This country needs to start removing every single judge that grants "parole" after 15 years for murder.
The law often requires it if the killer is a minor or if they cooperated with the investigation. The one getting off easiest is probably Rachel Shoaf, who will likely be paroled in May 2028. Her cohort Shelia Eddy has apparently alarmed the mental health professionals who examined her because her parole date is listed as 01/01/3000. That's right, the year 3000.

@@chrishaugh1655 In the case of juveniles, it depends on the rules of each state....some do prohibit life without parole, in line, I might add, with the rest of the world. The US is very Old Testament with its penal policy in many states. Hopefully humane and science-based sentencing will get a look-in soon. It is never too late to join the civilized world.
The two students that killed their teacher are terrifying. They acted so casual about not only killing their teacher over a bad grade, but also receiving life sentences. When they apologized to the family, they said it in such a robotic way that they weren't even saying it because they were sorry for themselves, they were saying it because they had to. They killed their teacher, didn't care enough to hide the body, and went to court to receive life sentences as if it were a minor inconvenience. Both are complete antisocial psychopaths.

I’m obviously not defending people who kill, but just because something is written down doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t come from the heart. Sometimes you have more to say and several things to address, and a single moment isn’t enough to fully work through your mind and externalize all of it at once. Some people communicate their emotions differently. Letters are written because their contents are formed over a long period of dwelling and reflecting.

The grieving families and prosecutors seem to have railroaded her. Evidence of car crash where one survives I think should credit some the survivor. She really should have been committed to a mental institution for a few years to see if she was capable of even understanding what she did or if it was intentional.

Very obvious the commenters in here are American and have zero knowledge of the outside world. In the UK and Germany, murder is life with possibility of parole after 15 years. Exactly the same as some others here have gotten in their US cases.
The first case I don't know much about but I feel like there could have been more too it. Maybe she could have mistaken the break for the pedal at a moments notice.
Once, my auntie had a cat run out on her in the road on her way home from work. She had nothing but a split second's notice to react, ended up mistaking the break for the pedal and literally took off flying through an elderly neighbour's fence and into their back garden.
It was a good job there was no brick wall to run into, nobody on the other side of that fence, no pedestrian walking on the sidewalk and nobody else in the car with her. That poor kitty however ...
In a split instance sometimes you dont have enough time to react. This could have been very, very bad timing - too bad timing. She may have been having issues with her boyfriend. She made "threats" to his property and stuff, but did she really intend to kill him that day?
I've 'said' bs to my girl in the heat of a rare argument, the same as she has with me. But there was no real intent we both know that, we are solid! But if we got in the car together, accidentally crashed and the passenger got hurt or even died - and then the detectives stumbled across a chat log ironically days before that fatal accident, then it could look there was real intent behind it. When there is definitely not! You feel me?

The fact that Mackenzie Shirilla's parents stood up for her after a horrific case like that.
Her mother pleading to the judge about who her daughter really is without expressing remorse for the victims, and then her father saying "We know you are innocent" as she was being led out of the room after sentencing.

Concurrent sentencing is a judicial cheap shot. It reduces multiple felonies to one served all at once. Add to that early release, and it's a get out of jail free card. That first girl who drove into a wall at 100 mph is not going to spend life in prison. She'll be out in less than 20 years, with plenty of life left in her. It's a slap in the face to the two males whom she murdered as well as their families too.
Other inmates will make sure if she ever gets out, she won’t be pretty.

Parole in 15 years is a ridiculous insult to the value of human life.
Allow me to put human life in perspective. If we were wiped out tomorrow, what change would it make in the universe? Absolutely nothing. Thats how worthless we are as a species. We lie, cheat, steal, scam, and kill each other all the time anyway.
Possibility of parole. In most civilized countries (of which I do not include the US) most murder convicts get 15 to 25 years. Life without parole is withheld for the most egregious of murders and rarely applied. Execution is non-existent in more than 2/3 of countries and not a single advanced democracy (the US not being an advanced democracy.) But, as I said, the sentence allows for the possibility of parole, not parole guaranteed. And to get parole would require multiple circumstances to be in agreement including the victims views. Of course you don't allow for the reality of the sentence because you are creating a strawman in order to whine.
