Spring is here and it is time for weed control. Everyone knows that to have a healthy yard, you need to combat weed growth while promoting healthy growth for your turf grass. You could use a mixture of pre and post-emergent herbicides and fertilizers, or you could use a product that will do both for you. That’s our 15-5-10 Weed and Feed.
This weed and feed is labeled to control a wide range of weeds such as clover, dandelion, spurge, and many others. It also supplies your yard with essential nutrients to help it grow strong this season.
There a many different fertilizers out there that have different core analyses. The core analysis is the three numbers you’ll see on a fertilizer bag. Our weed and feed is 15-5-10 -- that’s 15 percent Nitrogen, 5 percent phosphorus, and 10 percent potassium. These three elements are essential to your yard’s health. And this 15-5-10 combo is perfect for Spring.
What’s great about this weed and feed is that there are additional ingredients included as a micronutrient package. This is kind of like vitamin supplements for your grass that will promote health and longevity. Not all fertilizers will have that.
One of the first things we want to do with our bag of weed and feed is read the label. The label will tell you which weeds this will kill and the type of turf grass this is intended for. But it’s also crucial to follow the recommended spreader settings and the application rate. This is important because if you over apply, you could hurt your lawn at worst; at best you’ll waste product.
Per the label, we applied 3.2 pounds of the weed and feed for every 1,000 square feet. The lawn is about 2,500 square feet so that means we’ll need eight pounds of weed and feed. It’s okay to have an approximate square footage because this is a low Nitrogen fertilizer and will not damage your grass.
Start at the edge of the lawn and work your way around, and then go from one end of the lawn to the other, moving at a steady pace to make sure you deliver the correct amount of product to the lawn. Also watch how far the fertilizer is spreading so you’ll know where to go for your next pass.
Some things to consider:
1. You’ll want to make sure to mow your lawn to its normal height a day or two before your application. If the grass is dry at the time of application, sprinkle some water on the grass so that the product will stick and prevent drift.
2. You’ll need to water your lawn at least a day before the application so that the turf and the soil have adequate moisture.
3. Water the lawn a day or two after the application, so the product can have time to stick to the weed leaf surface.
4.You will want to make a follow up application in about 30 days. This is to make sure the correct amount of Nitrogen is put down.
5.And finally, READ THE LABEL. Remember, label is law. Everything you need will be on there.
This Weed and Feed is a great product and a fantastic tool to have for your Spring lawn care program. This will kill and control weeds AND feed your turf grass for a full, luscious lawn. After laying it down, you should start seeing results in about a month.

We do recommend applying this early morning.
You should either wait to dew or apply before rain.

You got pretty close to the desirable broadleaves on the side there. Not sure what herbicide is in your weed and feed but I’m assuming something like 2,4-D and dicamba. Maybe some sulfentrazone. Be careful when applying near broadleaves you don’t want to kill or trees.
Just wandering is there a specific time of the day to apply the lawn weed and feed should be applied? Is it good to put on when it’s gonna be raining the same night?
It’s August and I’m in south Texas. I recently bought a home and they placed carpet grass. It’s been about a month and some of the ugly grass is mixing in. Can I apply something like this or is it too hot?

I would definitely add that you should be careful around the perimeter if you have shrubs and groundcover that the herbicide can get on.
Yes, this application is meant to be used in turf and you would want to avoid getting it around the ornamental beds.

It has been suggested that I leave lawn cuttings, following application of weed and feed, be left on the lawn. Is the reason for further release of nitrogen? I am just worried because I have a small dog

Thank you for the video and I do have a question. I applied Scott’s Turf Builder feed and weed product on my lawn. I used a full bag since our yard is about 5,000 sq ft front and back of house and I went over the areas multiple times. My question is: it started raining 2 hours after the application. When should I start seeing results if any? Should I reapply again? I know the label says you need to have at least 24 hours after application of product before watering but I am not sure if I am just being impatient or the product is slowly working.
Probably got washed away in the rain before it had time to do anything.

I have a 2 acre yard that I am working on treating. I just did 2 applications of Tenacity. I have a LOT of plantain weeds throughout the lawn that the Tenacity doesn't seem to be killing (if is on their label). Would your product be something that can kill the plantain weeds? My lawn looks like a cabbage patch right now.

I used weed and feed as perdirections with the setting on. Spreader as per ,directions it rained the morning I applied it to the wet ground and grass.Grass being 3/4 long it was applied evenly. But noted with in. The week and watered every day post application about 75%of my grass was destroyed?yellow This grass was newly planted and looked nice and green. I just wanted. To get rid of some of the clover and other ground weed.Also feed my lawn and [fertilize] it. What accursed was sudden death ! Not a happy home owner with now yellow burnt grass that once was green. I think I should have kept the clover.

Will it kill freshly mowed dandelions, or is it better to let them grow leaves first?
After I overseed can I use weed and feed right after or should I wait a few days? The lawn has lots of dandelions last year so thats why I wanted to use that particular fertilizer this spring. Thanks.
You're supposed to wait until after you've mowed your new grass a few times before applying this type of product, otherwise your efforts and money on overseeding will be a waste.
I applied the product in the spring here in the north east. It is now going into August and I see many weeds. Can I apply it again this month? Thank you
We would not recommend reapplying it again this month. For the best results, apply Solutions Weed & Feed during the beginning of the spring season when temperatures are not high and when humidity is low. Ross Mingle there’s pros and cons of having a big lot. I wish I had more land and privacy compared to my 1/5 acre lot but then it’s a breeze and economical maintaining what I have.

Don’t know from experience but I read somewhere on the interwebs to wait a month. So there you go, somewhere between 3 weeks and month. Reason is the weed & feed will prevent the new grass seeds from germinating..it’s kinda like birth control for grass!
Pre-emergent is a growth barrier; think of it as a black plastic tarp for seeds. Apply it in spring, then leave it in place to prevent weeds until fall. Once you've broken up the soil in the fall for seeding, you've broken the barrier created by the pre-emergent. You don't want to do that in the spring because of weeds (keep the pre-emergent barrier in place), and new grasslings are vulnerable to the heat and drought of summer. That's why early to mid fall (varies a bit based on location and climate) are best time for seeding.
I applied the scotts early fall weed and feed on my saint augustine and it looks to be dying. I applied it on wet grass but maybe didnt water it in for 2 to 3 days. Did it burn it? What can i do?

It is usually a fertilizer also. Just read the bag before you buy one.

You can use your hand spreader, you can also apply in June and July.
My lawn was looking okay but there was some weed so I decided to go to Lowe's and buy weed and feed for Bahia grass the biggest mistake I ever made now my lawn is very blotchy in color some areas are very green and some areas are just a light green the light green area looks a lot better than the blotchy areas of Bahia and now there's a lot of soil between the blotches where probably weeds were killed and I don't know what to do about that but I read that it's not a good idea to use weed and feed with Bahia grass and anyone that says it is is full of crap no I'm going to be mailing away a sample of my soil and find out what it's going on should have left well enough alone I could have gotten rid of the weeds by pulling them out with my tool especially made for that

I forgot to water the lawn before applying. Will the weed n feed still kill the weeds?
You you will still kill weeds if you apply good coverage of the weeds.
I would make sure you water within at least 3 days. That should help. If it's been more than 3 days since you applied it, you'll prob want a second application in a couple weeks just to be sure.
Watering before is so that product sticks to the weed leaf. If you dont water before it will be less effective. And watering AFTER you didn't BEFORE wont make it more effective.

If you don’t cut the grass before is it going to make a difference
It will still work if you dont cut the grass before. Just make sure to apply when it is not too hot and water before to ensure the trimec sticks to the weed and gets into the system.
No if you cut the grass first, then spray it will work just fine, just try to wait more than a week before you mow again.
