Another wonderful Disney movie with music that lives on through the late 80's into the 90's and on! This is how I interpret this beautiful song written by Alan Menken.
    Your Pianist,

14 years later and I still consider this to be the definitive piano transcription and performance of this song!
Over others, it really captures the tone-progression, selects the best octaves for the voices, and isn't overly adorned with personal garnish or ligatures, which, for many other arrangements in my opinion, subtracts from the song more often than not.

I've been studying piano for about a year -at the age of 35 mind you- and all I can say is WOW. I originally thought this was an overly embellished version of Part of Your World, but the more I listened to it and the more I became a student of the piano and a fan of music, the more I recognized this piece as a beautiful, artistic interpretation of the genius that is Alan Menken. Thanks Kyle!

I’ve been playing 5 months and can already play Kyles arrangement of Hercules.
Reading is not the be all And end All. I suggest you simply learn the parts and practice them hard. You can play most songs even very challenging within a month or so.
People don’t practice in the right way and end up wasting years, when it’s easier than it looks!

Kyle Kyle, I have listened to great pianists all my life; they spend thousands of hours practicing high brow classical; and you my friend come by it in expression, shading, technique: you'll blow them away. When you progress through your bass section"and go to crescendo levels, this is where you're touching people. It is the pronounced-based section or the frosting on the cake if you will, that expresses your raw talent my friend. . you play for the sheer joy of it!!wishing you good health

I used to watch the movie so many times a day when I was really little. I would always ask my mom to put it on even right after it finished. I used to sing the songs with them too, and this one was my favorite. Now that I'm older, and I know how to play the piano, I want to learn this so I can play this for my family and loved ones one day.

i'm just glad this original version was found again.. cause it was lost, a few years back when youtube kinda upgraded, this version was actually lost, and kylelandry did another newer version of the song.. but luckily in the newer comments somebody said the old version still exists, cause somebody saved it and put it in a website (it was a non-english website, maybe chinese or japanese), but i'm just glad this version was recovered..
note the key change in 2:38 , i think that key change was not in his newer version (nor in alan menken's version) and people did notice this version was the better than his recent

I can't believe this was posted in 2008... it has been so long since I've heard this song and I feel a bit... different. Listening to this song gives you that feeling that a lot of things have passed. From being a child and having lots of fun, to being a teen and undergoing a lot of change, to being a grown adult and having much experience about the changing world. I'm not a grown adult yet but listening to this song makes me feel as though I'm a parent looking into a scrapbook of my memories.

    But who cares?
    No big deal
    I want more
I want to be where the people are
    I want to see
    want to see 'em dancin'
    Walkin' around on those
(Whad'ya call 'em?) oh - feet
Flippin' your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumpin', dancin'
    Strollin' along down a
    (What's that word again?) street
    Up where they walk
    Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
    Wanderin' free
    Wish I could be
    Part of that world
    What would I give
    If I could live
    Outta these waters?
    What would I pay
    To spend a day
    Warm on the sand?
    Betcha on land
    They understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
    Bright young women
    Sick o' swimmin'
    Ready to stand
And ready to know what the people know
    Ask 'em my questions
    And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
    (What's the word?) burn?
    When's it my turn?
    Wouldn't I love
Love to explore that shore above?
    Out of the sea
    Wish I could be
    Part of that world

However, one song for €8,93 is quite a lot of money considering full songbooks of 12-15 songs usually only cost twice that amount. I understand you want to make some money off of the sheet music, but can't it be a little less? XD

You obviously can read sheet music but regardless it is really impressive that you can improvise so very well off the sheets !! Good job man I'm trying to learn the piano if I'm lucky I'll get half as good as you are :)

John Gunnerek I know right! I have no idea why crappy pop stars like justin beiber and usher get millions of views, but Kyle, who has an extreme handle on the piano, who plays with actual meaning to his songs, gets on a few hundred thousand views.

i was looking around for something special to play for my wedding, and all the "normal" stuff just sounded so, well, plain. there was no emotion or heart. the little mermaid is and always will be my favorite movie, especially this song. i sing it while cleaning house lol. but when i heard you play this and pictured walking down the isle to say i do to the man of my dreams, i cried. i have cried every time i've heard this since then, and when i showed it to my sister and bridesmaids, we all cried. thank you for your passion and attention to every detail of every note. you have brought this song to life and given it new meaning for me. :)

Correct fingering is absolutely crucial. I would definitely take a bunch of time aside and figure out the best place for your fingers to land.

    • @fredtheafricanpianist5935
      @fredtheafricanpianist5935 9 лет назад +13

Ryan692 Slow practice--really helps--to play accurately at high tempo really requires a good foundation at a lower speed, discipline, perseverance and most importantly PATIENCE. Years maybe for difficult pieces like the Chopin etudes. Maybe practicing the passage at metronome 70 or even lower (IMPORTANT: a speed we can play accurately without missing any notes) and gradually increasing speed by 6 or 8 metronome beats after repeated practice
Important: one should move fingers with minimal effort, ie. eliminate all unnecessary finger movements--practicing scales with coins on the hand without them falling was done in the olden days and may still be useful. Moving the arms the minimum necessary helps greatly with increased speed at higher tempos. Also playing deeply into the keys, as if aiming for the wood underneath the keys really helps with evenness.
Patience is really important--especially for difficult passages and pieces. It can be frustrating after long hours of practice not to play something accurately, but that really is the best--and after some time, there will be definite improvement--we shouldn't get discouraged when things seem not to go well on the keys. With time and effort, the results will come out:)

Frederick Ikpatt I concur! Quality is > than Quantity --> Precision over speed. The speed will be attained over time, but accuracy is crucial in the beginning. I found myself being able to play pieces with more precision and speed the next day when I was unable to play the night before simply by 'sleeping on it'. - Allow the mind to put the 'pieces together' while you sleep, and you'll often-time find [time] (Patience) really being all the essence that you needed in order to improve from one day to the next. Like lifting weights - start at a lower level, and push your limits in order to slowly broaden your horizon and capability 'scope' - But don't try to just lift the 100 lb dumbell when you haven't even been able to work your way up to the 40 lb dumbell first. - ; )

i cant think of words suiting enough to describe the way you play, except it seems as if you take in the notes, the beat, the very puse of the song, and shroud it all in light..... and you move with the music, which is the mark of a great musician. please never stop playing=)
