Thanks for keeping me inspired, you have no idea how much of a positive impact your videos can make in someone’s life. Today, I became 54 years old. It's 36 degrees here in Adelaide. I've got the day off work. I used to own a 205 GTI 1.6 on a G plate. (Best car I ever had) When I sat down today on my RUclips throne, the beanbag and saw this weeks episode it made me feel 19 again. Hells yeah, this stuff is epic.
Well, just going to say before I'm even 30 seconds in that this is going to be absolutely awesome. 10:07AM here in Alberta, it's slow at work and my desk is in the back far away from everyone, thanks for making the next hour or so tolerable!!
ooooh you guys didn't get the 205 over that side of the pond right? In Europe these were loved as fast reving engines, handling like a god and light as a feather
Fabulous! What a find! It's also now one of the oldest 205 Gti's still in existence with it being a late 1984 car. Very much looking forward to seeing further adventures with it 👍👍
Unfortunately it's not a GTI..probably a dressed up XS shell..several tell tale signs..most noticeable.wrong dashboard, wrong wing mirrors, rear arch mountings missing..😮
Mate your channel is a finding of the new year of 2025. Was watching only US car revival guys before, but seeing same theme in the UK is something. Keep it going!
Another great vid but find it so sad when people turn these lovely classic cars into rally cars best way keep these timeless classics as standard as possible
Oh, so great. 205's hold a very special place in my heart as well. My mum had a diesel 205 when I was learning to drive, so it was one of the cars I practiced in (along with whatever dads car at the time was, I suspect the diesel 305, but that was a rare drive for me).
My heart goes out to you Ben, rooting around the engine and underneath of a car, in the freezing cold weather, whilst I’m sat with the central heating on watching you working in the cold. That’s probably why I became a secretary and not a mechanic 😊😊😂😂❤
I'm glad you've done a 205 - nice. We didn't own a car when I was young, but my dad would always hire a 205 when we'd visit family during the holidays. Good memories.
Back in the day I missed the 205 thing - I was a fast Ford and Vauxhall guy controversially! I nearly bought an 86 1.6 in Silver but in the end my pal who had just couldn't let it go..... always admired them from a far - great bit of fun this will be when it's a tad warmer! Great find!
Long time lurker from up the road (St Asaph) here - loved this one! This channel has become one of my weekly highlights and im not really even a car guy!
Awesome! Love the vintage rally car content 🙂I noticed at 17:49 one of the three studs on the passenger side strut mounting is either missing or snapped off.
love these videos, I know absolutely nothing about cars but am interested in them all the same. Don't know why but all of your recent videos have satisfied an itch in my brain. Looking forward to seeing the channel growth you deserve
What a find that ain’t then! Well done mukka. Worth every penny you spent. That’s got to be a keeper isn’t it? You can have a lot fun with that beauty. I must mention this: I do admire your tenacity and endurance, where most would have thrown the towel in long before. The Jag episodes have confirmed how true my last statement was. Great viewing cheers buddy. Wishing you and your family a very happy and prosperous new year. 🫡
@officialmysteriousrider6327 could even be video content, I'd watch that gladly. You just know Ben's got the fabrication skills for sure. That old Austin 1100 would have made brilliant barbecue.
When I was working in heron St asaph (N.WALES) peugeot/talbot garage on the yts. They had the new Peugeot 405 launch, and they had ARI VATANEN'S GROUP B 205 RALLY CAR there in the back yard and we had to push it to the front showroom.......no keys!!!!!. So no pics as no mobile phones then at the time. I didn't go to the launch party. In the back yard you could not move for 405 cars every where, and now you rarely see them. The peugeot 205gti has a lovely engine sound, just like a 2.8i capri. I'm 55 now........wish I could go back to the eighties. Really enjoy this video. On a B reg as well......... cool
An awesome car. I had to sell my 205 GTi 1.9 a couple of years ago and regret it to this day. Look forward to seeing developments on this one. Excellent as always Ben
Dampness - guessing when you filmed this over the past few days, if it was last weekend when there was a warm spell following on from the first cold snap/snow. As a result the relatively warm moisture-laiden air will condense on the cold engine block. So it's not water ingress inside the shed. Cheers Ben, keep up the good work
Had the 1.9gti in red on an E plate. Had so much fun in it back in early 90s. Chipped (mapped) by previous owner, stuck to corners like cats vomit. Good old days
surely this one’s a keeper! Don’t sell it!!!!! I’ve been watching since december last year and i’ve absolutely loved every video. I have to subscribe to your patreon once i have a bit more money. 17 year old’s minimum wage isn’t great 😅 You deserve it! Thank you for another amazing video!!
106 XL, Rallye & GTI, 306 XSD (I think), I loved them all, and that is my 20s in an nutshell. She is an absolutely belter, and as soon as you opened up at 5,000rpm, that cam at chat was glorious. Smart decision on keeping it for the summer, those carbs need some TLC and the twin choke. Setting them up right will bring that car to life.
Nice find at a VERY reasonable price and sounds so good! But I would never have picked you as a Peugeot fanboy! Judging from some of your videos, it sounds like you really need a specially prepared "recovery bugout kit". Something that is SO sacred, you NEVER raid it for tools/odd parts while you are in the workshop. And multimeters are cheap enough nowadays to always have 2 or 3 around!
It's actually really tidy looking, you could argue that its time as a rallye car is the reason its survived that well. Good on you mate, another victory. Proud of you 👍🏻
I had the rare 205 DTurbo, 3dr in flame red. Lovely! Put 90k miles on it very happily. Only got rid because I cracked the block. Still exists somewhere. 🙂
I use to have a bog standard 309 and it was the best fun car we had. Same front end looks and age 😂 A builder was pebble dashing the outside of the house and a splodge ended up stuck on the front wing. I left it on and was driving all over with it still there for years 😂❤
Love this, loved my 205 1.6 GTI, aside from the "standard options" already mentioned you are on a positive already. You have more trim than I had after leaving mine in a car park on a Saturday afternoon in Bedford ! Getting the popcorn ready to watch...
Amazing work and car Ben. My favourite RUclips channel at the moment and don’t see why that would change! Inspired me to buy a cheap project car for the first time and it’s sat on the drive now waiting to sit on axle stands for some time 😂 PS missing or snapped bolt on the top mount passenger front!

An intermittent Battery light is a faulty/dying alternator. I had this issue also on my bmw E39. You will see on a multimeter/diagnosis tool you monitor it on for a while that it will over and under charge, mine would only happen after like 10mins of running and the light will come on for a second and go away. It was like this for weeks and when I checked with a multimeter it was fine, but I checked for like 30 seconds. Suddenly I had ABS cut out and transmission intermittently, anyway turns out it was the alternator. thank you for all the amazing work and video.
