I taught my kids to put their hand on me for attention when they were in preschool. It's amazing how much peace it brings to our family. Today, even as teenagers, they still come put their hand on me to interrupt if I'm in the middle of a conversation. So respectful!

How did you teach them to do that?

    • @nynkeandreae7008
      @nynkeandreae7008 Год назад +7

@@paulagaziero8055 Just tell them, that if they want your attention, they can ask for it by putting their hand on your arm or leg. Don't give them attention if they start whining for it (but you can say something like 'if someone wants my attention they need to put their hand on me' without looking at them). Respond quickly in the beginning, so they know that is what works and what you want. Then explain to them, at a quiet moment, that it might take a little time for you to respond when you are busy. Then gradually increase your response time. A good time to practice is when you are talking to someone.

i heard a great tip, which is, if you want to finish the sentence or something, to place your hand back 9n their hand, so the kid knows that you noticed them and will give them your attention the moment you have finished😊

I have definitely found that preparing my boys before something happens really helps them manage the situation well. My two year old would throw tantrums when I put him down when he was wanting to be held, but sometimes I need to use both hands for dinner. So now I tell him what I need to do, tell him I'm going to put him down for it, and then I'll pick him up again when I'm done. I say all of this while holding him. Then I can feel him letting himself out of my arms after he knows what to expect. Game changer! So many meltdowns and whining avoided with preparation. Loved this video!!

Thank you SO SO SO much for this. So many of us poor parents really have good intentions and set out to be the best parent but we were never properly "trained" ourselves. I can say this is so for myself. I have been feeling so overwhelmed with my 4 and 2 year old because the whining has begun, not listening, acting out. This is all new! Now I know they really just need trained:) It will begin today!

I work with toddlers at a daycare and I do practice with them, but not often enough! It's also good to remember that there are lots of games (like red light-green light) that help teach the self control required for "stop." I think it's even better to practice this way, but it can be good to mix it up with classic games like that.

Our 3 year old has a busy mind (and body) and would often struggle to settle to sleep especially if he had a quick nap in the car or something - we found audiobooks to be a gamechanger (there are lots free on spotify as podcasts). Instead of fighting us, he actually loves to get in bed with a bottle of milk (his is quite old for it but it's a relaxing part of his routine) and his stories. We generally do pjs, teeth, read a book/bible story with him (more if theres time), tuck him in then say a prayer and put on the stories/give him his milk. Also, he just knows he is not allowed to come in when I'm putting our baby to sleep or I will be very displeased!

It is so encouraging and refreshing to see the male and female Godly perspective on a lot of your topics and so we wanted to request a video on how you guys talk to your boys about purity. The fact that your kids being so YOUNG were able to open up to you guys about how they either looked away quickly or looked for a little longer when they saw those girls with little clothes was just so beautiful to us. We would love to hear how you guys plant that seed on them and present those subjects to them in this time where promiscuity is found EVERYWHERE! We would love to hear how your husband specifically is able to relate to them in that sense as well as how you play a role as their mother on relating to them afar from displaying modesty in your own home. Please and thank you! May God bless your beautiful family!! ❤

You all have been blessed with wisdom beyond your years and experience. I'm grateful you followed God's leading. Your podcast and channel are such a blessing.
Your story about "move to the side" for when you're in the store is so similar to what we do as a family, but we call it "duck line". 😂 I got the idea once when I was reading an older story called "Make Way for Ducklings" to my older two kiddos. It turns heads when we are in public (which was not my intention), but it is amazing to watch my kids morph into a single file line and move through public places.

I'm one year behind you!! Mine are 8, 6, 1 and 4 months. We make a train to get them to move in a single line in public 😂😂 I love seeing my older kids happy to get on board with silly things like that. It's also such a blessing to feel like we have a second chance to be better parents to our second two - my husband and I didn't come to Christ until 2019-2020, so our older two didn't have much training. By the Lord's grace they're still wonderful kids and receptive to biblical training.

I don't know if you already discussed this in another video (and if you have I would love to know which one so I can listen to it), but I would love to hear a video from you two talking about the difference between being an "authoritative parent" and being "authoritarian" in parenting. As is always the underlying foundation of your talks, to also include what the Word of God teaches in regards to these concepts.

Great ideas! I’d love more just like them, especially for toddlers.

Thank you so much for this. Growing up I was never taught or shown positive reinforcement. It was always so negative and I don’t want that for my kids & sometimes I just don’t know the right way to go about the situations.

Really enjoyed this video! I don’t have kids yet but am excited to try this one day when I do.
I really enjoyed the part about helping them to learn social skills, but how do you help them to differentiate between meeting someone new in a safe environment and stranger danger? Do you have any training tips for stranger safety? Thanks!!!

I never did stranger danger, I just insisted that I need to know where the child is. I didn't say things about people harming him, I just talked about being "lost from each other". I had one extreme extrovert, and I was terrified he'd just walk off with someone. But I didn't want to ruin his friendly spirit. And it really worked, to the point where he got lost in a mall at age 4, and then when a woman came out of a store to help him, he wouldn't go into the store with her, because he wasn't allowed to go with people unless mommy knew where he was going. (🤔 Not sure how that squared with him wandering away from me, but maybe because he was alone?)
She was so kind, she left her store and brought him water, contacted security, and sat with him in the hall until I came racing up.

This is great!!! I have done some of these but the conversation game is genius. My kids have the hardest time carrying conversations and looking at people when talking. I’m definitely going to try that. ❤ thank you
