I do some work with the DJI Avata 2 flying in very close proximity to subjects and/or tie spaces. It is an amazing tool but the small sensor camera feel sucks. I am definitely going to be using this (with moderation) to give the footage a more pro camera look. Thanks man!
Your videos are so well done, easy to understand with great examples, so thank you so much! But my question is…Is there any way you’d be able to do a tutorial on grading landscape drone footages? Specifically, bright foggy/misty sky and shadow heavy foreground (such as mountains) with no clear/easy separation for masking? 😅. Appreciate you! ;)
hey Sophia, first of all thank you for the love. You are so specific that I’m assuming that that’s what you deal with and if that’s the case and you have some footage DM me on Instagram and I’ll definitely make it happen.
Have you considered using Tilt Shift Blur instead of background defocus? It offers an anamorphic defocus setting that looks even more believable and produces the vertical stretched bokeh typical of anamorphic lenses with a higher squeeze factor. You just need to fine-tune the settings correctly.
Blackmagic is constantly changing the game. Super sick man, thanks for going over this! Also I just got a BMD CC6k and just diving into working with Braw footage. Would love to see you work with Braw in a video, if you don't already have content on that.
The problem with using a power window alone is that the blur doesn't actually transition properly from no blur to blurry. It just sort of fades into each other. A good trick I learned from Barrett Kaufman's video here is he uses tilt shift and feeds it the power window. The the blur will actually start sharp and over the course of the gradient, get blurrier and will look more natural. Just have to be sure to adjust the sweep/range settings in tilt shift. Hi Qazi! A really great video! Wao!! I would really like you to do a video tracing us how to color grade with luts and look pro. I know luts is not the right approach but I will like to know how to color grade with luts. It would be great video.
Awesome tool and instruction - as always! Where in a larger node tree would you position this node - more in the beginning or more towards the end? My gut feels says: more in the beginning to allow the grading to grade the blurs - but happy to learn from you.
If you would edit a RUclips Video would you put your talking head (after cutting it up) in a compound clip and apply the defocus on the compound or would you go from clip to clip?
This is absolutely fantastic...thanks for this..as always you bring good stuff...I am guessing for any moving camera I need to track the power window? I'll try it out
When using the Magic Mask you just dragged the alpha channel to the next node input - don't you have to Invert the mask so the effect is happening on the background and not the subject??
@@theqazman Humor me, try it out. Use Tilt-shift blur, make a soft mask on a node before and invert it. Run the key output into the 2nd green input on the tiltshift node and set the map source to "from second input" set near blur range to 0, set far blur range to 0.333 (It imitates the focus rolloff of a lens where from the point of critical focus to infinity there is 2/3rds of the Depth of feild and 1/3rd to wards minimum focus). Then thats it, you're done. The Blur background filter blends with opacity so you can see the sharp layer underneath at the transition point, it looks fake, this Tilt-shift Blur method creates a realistic transition where the focus gradually gets blurrier. Can also Use Magic Mask or depth map as your key input but you will have to do some post proccessing to finesse the map by adding blur to made the edges soft because by default the edge of Depth map is too sharp to allow for the focus roll-off to work. You need the key input to have a very very soft edge.
Hi waqas qazi can do a big video raw file compress it into small size but not lose resolution and sound qualities but it play very good in big screen Tv like 75 inches screen like a video raw file size of 4TB the lowest file size but not lose qualities of image video resulotions and sound by using davinci resolve but do give the confirmation of the files size plus without lose resolution of image videos too .because it very very important why if a person want to does these things only want to get the confirmation before buy a camera they want to use 8K camera to shoot 8K videos big raw file but these videos can be play in big 75 inches screen of 8K resolution plus in bigger resolution of projector more than 8K resolution before they does these buying these expensive camera like will buy 12K ursa mini camera blackmagic for shooting very beautiful videos please help in these situations.
Do I have to wait 8 minutes until I can comment "great video"?
Haha. My man. ♥️
@@theqazman 😘
I very much appreciate you showing how you use the effect with both normal camera and the iPhone footage!
Made the most sense.
My favourite tool is the color balancer, it saved my ass in a fast changing light situation on a wedding shoot.
Super helpful.

Sounds like a plan. Of course bro.
Yes, the Colour Splice tool seems amazing, I wish you could make a video on that
I’ve been struggling to make this type of effect, using regular blur…wow this is so cool. Thanks!
You're welcome
Your tutorials are generally really great, but this one rocked my colour world! A great and very useful tool! Thanks.
better to get it in camera, but very cooooool to add texure to make your look stand out

I have used it in the past but haven't messed around with it recently. I'll give it a shot.
I love defocus, is a great great tool. Blackmagic made a home run. The other new tool is a film look creator, so simple to use and intuitive.
Blackmagic is constantly changing the game. Super sick man, thanks for going over this! Also I just got a BMD CC6k and just diving into working with Braw footage. Would love to see you work with Braw in a video, if you don't already have content on that.
Great overview of Defocus Background, Qazi. I'm curious to see how it compares to Lens Blur OFX. Gotta try it out!
Ty and absolutely.
Here for the soft, creamy edges ;)
My kinda, auntie. 😁

For what I'm using it for it works perfectly fine but yes you can use depth map to add the z axis.
@@theqazman yes and I love your technique as well, just sharing for the power window technique :)
Barrett did it better for sure.
I will be upgrading this weekend. Thanks for another great video!

@@theqazman Thanks a lot - makes a lot of sense!
love, but shouldn't the anamorphic effect be vertical?

I have a dedicated node for it. I think it makes it much easier.

🙏🏽 and yes.
@@theqazman got it!! Thanks a lot. Always look forward to your contents. Solid!
I'm confused, I heard that DCTLs only work with the Studio version of Resolve, not the free one.
Great point buddy.... It's good!!

Awesome video! Just one point, anamorphism isn't supposed to stretch everything vertically? like the lenses ? How do I correct that?
Set the anamoprhism to a lower value than 1 to get vertical stretching. Somewhere around 0.5 looks very close to a 2x anamorphic lens.
Ohh my god! What a sick tool! Appreciate your videos as always!
Thank you.
Thank you

tilt shift blur works better
Depth map works better than that.

Wouldn’t it be better to use depth map than magic mask?
Depending on the situation. Depth map isn't as optimized so it's more cumbersome.

I liked it until you added the magic mask, then there was a halo around your ear and I just couldn't unsee it.

Meh. They're overdoing it nowadays. It makes the image even more artificial, in my opinion.
nahh the magic mask thing looks soo cheap, it looks like it was shot on a green screen or something
