    I considered home school with a lot of thought and I still do consider it. For now my children are at a private Christian school. I will say I am SHOCKED by the amount of play time both indoors and outdoors, as well as specials, singing worship songs breaks, snack times, etc they have. Both my boys have three 30 min recess times, an indoor play time, 2 snack times, getting up to sing and wiggle times, indoor play time. As well as gym class, music class, stem class (usually involves creating some amazing goo you can play with or something fun), walking to the library, walking to art which is also usually messy and fun. I feel like they get so much opportunity to get all their energy out and it’s been so surprisingly wonderful.

    Oh my gosh your little boy was the cutest thing ever. That minute right there showed how well you are working with your boys. First of all you asked if he’d like to say something and he didn’t just run away and bury his head behind something… that’s a win! 👏👏 congrats on all the hard work you’re doing. So so encouraging!

    My dad wasn’t very involved in homeschooling my siblings and I. He was however an amazing spiritual leader. Very consistent and faithful to teach us the word. He was very busy with work and deaconship. My mom took full ownership of our education. My dad left it up to my mom but they didn’t affect my education negatively. Also, my brothers did very well academically.

    Well spoken for a seven year old 😍I wholeheartedly agree on giving boys their space. You'll be amazed at what you get from them when they can get rid of the extra energy. Boys need that father figure to "rattle their cage" every so often. They need the rough and tumble that a dad or other fatherly-figure can provide, otherwise that "manliness" can get out of control. We had a situation with our son when he was 6 years old and we were still in public school where a boy was bullying him. When I dug a bit deeper, it was a single-mom home with no real father-figure in the boys life. There are other single-moms who just rock their situation by getting that side of their sons development from other men in their lives they know can be a positive influence.

    I really enjoy this podcast. You two have so much insight and valuable experience to share, I always find these chats so helpful and informative. I am also a homeschooling mom, with very wild kids, we started our new school year yesterday since we do year round school. It went great actually, but it's new, it gets harder as the year goes on, but it's always worth it. I have to say, we dont have a school room in our house, and now I'm considering a home school tent 😆 how fun is that! Your son is adorable and so smart!

    I will also say as someone who has considered sending my kids to private Christian school that is associated with our church when they’re older that I don’t think that the environment is conducive to young children either. I see first and second grader is coming home with homework after school, and on top of that, they sat at school for nearly 8 hours and so they’re gone all day and then they come home and they still have to do all this homework and that’s just not fair to the kids

    • @shelleymusleh439
      @shelleymusleh439 21 день назад +1

      I have to disagree! And you can see my comment up above and I can’t speak for every Christian school, but my kids do so so much more than sit in school all day for 8 hours. I mean oodles and oodles of movement and physical time as well as fun messy experiments and art and singing worship songs and getting up for “brain breaks.” I have been so excited and surprised.

      Yes, we were thinking the same thing, I don't want them to come home and do more homework. Yes, they might have been involved at school in other activities, but being there for 8 hours they are constrained to do things that are being told to do, vs. being free to do something they are interested in doing. And to come home and do school work again, it is not good, in our opinion.

      @@EmilGhiurau I personally believe a small amount of homework teaches discipline and organization. To each his or her own! My boys love doing their homework. They also adore going to school. I don’t ever have to fight them on either.

    Also on the question, what are you feeding your child? Lots of sugar? Processed/fast foods? Or Are they getting loads of real whole foods like fruits, veggies, greens ?! Giving food dyes? Even just red food dye has been linked to adhd! And like Katie said, God didn’t make them to sit most of the day in public school. And let me say, we do public school (very small town community else would home school and might one day but so far happy with) and our super healthy kiddos, they do great because they eat real wholesome foods (they take their healthy lunches daily Mama makes them-don’t eat school food 😳) and get the supplements they need, we don’t go out to eat (rare) and majorly watch sugar. Mainly have natural from fruits and like maple syrup and trust me, they don’t miss out! Will have some occasional with organic sugar like YumEarth brand etc. and they have like 3-4 recesses, and when they get home they play outside-we’re in the country, 15 acres, but even if in town….but yah, try all those things and see!! 💪

    I never understood where people get that homeschool kids are going to be weird and unsocial. Especially when there’s weird and unsocial kids in public school as well. I believe kids learn by example and if their parents don’t step out of their comfort zones as introverts that maybe where they are getting it from..

  • @LaurenSheehan
    @LaurenSheehan 21 день назад

    The hardest part about sending kids to school outside your home is that you dont have control over what happens in the school and you dont see every moment ans habit that your kid has in school. Im with yall. I homeschool my boy, but I require a lot of self control and manners from him, and I spend a lot of time helping him learn to focus during lessons, to expand his capacity to give attention to things... I dont allow him to come to school (in our kitchen), in his PJs, or slouch, or fidget during lessons, speak to me poorly, etc but i also get to plan the time of our lessons and etc. I try to run a rigorous classical homeschool but i also am always looking for effectivness as well and at him as a whole person. I know that if i didnt require these things he would be one of those kids that constantly interrupts everyone and is disruptive in class with others (at cc, at church etc)
    Our lessons range from 10-30 min max. And we move from various subjects that give space for mental rest and physical movement etc.
    This year we are focusing on handwriting and it is teaching me a lot about quakity over quanity. But the headline is that my sons handwriting is awful because i never have required it to be excellent. I thought it would just naturally get better as he kept writing. But its actuallt gotten worse the more he writes because his habits of writing are lazy and careless and I allowed it. And I think this applies to all other things.
    I resonate a lot with Katies way of doing and thinking (and that striving for excellence and effectiveness) so its refreshing to hear.

    I’m curious about the topic of children responding differently to the male vs female parent in the household. You mentioned that you have seen the same response from your friends children. Do you have any friends that are Christian left? My husband grew up Christian right (WELS) and I believe it’s the hierarchy that is taught why you see that where Christian’s with a liberal view, teach that parents are equal and children respond accordingly.

    • @KaylieKodesh-zp4wy
      @KaylieKodesh-zp4wy 7 дней назад

      It’s scientifically proven the children realize sex and identify with their own sex/know the sex they belong to between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old about. So little boys will begin to identify with their fathers. This naturally changes the relationship dynamic between mothers and their toddler boys. I think this is more what they are referring to rather than that they see they don’t have to obey or respect mother as much because she is not “the head” of the household. Equal worth in the eyes of God. Different roles in the family.

      I think you would have to know how classical conversations works.. it's split into 30 min chunks and there are hands on activities and songs and hand motions during some of that time. Other 30 mins portions include hands on art and hands on science. So no it's not just sitting and listening to an adult for 3 hours! But there is a lot of time to practice being obedient to the tutor and following guidelines in the class.

    • @hannahthehomesteader
      @hannahthehomesteader 21 день назад +8

      As a mom of kids in CC, I will say that the kids learn to be very confident and well-spoken all on their own. No rehearsal needed. Also, from earlier episodes, it sounds like their kids have recited poems and things before so I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were off the cuff. Finally, they've been anti-having kids on camera for a long time so they hardly use them as props. Let's be gracious :)

    • @RCGWho
      @RCGWho 21 день назад

      @hannahthehomesteader Why would they suddenly put him on camera after taking a position of not putting them on camera?
      The vast majority of children, or even adults, would not have spoken that well.
      Either he's naturally very smart and verbal, or it's practiced. My firstborn was both smart and verbal, so it could be that. Otherwise, it feels performative. And if it's performative, to what end? Marketing their homeschool class or the Get It All Done Club?

      Do you just come on their channel to pass judgement.. I recognize your name from past posts on many of their videos. Ive noticed because in a sea of positivity yours are always critical and overly opinionated. Why are you continually watching here when you seek to oppose them?

    • @RCGWho
      @RCGWho 20 дней назад

      @slee7991 I'm struggling because I really enjoy them, but there's these huge red flags like MLM, Bill Gothard, and going back on their decision to not show their children.
      I believe, too, everyone agreeing about everything and fangirling does not make an interesting discussion.
      Coming at me for having a dissenting opinion is inappropriate behavior if you want to talk about inappropriate behavior.

      I do Classical Conversations, too. It's 3 hours but it's only 1 day a week and it's pretty active and mobile. They are always getting out of chairs, dancing, singing, etc. My 4 year old struggled the first week but every week since then he LOVES it. He knows he gets to wiggle and move a lot. He also knows he gets to go crazy in the church gym after.
