- "There's no such thing as bad weather." But there ARE bad clothes. And there are bad systems for storing those clothes. Hello, snow clothes bin.
I knew that if my children (aged 5, 4, 3 and 1) were going to be gearing up 2-4 times a day to go outside for an hour, they needed to be WARM. They needed to get dressed INDEPENDENTLY. And they needed to easily PUT BACK all their garments in an organized fashion.
This is the clothing we decided on, and perhaps even more importantly, the system we created to keep everything neat and organized without nagging!
I hope this blesses your home!
Katie
P.S. For more on how to train children to maintain the organizational systems you create, keep rooms clean on their own, love the outdoors AND never ask for screens, check out my new 7-video Mini Course, "Peacefully Productive Kids."

The socks beside the shoes is genius! This has been an issue for us as they're always barefoot!
I’m referring back to this video now that we have just moved from Florida to the mountainous Carolina region, and I have NO clue what I’m doing with all this frost on the ground outside today! Thank you, Katie!!! I will be purchasing these items you recommended!
Wow! What’s difficult for me having grown up in the So Cal desert and now living here in the PNW is I don’t want to be out in the rain or wet. I definitely have tried to work on my perspective of the long rainy seasons but I personally don’t enjoy being out in it especially in June. 😬
Huh, I was wondering why there are no softshell outerwear patterns in American sewing groups and it seems that people just keep their kids inside in damp and windy weather.... 😮
Thank you for promoting the outdoors overseas❤
I love the minimalism. Definitely key.
So glad you’re back to posting on RUclips!
This is awesome stuff to put into practice even though my kids are grown. I have a bunch of grandchildren.
Just for inspiration, here in Europe, we use Softshell pants and jackets a lot in damp (not rainy but foggy or drizzly) and windy weather because they are more breathable (there is a membrane that let's vapours out but doesn't let them in).
This video is sooo helpful! Thank you so much, I've been binge watching your videos and feeling so inspired and hopeful to recreate some of these systems for my own family. 🙏🏽💗
I love these information packed videos so much!! I feel like you have really found ways to tackle the biggest sore points of parenting and I'm so grateful you're willing to share that with us! Thank You!!
Oh my word, please more organization vids! We have like one downstairs closet and I love how you hung the coats on the door!
So many great ideas! I have three little ones so far. They are 6, 3, and 1. I just bought them rain coats and boots, snow pants and boots, and different gloves, butI think I'll start implementing this system! Next time I have to purchase for my oldest, I'll try some of these items and work our way into it. I will definitely put command hooks over top of their boot rack! That's such a great idea! Thank you for sharing and encouraging the out of doors life. It's something I aspire to, but I have definitely failed in this area for a long time.
I don't have little kids, but I just read the book There's no Such Thing as Bad Weather. My mouth was hanging open a lot by what I read! Loved it!
This was so helpful!! Thanks Katie!! Always appreciate your ways of organizing and simplifying life with kiddos!
I live in Norway. There's an expression here. No bad weather just bad clothing
You’re always such an encouragement!! I have four little girls, and we don’t do screen time either, so it’s great to see ideas to help us spend more time outside. Thank you for sharing!!
So helpful! Thank you for doing a lot of research on the clothing, Katie! As a mom of two two and under, I understand how the mess can pile up. So I appreciate ways to help simplify!
How do you dress yourself for rainy cold weather? I can’t imagine an adult running around in a waterproof jumper 😅
Good question. 😂
I dress for the weather too. It means getting yourself a pair of rain pants and a rain jacket. I have frogg toggs and a pair of muck boots.
Adults use waterproof jumpers too though- they're much like ski suits!
Lol I was hoping she would say..
Maybe she watches from the window 🤣
I just ordered the books you suggested! We live in North Carolina and the weather is pretty good year-round. However, there are the occasional cold and/or rainy days that we're just not as prepared for as those who live in other states that experience that kind of weather more frequently. So, please know that your video was extremely helpful for how to dress my 18-month-old son on the days when the weather isn't its usual hot and humid! Thank you! - Kati
Thank you for sharing! My 2 year old goes to an outdoor focused program and so they are out in all kinds of weather here in Utah and I was having trouble finding ways to keep him dry and warm. This definitely helped!
I was searching for this very topic this morning before you posted. Thanks for reading my mind.
I just found your channel and I am so blessed ❤ I watched a video on your mom and you talking about marriage ❤I am single at age 43 and have been all my life . I haven’t been finding guys that love the lord ❤I haven’t had the best role model in the family 😢 but through you and your mom I definitely ❤ know how to do it better. ❤ I now feel blessed and love ❤️ doing my art for the lord. I am not going to search for a man anymore that just gets me into trouble 😮 no I am going to love ❤️ the lord . Thanks for your encouragement and role model for me. I watch your show in the morning to get closer to God’s Love ❤️ thanks 🙏 I also live 2 hours south of you too.
Write a list down and pray over it! It worked for me ♥️🙏🏻
@@Blessednesting Thanks !! I will visualize and pray, I do love the blessings that our father gives he is opening up a world I couldnt' see. Blessings
Most of this didn’t apply bc we live in Texas where it’s hot and dry most of the year but always love your videos. I would love it if you’d write a book bc as we try for screen-free parenting it will mean not watching your videos 😢 And there are not enough books about big family management. I think I may have all of them!
Love this. So minimalistic
Loved the screen free concept😍😍😍
Yay! We love love love that book. I was so disappointed to have not found more videos on it when I first read it. So when your video popped up on my feed I was so excited!!!! Great video!
Soooo so helpful thank you!
Thanks for some tips and ideas.
question >> what have you chosen for hats for your littles? (this was wonderful + so very helpful! thank you so much for sharing this)
Super helpful! Thank you
Amazing tips!!
What are those metal rings on your kids coats???? I feel like those could be life changing! Kids and hangers just don’t mix! 😂
I also was wondering where you bought those round hooks that are on your kids jackets? This is brilliant for toddlers to be able to do that themselves
Just a shower ring hook :)
Do you or Elisha find yourselves using the same types of ideas for your needs; for example, you both have black beanies in a higher basket, or you both get the same brand of winter coat? If not, what do you do?
Thank you so very much for all of the amazing content you put out. I’ve binged watched so many RUclips videos and podcasts. I’m also a content creator and the Lord is using your example to encourage me to not spend so much time on social media, and that it is possible as a content creator too. Okay, so with that… where are the brown shoes from? I didn’t see a link for those. ❤
Adelisa & co :)
Hi! The hunters boot/sock link doesn’t work!! Could we get an updated one?! Thanks ❤️❤️
Where I live we have currently - 15 degrees Celsius, with windshield -25 .
There is bad weather.
I live in Canada and we all played outside in that weather all winter. However the winter gear in her video won't cut it for that. You definetly need better and more expensive coats and gear. Usually 150-400$ coats tested for -40. We also would change pair of gloves for a new warm pair if fingertips were getting cold but wanted to play longer so you need more than 1 pair each. They're are warm pads that you we could put in our gloves and boots as well, you need a few of those per person.
The school still does recess and 30 min after lunch in that weather so it's not considered bad.
Only time we don't play outside is if there is black ice (extremely rare) and you will know because there are warnings on the news.
Hope this helps!
@@rogenniedominguez8291 thank you
We also have weather like that. You dress for it. We also don't spend as much time outside and go out more frequently. When our windchill are down to -30F/ -35C we spend tops of 15 minutes in area near the house with some wind blockage. The kids and I dig forts in the snowdrifts and build windbreaks in yard. The time and expense on good gear are worth the benefits. Also, you take care of your gear so you can pass it down from kids to kid.
I have questions 🙋♀️ what size(s) did you get for waterproof gloves to fit all kids?? What coats do you have for the snow/freezing?? What beanies/gloves/socks do you like to keep warm?? I have kids close to your kids ages!
We use ski masks for our kids, it covers the nose, mouth, neck and head ~ a beanie is not enough for true winter weather 😂 We found ours on Amazon! You can check out the temperature rating and pick ones that test below freezing.
Hello! How to you handle the wet things when you come back inside? Do you have to towel dry everything or does it drip all over your floor or is there another solution?
How long have you guys been doing 1000 Hours Outside? Love this video!
This is very helpful! What brand are their brown boots?
So glad you enjoyed it! Here is the website the brown shoes are from - www.adelisaandco.com
Where do you get your curriculum? I had never heard of classical education but in a way I’ve tried to do just what you are saying…. I had no idea it was a thing already 🤣 do you get a full curriculum or pull from your own resources? Id love some help! Thank you for all you guys do!
What do the kids wear under The gear? Thermals? Regular clothes? Do you layer? I am from California and this snow is all new to me. I hate the cold so I need recommendations on things for mom to wear too! 😅thanks
So helpful! Can you share what brand you will use for snowsuits? Thank you!
I'm so glad! They still have their old Costco ones from last year, so I'm not sure what we'll do next! :)
Thank you!
how do you do thorough tick checks on 4 squirmy kids?
How have the mittens held up? I have four boys five and under and we need to invest in some new mittens.
Love these ideas! The link to the free Masterclass isn't working. Could you send me the link?:)
We are so sorry it wasn't working. It is working now. The link is www.nowthatwereafamily.com/peacefully-productive-home-masterclass :)
What brand are the leather shoes
They look like Adelisa and Co shoes to me. They’re having a 20% off sale right now!
@@mirandabrubaker5984 Yes!
One thing I am confused about is being screen free but you film a podcast and out your lives on screens
I don't see a link for the boot socks- can you link them, please?
Do your kids not want different colour clothes
Great video! What is the black ring called that you attached to the kids jacket to make it easier to hang themselves?
It's a shower ring hook :)
how would 3hrs of outdoor time look with a baby 4 months say and three toddlers
Id love to know what kind of snow pants you may have found for your kiddos?
Half of these links don't work
What do you wear in the rainy/cold weather?
I’m also wondering about good rainy/cold weather options for mom. My kids all have gear, but I’m having a hard time finding affordable options for myself. :)
What about the big ring hooks you’re using for t he coats? What are those called?
They are shower curtain hooks! :) You Can also use ones from three ring binders!
My trouble is the summer when its 105 out
Splash pads. The river. And Sprinkler under the trampoline all day, every day.😂
Where did you get their leather boots?
