    Not sure if you'll see this being a year after video, and I'm sure others have mentioned but using heating pads underneath the planters will keep soil at the right temperature. They make heating pads specifically for indoor planting. Hope this helps! There's a lot to learn in failing, believe me, iI know! Don't give up!

    So, I know this is an old video, but my two cents. Check your water PPM, and the PH. That balance is absolutely necessary for hydroponic growth of any type. This is especially true in the case of Kratky. You need to leave room from the base of the root to the root tips for airflow, so don't overfill the tank. If you're getting murky water you can try using a pump to move the water, or even a simple device toy move the water. Bad growth doesn't much like moving water. If you do get surface fungi you can use a 3% mix of hydrogen peroxide, but don't put that in your water tanks, since it can burn the roots over a long period of time. Check the growth needs for crocus then for boosting saffron. Like tomatoes many plants like one PH at the beginning, then want a different PFR during fruiting. Tomatoes like a fairly benign soil at first, then like acidic soil for fruiting. For you lights you can get incredibly inexpensive lights in LED as long as they are about 5000k and 6000 Lumens. LEDs are great because they cost less, produce little to no heat, cost almost nothing on your electric bill, so they won't burn the product even if the leaves are touching the light, they reduce costs, and they are fine for growing. Also don't fall for the light scale scam. Using different color or wavelengths of light ie. ultra violet light only really changes the color of the leaves for the most part. The light scale was a poorly run experiment that rendered no real usable data. There are ways to get rid of stagnating water, and water your soil based plants perfectly every time. Using a water flow system and a trough with a wicking connection can create a water basin that only fills when the water is too low using the same simple technology as a toilet. A plunger arm connected to a valve in a water gutter to control when the water refills, then place your soil on top. As the plant feeds and the water evaporates or is reduced in the soil the water is then refed to the trough/gutter. There are a ton of videos I can suggest you check out that will help you out. I'm happy to help if you want? I guess if anyone does become interested just post a reply and I'll try to get back to ya.

    In fact, just because a product is expensive does not mean that you will earn more than it. especially with a newly developing and different production method such as indoor vertical farming. I have been working on this subject for a long time and I want to have a indoor vertical farming business in the future, I suggest you grow basil.

      Basil is so easy to grow and so useful. I practically neglect mine and put in the dimmest part of the grow room but they're happy.

    You need some air pumps/bubblers in your hydro containers. Adding oxygen to your solution is important. Also grow lights would be a huge advantage. If you can’t afford grow lights at least purchase grow bulbs for your fluorescent light. I’m no expert at growing saffron, however i know a great deal about growing the lettuce that you were talking about lol. There’s also many other hydroponic fertilizers that my do your flowers better than flora gro. Also, consider getting a roll of panda film or clear plastic and create a room to contain some heat and boost humidity. But if I’m not mistaken saffron prefers cooler temps later in life, so a colder basement could have been helpful in telling the plants that the season has changed and to prepare for harvest. Sorry they crashed on you. You’ll get it.

    • @gumbyElvis
      @gumbyElvis 2 месяца назад

      Kratky doesn't require pumps.

    • @christophersextonsr8788
      @christophersextonsr8788 Месяц назад

      No need for either as long as a portion of the roots can draw air. Air bubblers don't do much good unless it's pure hydroponic with no air. Pumps help with stagnate water and moving water from a base to the system.

    as far as i know these plants need temps below 10 degree celsius and about 90% humidity . these plants generally grow in the places like kasmir in india.

    If you don’t have dyes or anything organic in your hydroponic nutrients, the roots are likely brown due to root rot. You can get something called Hydrogaurd that can help fix it. On top of temp, pH is something you also need to consider. Did you have a way to check on that? Or the TDS to make sure you weren’t overfeeding it? Also, big agreement with the sleep. Plants from sleeping in complete darkness.

    I am planting some saffron crocus bulbs indoors this week. I have the regular crocus bulbs out in my yard, but we get a good freeze in the winter... using potting soil and those cheap stackable 3 pot in one things from dollar tree. I have around 40 bulbs planted so far. The rest I'm going to do a few experiments with to see if anything is easier or better for my place....

  • @johanlarsson9805

    You are doing it slightly wrong...
    Dormant bulbs can just be left out bare on a tray. Cold and dry, with a grow light, and they will produce saffron flowers with the spice after 3-4 weeks.
    After harvest they need to be planted that is the time when you can grow them under soil or in another media with hydroponics. During this time the bulbs will create additional bulbs.
    After that, they need to be dormant again.
    Dormant bulbs can be left out on bare on a tray.... etc.

  • @tooraj
    @tooraj Год назад +9

    Saffron is not like normal plants and you tried to grow to it like a normal plant! Saffron has a flowering stage and a propagation stage. You can just leave the bulbs on a shelf in 80% humidity and 25 deg celsius room and they will flower. After flowering, you can put them in the soil or substrate to grow leaves and to propagate when the bulb gives birth to two new bulbs. You basically went straight to the propagation stage and skipped the flowering.

    When it gets too cold in the grow room and the roots are too wet, it's a huge problem, but ESPECIALLY when there's not enough intense light for photosynthesis. The plant won't have the solar or thermal energy to function properly (remember, lights not only provide visible electromagnetism but also the heat plants need, warming up your room!)....... The root rot issue is common with cacti too, and anything other plant for that matter when taken to the cold temperature extremes with too much water in the root zone.
    You can gather a lot of insight from looking at other extreme examples. For example, if you have a particularly hot grow room like I do, you can really dump water on your plants and they won't seem to mind. By the next day, you might even find that you have to water again already because of how fast the plants draw water to keep up with transpiration from their leaves. Cool the room down by 20 degrees and I know I couldn't water every single day like that...

    Hydroponics usually grows faster, but saffron is not the usual plant. They actually like bone-dry conditions in winter and need no water. They don't put out growth until Fall in their natural environment and that growth dies off just before summer (weird).

  • @Chris-go2iz

    Have you considered changing your dosing based on the hydro farm you visited and just sticking to an A and B solution? I agree with the other person who said you should add aeration. If you're going to stick with kratky, try adding a couple small air stones to your setup. Good Luck!

    I saw a video that said the saffron crocus bulbs needed several months of hot and dry weather in order to produce the flowers. Maybe hydroponics isn't a good method for Saffron Crocus bulbs.

  • @Nessy-of-the-Lynn
    @Nessy-of-the-Lynn 10 месяцев назад +1

    Too much water. Saffron needs dry and sandy or loamy soil. It only needs some water during production, and no water in between. I do not think you can grow these hydroponically without incurring root rot like you saw with the yellowing plants. They are more of a cool loving, yet desert like plant and need to be drip irrigated.

    Aquaponics...raise goldfish (or ciclids since indoors); pump water through a waterfall into plant containers to add oxygen naturally. plants will eat up/filter the water for your fish...all will be happy. 8)
