil dipstick. Started to burn oil although oil has been change around every 5k. Volvo fixed the oil consumption issue by changing rings for free and gave warranty with work. So far no problem. Same issue with cracked shifter and oxidation of headlights. Overall car is extremely dependable except for a few sensors.
Car makers decided to put looser rings on the engines pistons in order to get less friction which means better fuel mileage. The unintended result is oil consumption...oil slipping past the rings and being burned in the combustion chamber. Another problem is carbon build up on the looser rings that breaks the seal of the rings, so more oil consumption. The are some treatment than improve or even correct the problem. If not, an engine rebuild with updated piston or a new engine are the only solutions. Buying a used engine will most likely give you the same problem. * That extended mileage between oil changes definitely contributed to the oil consumption. 5000 miles max. Also, don't forget to change tranny fluid max 50k. BTW: Volvo engines used to go 300, 400, 500k. These 4 cyl Volvos will be lucky to make 200k, especially with turbos. Small engines like these just can't take the pressure over the long haul. Good video👍
The oil burning issue likely caused by piston rings being the garbage ones volvo had in their VEA engines from 2014 to mid 2016. This can sometimes be cured by using some engine cleaner you put in the tank and then using thinner oil so it passes through the piston rings instead of burning it.
Nicely done. I read an auto review that stated that when German automotive engineers look at designing a component or system they always choose the most complex solution, perhaps to demonstrate their engineering prowess; I don't know if that's true, but sometimes it appears that other manufacturers have the same philosophy. It makes absolutely no sense to replace a simple oil dipstick with a complex system like the one you describe. The AC issue is NOT a minor issue if you live in the Southwest, or the deep South U.S.. The headrest folding option you mentioned should be called the "dope-slap" option. Panoramic sunroofs may seem "cool", but the fact is most owners of cars so equipped, including us, rarely use them, and they are an entry point for water intrusion, especially if the drains clog. I just read the Consumer Reports review of this model, and, oddly, they stated that model does NOT have a Blind Spot Warning System. Go figure, Clark.
Nice video. My experience with 2015 model it is pretty good beside the oil consumption. I purchased the car form a local dealer, and i was lucky enough to split the cost to fix the problem. The funded out one Cylinder was leaking oil. basically now i have new pistons and rings. Bad Volvo's design and on top of this they recommend change oil every 10,000 Mls. Regarding the electronic Oil Level i think it is a good idea, because the System check the oil level basically every time you turn the engine On. I change oil by myself ad i don't see the difficult on it. Drain the old replace the filter, ( easy to find) and them you add the quantity recommended 5.8Qt.
I really liked your review of this vehicle. I have a 2012 xc60 3.2 6Cyl. FWD. 159k mi. This is my 1st. I love the comfort as well as the interior. I must say, the ride for a vehicle of a "Luxury Vehicle Class" is rough. I can feel the smallest cracks in the road. Also, there is a weird Left hand turn accelerator pause or no response while in the turn. I also have experienced the oil burn you talk about however, I've only had the vehicle for 1 year. This vehicle does have a dipstick for the oil, I have also had to add a quart occasionally. It is a nice looking vehicle and does have great safety ratings. Overall, I feel the performance and some transmission oddities may have me selling this vehicle soon as well.
Did you have the PCV valve checked? I've been researching a bit on these, and it seems to be a common enough problem that can lead to that issue. Not the biggest deal to fix either.
Had two C30 and currently xc60 2015.5 3L. I'm lucky these were perfect and made me fan of this brand. It's sad to see how the change of ownership's affecting it. It's actually painful to see. The only hope it'll improve in the future. But honestly I'd be in alot of troubles if I'd be looking for a car in 5 years or so.
I’m not too knowledgeable about the others aside from what i’ve read online, I believe the T6 isn’t the best as far as reliability though. 5 cylinder seems to be the better option actually
I have 2010 XC70 with 5 cil in line.Samething .I got it at 10 000 mil on it was just 1 year old .From the beginning was burning oil.I got friends in Europe they are telling me samething. But mine got a stick.Weekle I just cck it!!
@@AmrinDosanjh I recently purchased a 2017 XC60 T6 R design Platinum AWD and purchased an extended 3 year/36,000 mile warranty and should I encounter that oil issue the engine will be replaced with a new one. My Volvo only has 50,000 miles and I refuse to let the engine go 10,000 miles before an oil change. I change the oil at 3,000 miles and always use Prolong Super Lubricants plus 2 oz of auto transmission shudder fixx in the oil to keep the engine and piston rings clean. I have to agree I’m not happy that there’s no oil dipstick but every 3,000 miles (mostly highway since I’m nursing my elderly parents) tells me how much oil comes out. Another 1,500 miles for an oil change (I do myself) to see if my engine (twin engine-supercharged and turbocharged) uses any oil. I’m in love overall with the lowered ground effects, it’s super fast and very comfortable. It’s a 2017 so I forgive the ergonomics for that time period. There are certified videos that show the first generation P3 chassis like your mothers explaining how the piston and first piston oil ring were designed. I believe the You tuber is Volvoguy. He’s a certified VOLVO mechanic and shares a lot about the XC60.
@@AmrinDosanjh Good to know this. I was thinking to buy either a used 2016 XC60 or a used Lexus RX350 to use as my daily. A risk to buy the XC60 unless records show the previous owner had this done under the warranty period.
If your car is burning oil you should propably complain to volvo, i'm in Brazil and they exchanged the whole motor on warranty on a t5 r design 2016 no charges.
You are doing it all wrong. Its so sad... if you had go to te dealership and yust asked, how do I check my oil level. And what do you need to do is 0w20 oil...
Chevy trucks go for 7500 oil changes as well as Toyota Highlanders. 10000 oil changes on a luxury vehicle doesn’t seem out of place. How much were oil changes at dealership? Did your mom complain about oil burning issue?

One of the best reviews of a XC60 because he gives a hands on experience. Other motoring reviews are not as good. Well done.

The service on this car is not just changing oil and filter . If you follow the service schedule its wont burn any oil .
Thanks. I almost bought one of these. I couldn't really afford it, so I'm glad I didn't. NOT cheap cars to own.
Volvo fixes that for free up to 100k miles. And it makes you wait 2 hours for the engine to cool. Not supposed to measure the oil level when it’s hot.
With that model only sensible model is 2.0 L with fwd . Fast and super economic
Very helpful review. Thanks a lot ❤

I just checked the dipstick on a 2015 xc60 3.0 t6 at a dealer today, did they remove it in 2016?
Did you replace the oil every 3 k miles with Volvo oil and filter ? .
It's not 100%, if it changed every 6 miles it wouldn't use oil, if it did it would be something very small

There was a service bulletin where VOLVO either replaced the engine or upgraded the pistons and oil rings.
From what I read unfortunately this was only for cars in warranty, but mine was not :(

What is your oil change intervals
I just re-watched this vid and he said he personally does his at 5k miles. I do my own oil changes at 5k with no issues.

Volvo xc60 2.0diesel 181 hp take oil as well every 1500kilometers like 250ml

17 plate 2l petrol v40 no oli use after 5k
2 hours is cap, 10-15mins is enough

No, Depends on where you are buying it, my XC60 was made in Belgium.
Damn you're picky
Sounds like improper maintenance procedures. I have almost 100k miles on mine and she’s happy as a clam
