I have Eden Brothers saffrons growing right now (since mid-Sep) and I had no idea what I was doing when I planted them. I did everything wrong. Plus, animals kept digging them up over and over. Despite their rough starts in life, they are doing pretty well. I planted 10 bulbs. 9 are growing. I have 19 young saffrons right now. 1 bulb rotted. I learned some lessons and when I re-plant next year I will do much better.

I am growing Eden Bro saffron now, I got 20 corms that I planted this fall, ended up having 21 plants pop up, and got to harvest about 10 flowers this season. Smells like honey, so divine.

To prevent watering them for 6 to 8 weeks, do we need to bring them indoors every time it rains?

good question, my guess is yes since rain would water them

Everything I have read says saffron grows and blooms in the fall & early winter. I have grown them (this will be my 3rd season with the same bulbs) and that's when they bloom. I harvest in early winter.
Since you don't show them growing, I suggest you re-do your video and learn more about saffron crocus (not crocus saffron).

Last oct was the first season for the 25 crocus sativus bulbs and no flowers appeared , I left them in the pots in the summer without watering … this year I took the bulbs out of the pots to find them multiplied . Now I repotted them and today I found that all pots are showing the green shoots . Still time will tell if I see any flowers .

Agree! mine bloom after everything else and flowers have died. It is early Fall when it is very cold out! I go and pick the saffron stems out over a period of a week as each of the flowers open! So fun. then lay them out to dry on a paper towel before storing !.

You don't water 6-8 wks., after planting? Don't they need water to "germinate"?

you said plant 3 inches apart, looks like you planted 5 inches apart. Also I thought they could be grown and be a prennial zones 4-10, you said bring indoors even zone 8. I believe I am a tad confused!

    Hello Eden Brothers,
I live in adelaide. I had planted 9 bulbs on 4th may 2024 in well drained soil. I have given little spraying of water every 5 days. Now it had grown green sticks about height of 3 inches. Will it give flowers of saffron and when ? Am i making any mistakes ? Since 4th may weather is between 23° to 6°. How can i send you pics via youtube ?

Can I plant my saffron crocus bulbs in a bed of well-established hyacinth bulbs? As a layered bulb bed? I am not experienced with the unusual spring leaf-out yet fall bloom of the saffron crocus. I'm not sure if the saffron crocus will be adversely affected by the underlying hyacinth.

We live in South Dakota. So when we plant ours next year can we grow spring summer and fall? And when you harvest the saffron flower do they regrow? I am so ready and eager to keep learning about these wonderful flowers! ❤

I have to say videos like these are not helpful at all! Anyone can do that! If you want to show us you did it correctly, then show the plants growing and blooming as well. For me this was a failed experience, reason why you did not show it blooming or flowering, instead you used pictures.

Dude. What a rude comment. These gentle people gave a complete and thorough explanation of how to plant this bulb that I found very helpful. If I wanted to see pictures of the plant I would search for that.
I’m looking forward to seeing if they continue the series with care, maintenance and harvesting.
