There's just no point in cheating in speedrunning. It doesn't get anywhere, and it doesn't give you the satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment that you truly want. Cheating also just gives you hate and suspicion from other communities

Quick note on Lee: the run with Trihex and Carl Sagan in the background is different than the one with the handcam. In the former, Carl asked Lee to crouch during an autoscroll section to verify it wasn't prerecorded, which Lee did not do. That's what led to increased speculation as to whether or not he cheated, at which point it was discovered that his handcam did not line up in other runs he had done.

If I were that guy with the TAS footage, I would slowly begin messing with them and finally reveal that the whole thing was a fake. It would save his reputation rather than trying to play it off like it was real.
The Mario 64 one is so sad especially since the guy refused to do anything that would give actual proof to him being able to prove he can't see like playing it backwards or with a thicker blindfold on his face. As well as simple flips a actual Mario 64 speed runner commentted on Charlie Browns video confirming everything he saw the guy do in the video was fake

The sound will still come out of the left or right headphone no matter what way you’re facing
For me, they need to not only be blindfolded but have acid thrown in their eyes prior to the run to make seeing anything literally impossible.
