Halle is massively talented but she can't act and sing simultaneously... or the movie was so rushed they wouldn't let her. All the live action remakes have been rushed cash grabs so it wouldn't surprise me if she wanted some additional takes but wasn't allowed.
Although I love the new version (Halle beautifully sang the high note), the original one always wins my heart. Jodi's heavenly voice and her singing style perfectly reflects the life and feelings of a 16-year-old girl!

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of one day in grade 7 when my middle school had a talent show and he girl with the very last performance sang this song. She has the best voice I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I never tend to have much reaction to music, but her voice made me tear up. She sang every note beautifully and perfectly in tune and it made me wish I joined chorus instead of orchestra (I absolutely love my violin😭)

Although she already had collections of “ the above world”, which already told her stories, but she still wanted something real. She wanted to experience on her own, earned her own point of views and knowledge. The world is scary and sometimes can be cruel to women, but understanding the real world is the key to grow some girls into women. I understand how Ariel had been through, because I have been exactly like her. My conservative and loving parents tried to protect me by all costs, provided me everything I needed for an easy and comfortable life in my hometown. But all I wanted was going to study abroad and earning some working, traveling experience. I had a big collection of foreign friends and treasure from different countries 😂, stories of religions and cultures that my friends told me about. But “ no big deal, I want more “. Yeah, I want to discover on my own, write my own stories and grow into a more experienced, strong and and adventurous woman. I want to enjoy life, see what makes me happy and what I can learn and should avoid . The outside world is scary, but it is all worth it.
When me and my father were visiting my mom because she was very sick with ovarian cancer I was comforting her by singing this song to her it was one of my favorites because I could identify with Ariel and when I was done singing the song my father was crying I had to sing this very song to let my mother know then I will always be her Little mermaid just like Ariel from the movie she has always been one of my favorite Disney princesses in fact she's one of my top five favorites the others are Jasmine Aurora Rapunzel and Cinderella! I really do miss my Mom!😢
Ariel has always been my favorite princess just because of how curious she was and how she wanted to explore so much more like I do. Both Halle’s and Jodi’s are great for different reasons. Halle’s has a very strong and powerful voice but I felt like Jodi did a better job of showing the meaning and the curiosity of Areil. And for that reason the original will always be my favorite. (I’m not judging Halle though her singing was magnificent this is just my personal opinion.)

Howard Ashman instructed Jodi Benson to not belt out the notes. There's footage of that on RUclips. It was a deliberate choice. So when they did the exact opposite in the remake it felt like they just wanted to show off the singing skills.
The whole point of this song is a bittersweet, “lm depressed” type of I want musical number, and the new version kind of butchers that. She’s quieter, and much less bubbly. She’s innocent and that heavenly voice. Such an incredibly great song I can’t even!

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE LITTLE MERMAID
1: before they hired Jodi Benson to voice Ariel in the little mermaid the voice actor they were gonna use was a black woman, but back then Disney was blind and decided to use Jodi Benson instead sense she was white, this is the reason in the live action little mermaid movie actor was black, to make up for what they did!
2: the reason why Ariel was the only princess with a child is because the little mermaid story was based on a different story, the original story had a mermaid who fell in love with a human, and in the story she had a child, so in the second little mermaid movie they gave her a child!
3: The popular song "Part of Your World" was almost cut from the film.
4: Ursula's look was inspired by a famous drag queen, and the villain is not an octopus but a Cecaelia.
5: "The Little Mermaid" was released in 1989, but even superfans might not know these fun facts.
6: Ursula was originally conceived as Triton's sister, which would have naturally made the character Ariel's aunt, but the idea was ultimately abandoned
7: Hans Christian Andersen's original Little Mermaid story is much darker, featuring painful consequences for the main character's choices. In the original tale, mermaids have no souls and must earn one by getting a human to fall in love with them, leading to a tragic ending.
