    Hey EZScape. Maybe you could make a video on the top ten most flawless (or close to flawless) speedruns

      Definitely like that that idea. there are some videos (I forget where) that have some of the most flawless speed runs and at the end mentions they've all been beat a couple months later

  • @EZScape
    @EZScape  8 лет назад +540

    Sorry guys for the #2 on this list, I didn't realize that the game wasn't that hard nor that it wasn't a real speedrun because I'm not as familiar with rythm games. If you're wondering what game I would replace with it, it would either be an older FPS like Quake or Doom or Super Mario Bros.
    EDIT: Oh, but the rest of the list is still accurate IMO.

    • @RichterVonFuchs
      @RichterVonFuchs 8 лет назад +19

      yeah #2 was iffy but it was a fun exhibition at the GDQ regardless. It's nice to see rhythm games get some love since it's a really niche hobby (The most popular international IIDX discord only has like 20 active members at any one time).
      Also to shamelessly plugin rhythm games, if you enjoyed the run at GDQ you should the various top level plays of various rhythm games.
      (Dustforce is my favorite speedgame on that list)

      @Gpop119 8 лет назад +45

      Issue wasn't difficulty. It was just simply because it wasn't a speedrun. I'm only seeing osu! fans trying to belittle it because it's not their game osu!mania (which I wouldn't agree on showcasing because a lot of examples they've shown have really awful charts that wouldn't be fun to watch as a showcase anyways).

    Dustforce truly is a work of art. I don't mean that lightly. The way it's animated plus its music gives it that title in my book. I can find myself playing one level for an hour, maybe even hours at a time. The frustration of losing levels is filled with relaxation and calmness because of the ambient music. The way the levels are crafted is truly mindblowing. They had a system in which you had to perfect a level to earn a key, and you would use that key to earn more levels. In layman's terms, to earn more levels, you had to perfect current levels. They ditched that and added an XP system in which you gain more XP to earn a key the more levels you play and perfect. I'm very glad they added this system and was skeptical about buying it. But now that I did buy it, I do not regret it even for a second. One thing I really love about this game is how you don't have to unlock base levels. In a sense, this game is open world. That sense is that many levels are available to you, and you can choose whether you want to advance into more challenging levels, or stay where you're at. To get an S in completion, you have to sweep up EVERY leaf, and to get an S in Finesse, you have to maintain your combo throughout an entire level.
    Another thing I absolutely enjoy about Dustforce is its expasive community. There are lots of Community Workshop maps for you to sharpen your skills on, and lots of people who can set a good example. I'm sure most of the people who get best times on all the levels have a RUclips channel, so you can probably catch them there. The community may or not be active, but it sure is good and friendly.
    Overall, in terms of gameplay, music, artstyle, animation, and difficulty (it's not an easy game, but it's not that hard of a game either. It just depends on how much you want to play it), I rate this game:
    10/10 BUY THIS GAME.

      +Addison Shiu Unless the levels in Kamilia 3 are randomly generated it is not harder than Tetris GM

    • @SpriteGuard
      @SpriteGuard 8 лет назад +1

      The hardest parts of Kamilia 3 are randomly generated. I've seen people take over 200 hours to beat one 5-minute boss. It has a certain similarity, in that you are trying to very quickly read a somewhat randomized situation and improvise very precise movements.
      The thing that makes them really hard to compare is their length. A successful run of TGM3 takes about as long as one of K3's bosses, of which there are a dozen or so, and much like a single run of TGM3, any one of those bosses is likely to take many attempts. So, TGM3 may well be harder than any one Kamilia 3 boss, but whether or not it's harder than beating all of them in a single sitting, plus the extremely difficult platforming, is very hard to say.

    I actually speedrun Monkey Ball. My main category is Monkey Ball 2 Story Mode Any% (With level skipping glitch). In order to get a good time, gameplay is only half of what needs to be good. You need to menu really fast and button mash well too. But if I were to say which is the most difficult part of the classic console Monkey Ball games, I'd say it's Super Monkey Ball Deluxe Ultimate. Playing levels from 1, 2, and some other new levels, Ultimate has 310 levels including the Monkey Ball 1 Master levels. Oh yeah, and playing on an original Xbox controller can be hard to do compared to a GameCube controller.

    • @Frikkinfriks14
      @Frikkinfriks14 8 лет назад +1

      Almost forgot to mention that for getting a WR in Story Mode Any%, you need to be deathless. Doing 76-78 (Don't remember exactly) levels with varying difficulty in a 24 Minute time period is insane and I don't know how anyone has gotten a deathless run. I have trouble finishing a run most of the time and I'm not even that bad.

    I mean, Stepmania isn't really a speedrun, and 4k isnt as hard as most games tbh

    • @Chakratos
      @Chakratos 8 лет назад +5

      Most "Hard" Speedruns or Games need very technical things.
      Stepmania or "Mania" in general on the other side relies purely on your physical skills and to be good you need to train them a LOT.
      Bonus: The chanche to get carpaltunnel is high!
      (Dont't say 4k is easy before you even done some 18KPS Jumpstream^^

    • @ArighettoText
      @ArighettoText 8 лет назад

      Chakratos I have done 18kps jumpstreams too, and I don't consider them easy, but I mean I can do 18 kps on just streams at 250~ bpm. Including jumps at speeds around 210-ish bpm raises kps to mid 20s, so I definitely know my way around the game. I still wouldn't call it easy, but I don't think its rocket science, its just physical skill and execution similar to high level speedruns. It just doesn't require the same conscious thought as speedruns. That's all I mean by 'easy'

    • @ArighettoText
      @ArighettoText 8 лет назад

      Looking at the video again and seeing other games like Stepmania in the list like Tetris, I would want to point out the differences in that Tetris requires speed to play through as well as high skill like Stepmania to go fast, but Tetris actually has an end for their runs, and a definable route of sorts, Stepmania, despite being at a speedrun event was not a speedrun but, as said, it was only a showcase of the game and its speed.

    • @cfilorvyls457
      @cfilorvyls457 8 лет назад

      You gotta admit that staiain is really got at it tho. He hit 40KPS in stepmania, that's 10 input per finger per second, crazy. Highest kps i ever had was 44, and that's playing 7k, nearly double the finger

    • @ArighettoText
      @ArighettoText 8 лет назад +1

      Daniel Hadinata
      I don't think there's any discussion regarding it not being impressive, but the skill comes from speed, not difficult patterns or technicalities like most other rhythm games, as 4k is simple in concept. The only point is that it's not a speedrun, however impressive it is.

    @kynexiz2685 8 лет назад +15

    This was a really well made! You didn't sound like you were bored throughout the video and adding the numbers at the corner was a nice touch.
    But i really have to disagree with #2. You can't really speedrun a rhythm game. Speedrunning a game pretty much means completing a game as fast as possible, no? Well you can't really do that in rhythm games since each track has a set time and the only way to change it is to use modifiers to speed up the track but faster doesn't necessarily mean better/harder. Well actually it kinda does but the amount of times the term "speedrunning a track" is used within the rhythm game community is close to zero.
    And even then including StepMania is quite unfair to other rhythm games out there, such as Taiko no Tatsujin, osu!, BMS, LR2, O2Jam, KSM, etc.
    Staiain signed up for StepMania in AGDQ and was somehow accepted. He signed up for StepMania again recently along with HappyStick who signed up for osu! and they were both declined most likely due to the games not being "speedrun-able"
    I suck at arguing but my main point is that a rhythm game can't be speedrunned.

    • @EZScape
      @EZScape  8 лет назад +4

      Guess it may be slightly debatable, but I assumed that when GDQ accepted it the first time then it counted as a speedrun.

      Actually, the entire "I Wanna" fangame series could, and should, be put in one group. Every fangame uses the same physics, so if you're good at one fangame, you're basically good at another. Some fangames even homage other fangames and basically take their screens with just a few tweaks, adding traps or what else.

      If you made the choice of having less difficult games in the video for this purpose, then it's not a _top_ 10, is it? It's just a random list.

    • @EZScape
      @EZScape  8 лет назад +1

      Johan difficulty is subjective, so it was very hard to decide on this list. I decided to pick which in my opinion was the most difficult platformer instead of just choosing platformers. If I wanted to do that I would have just made top 10 most difficult platform speedruns or something. I could have just selected game genres, too, but I decided to do that with game choice and choosing the more difficult games in that genre. Obviously even then there might be a game that's more difficult in the genre I chose, but there isn't really any way for me to know that unless I play all those games at top level, so I went based on what other people said during my research.

    I feel like the windwaker SD is a very underrated speed game, it has hundreds of frame perfect storage tricks and so many ways to mess up and lose minutes of time, it's so stressful and you also need to be able to zombie hover which isn't even something you can learn it's an actual skill you have to develop

    I was surprised Metroid Prime didn't appear on this list. The fact you need to memorize nearly every room in the game to scan dash effectively is a huge challenge alone.

    F-Zero GX on Very Hard is the most impressive speed run. 25 minutes of absolutely perfect execution, some of which relies on just a few frames of actions (F-Zero is also one of the few Gamecube games that runs at 60 fps, making it that much harder)

    I think this video is great, but I believe you may have missed the ultimate speedrun: The 602 star run; This run is a speedrun which 1 PERSON plays super mario 64, super mario sunshine, super mario galaxy, and super mario galaxy 2 consecutively. This run lasts about 21 hours.

    I was going to guess #1 was going to be an F-Zero series game, not just because the regular game is not casual friendly, but because the tricks involved in speedrunning the game are unreal difficult, as they have been described in speedruns

    I totally agree that these games are difficult. I'm a fps speedrunner and I must say that a game like half life 1 should be in this list, where the competition is extremely difficult and the runners have insane amount of experience from different fps games put into those runs. FPS games are sort if impossible to get even near perfect so I find those very fascinating.

    I know I'm not the first to say it, but you need to include "i wanna kill the kamilia 3 100%", the game by itself is insanely hard with around 95/100 difficulty with the secrets, I think it's the hardest fangame that has a speedrun of it. A casual playthrough needs at least 400 hours and you have to be REALLY skilled, because it took me around 5 hours to do the first screen (I know it was a bad idea to try it, lol). There is only 1 man who has finished a 100% speedrun of the game. (Note: A new update to the game is comming.)

    I think Dark Souls has a strong argument to be on this list, if you're using the most optimized routes. They have lots of near-perfect tech (most of which are also at perfect angles) such as the Ceaseless skip, Duke skip, and recently discovered Sens' skip. You have pretty much zero room for mistakes (for example, in the Black Knight Halberd route, you have to run through a p. hard area to climb a ladder, then make a fall that will either kill you, or leave you with almost zero health), so if you get hit once or make a single mistake, the run is pretty much doomed. Combine that with the terrible RNG (the main All Bosses route requires an incredibly rare drop early in the run) and the fact that the game is basically impossible to run on anything but a controller (which only adds to the difficulty of the frame/angle perfect skips) make it certainly harder than games like Super Monkey Ball imo. Haven't played through most of these games, so I could be wrong, but I definitely think Dark Souls deserves a mention.
    Kiln skip is certainly easier, as you can skip most of the major difficulty points such as the Ceaseless, Firesage, and Duke skips. All bosses or any% no kiln skip are certainly up there tho.

    half-life any% unscripted on WON (original disk version) is super hard to get a sub-35 minute time in. There's a TON of glitches that you have to take advantage of, and health and ammo management. One slip in either could cost you the run. The most difficult glitch in the run comes in the last 15 minutes of the run, and since it's unscripted, all the bhopping has to be done with scroll wheel. it's not as hard as most of the games here, but it's very difficult regardless

    So, I speedrun Undertale any% and it's pretty hard, a lot of the skips used are pixel perfect a few are wrong warps (which teleports you a little farther or to the end of the new room you're entering) which requires you to open the menu and use the Punch Card you can easily softlock if you don't close the punch card at the right time and if you fail one of the many pixel perfect skips to skip a trigger and you land on the trigger what the trigger does will happen, if you practice the skips you can still easily fail the skip, but we do a frame perfect skip, but it's easier with the linux version.

  • @dirtylinny3279

    >no half life
    -frame perfect bhops have to be consistent
    -monitoring hp and only picking up hp you need leading to low hp runs which result in a fuckload of resets especially during On A Rail
    -rng due to the npcs not always opening doors or responding properly, one npc fuckup ends an entire run
    -using nades to distract npcs so you dont get shot
