I'd say that'd be a more responsible use of their uhhh... "talents". I honestly don't know how they have the time to watch all these runs, let alone with such an eye for detail they'd see this sort of thing.

Sinking hundreds of hours of grinding into a single level only to get pipped by someone else, feelsbadman. I think he might've been having personal problems at the time too. He owned up to faking after only a week (can't remember if he was caught or just came clean though) so he's at least taking responsibility.

      Katja Senpai
Go to his YT channel: RWhiteGoose. He has two (long) videos in which he addresses the subject: one about the history of cheating at The Elite and one about the "lore" of the Frigate level (both fantastic videos). He's right that, at the time, proof moderation was a shitshow, and he was fighting for better standards even at that time, but I don't believe those were his primary reasons for cheating. He was just being a drama queen.
That said, this all happened 11 years ago when he was still a teenager, it was only one time (unlike Henning), and he owned up to it shortly after. Everyone did dumb shit when they were a teenager, but if you judge him as the man he is now you'll see he's a good guy.

A few weeks later he legitimately hit that same score. He was surprised at how much better it felt when he actually hit this score only this time he couldn't brag he had to keep it to himself since he already lied about it. That story always stuck with me. And since he told me that the idea of cheating just seems silly. These are games were talking about and you play them to achieve personal goals. I still play the old CoDs every now and then and see them a lot, and this is the reason they seem to have, as a form of dumb trolling. There was a video I watched where a speedrunner showed how he thinks when he plays a game. A lot of speedrunners (or at least, the ones watching record runs and participating in the communities) watch people playing games frame-by-frame paying attention to the smallest details because that's the way they play their games for their speedruns. If something doesn't seem right, they pick it up and can determine what's wrong pretty quickly while the average non speedrunner wouldn't realize something was amiss.
      That's my theory anyway.

@@quintoncameron4725 well, when I started playing multiplayer games back in the 90s, I found out I wasn't as good as I thought I would be against real people. I've written, as a journalist, on the problem of MMO games - when all are exceptional, nobody really is.
It is hard to be faced with the prospect of never being the best in a field, especially when you're this close. So people either do it the hard way - "git good" - or take a shortcut: fake it.

IIRC he didn't cheat to prove a point (though he did think the proof standards sucked), he cheated because he'd sunk so many hours into the level and felt he "earned" the record (knowing he COULD get it despite never ACTUALLY getting it). I think the problem with cheaters is that they excel at nothing. Think about it, you don't cheat because you know it's wrong, but also because you probably have that one good thing that you are amazing at that people know you do really well. There is no pull for you to lose your reputation by risking it all because you like the reputation you have already. Cheaters don't have any of that, so they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Really opening our eyes to just how many people are taking shortcuts to take the satisfaction and pleasure from all those who spend countless, countless years of their life devoting to a speed run testing skills, muscle memory and frame perfect movements 100% of the time. A good example is the Super Mario 64 speed runs, both visual and blindfolded attempts. Good on ya Apollo Legend, for a first time viewer, this video was very enticing and entertaining nonetheless!!

What are you talking about? An honest mistake is like leaving the keys in the car, or bumping into somebody on a crowded street or misspelling a word in an email. You can make bad decisions by accident, with no bad intent, hence the addition word 'honest'. This was not that.

He talks about this on his stream and in his frigate speedlore episode. He doesn't say the devil's advocate thing there, I think that was saving some face. In that episode he just says he was young, immature and felt entitled to a record so he just did it. Goose is not a bad guy
