I was fortunate enough to purchase a 3B back in the fall of 2022. It's tagged, titled and very road worthy. I finally got my wife to ride in it with me several times. She finally said it looks nice and she enjoys riding along with our German Shepherd. Life is gud. Thanks for sharing the video, RT
I know this was several years ago, but I just watched it for the first time (I'm a subscriber). It brought back some fond memories. Back about 2002, my son and I re-built a 3B from the ground up. We made a few changes that I think were worthwhile improvements. This was during the early years of the Internet, so Google was pretty much a new idea. I found that the front brake brackets, calipers, and rotors from an early 1970s Chevy Blazer (Dana44) would bolt right onto the Dana axles of the 3B, the only adjustment being a spacer about 3/16" thick to center the rotors in the calipers. I got the pedal cluster, including the mounting plate, from a mid-90s Jeep Cherokee and bolted it to the firewall to get rid of the through-the-floor original pedals. I also took the clutch master and slave cylinders and mounted the slave under the floorboard in place of the original master cylinder - easy, peasy. I believe I bought a dual reservoir brake master cylinder and proportioning valve from Summit Racing (or some similar company) and mounted that to the Cherokee pedal assembly on the firewall. This was all road-legal, due to the original parking brake being mounted on the output driveshaft on the transfer case. We had a full 6-point roll cage built on it, a 4" lift, mid-90s seats from a Wrangler, and ran 33" tires. Man, that thing could climb a tree! We always said it took awhile to get up to top speed, but it would stop on a dime! Lots of fun.
Old timers always called the 3B’s “high-hoods.” It’s funny, nobody seemed to want them compared to 2A’s and 3A’s. Now they’re a rare collectible. Nobody really appreciated the F-head, but it was a big improvement from the L-head. I think a 3B is a cooler setup than an early CJ5 anyway. I wish Willys/Kaiser would have kept the fenders and hoods flat. Thanks for taking it back to “original.” I dig this setup and look forward to more of your videos. Subscribed!
Thanks! I like all the flat fenders, too, I really don't care for the "funny fender" CJ-5's and up. Soon I'm going to do a F-head in a 2A without cutting a hole in the hood. I've got the stubby carb needed already sitting on my workbench...
Just came across your videos today. Great stuff. I've been tinkering on 2 projects for years now. A 43 GPW and a 64 cj3b. Both run but only 1 drives... Keep the old jeep videos coming 👍. Got some inspiration to get out there and wrench some more. Thanks 😊
Thanks! You've got two good ones, I love the old military grill, and the extra legroom of the high hood. I've got some more stuff coming, working on the rustiest F-head in the world tonight...
You are the luckiest guy I’ve seen so far to get such a great Jeep ! They have become a rich man’s toy … they cost way to much for my old timers wallet ..lol I’m still hopeful some day I’ll be as lucky … lol
Such a great channel! Can people comment more on using starters from different engines? Is this more common that we think or do people overlook the possibility? Very very very very cool!
I picked up a flathead 4 Willys engine, transmission, transfer case. I did see an old CJ 2 without motor, but passed it up..Should have bought it! But I have several Jeep projects, and a rough 33 Studebaker, just no time....
F head is semi flat head with the exhaust valve still in the block. I run one in a 54 3b with a 40mm gt2252 turbo and blow through Rochester duel jet. It isn't very powerful but it easily out runs the healthy 225 dauntless in my 69 cj5.
Great video - you have amazing mechanical talent, know-how, and ingenuity! You have a cool channel that will grow for sure. Question - is it the camera lens playing tricks on my eyes or are the tires different sizes between the front and the rear?
Thanks, I sure appreciate that! Yes, they were different sizes, I just threw on anything I had that held air for the first real drive. Sometimes you just gotta take it for a spin!
I used a Pure Energy 16224, for a 65-82 Toyota Land Cruiser. I've heard that the mid-80's Land Cruiser uses the same bolt pattern and gear, but are a gear reduction version. They are more expensive, though.
Yeah, they just seem to multiply! Right now I'm picking up the last trailer full of parts for a J-10 project that's arriving in two trailers and a pickup full of parts.
The direct drive starter is for a '65-'82 land cruiser, the gear reduction one is '83-'92. I've used both with no problems. I've had them with the F-head 129 tooth ring gear, which is the one found on CJ-3B, 5, 6, M38A1, FC-150 and others.
Most parts between different brands are not inter changable. I cannot even start too think on how too go about finding a starter that is for a 40 year newer different brand 4x4 that would work. Must of just started looking at catalogs for something similar. In this case maybe online catalog
Nothing more satisfying than seeing an old Jeep back to life

@@LowBuckGarage that would be a fun build!
I agree. Much rather see an F134 go in it than another LS swap! Nothing against updating but nice to see some kept somewhat original!
Good job, Low Buck! I too love putting mechanical puzzles together. I also love the poor job you do! And I love your poor videos, all the time!
Hi , good job ,you have a great little Jeep for a reasonable amount of money .

That thing is beautiful!!!!
Thank you for this great video. Just stumbled upon your channel and am now subscribed. I love your shop!
That there was one relatively easy engine replacement, congratulations it sounds awesome and looks great 👍☮️
Thanks 👍
I liked the starter idea.
You are the luckiest guy I’ve seen so far to get such a great Jeep ! They have become a rich man’s toy … they cost way to much for my old timers wallet ..lol I’m still hopeful some day I’ll be as lucky … lol
Good work! u deserve way more subs man.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Excellent !!! What a fun little project, and great work arounds too on the starter etc.
Thanks!
Smart to do all that stuff before putting the engine back in. I use a very similar Radiator in my 1953. Just Subbed!
Those old Jeeps are so awesome, and they just work... unlike the newer Jeeps. Or what call, Cheeps!😂
Nevermind the fact he had to fix a bunch on this 😂
Terrific video and nice save. Also like the reamer trick! Tinkering with a 49 CJ3a. Well see if I have the same success!
Thanks, and good luck!
New subscriber. Enjoying the content.
Yep this one is my favorite!!!!

Toyota Starter? So Badass!
U are the reamer of holes and redeemer of souls
This was my first vehicle in the late 70's. But not in as good of shape as this one.

good eye
You can do re-enactments of the Cade's County introduction with that!
Love it.
Jeep back in action...good job! Just how I like it cheap, innovative, (like MacGyver) only no SAK ...? Lol! Good job!
Thanks! 👍
you are BRILLANT!
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
Where and what model details on the radiator.? How’s it been holding up after 4 yrs?
simple awesome!!
Keeping it real
6:22 smoky wire? bad connection?

Do you have a part number for the Toyota starter?

This looks such fun… & easy (but i guess it is not) ☺️
You have plural Jeep! Cool!!

@@LowBuckGarage Sounds like the old days with my Dad. Fun stuff everywhere.
What did they cost each?
How did you know exactly toyota starter gear match with jeep flywheel gear?
I had heard about that trick years back when building a FC-150, and it worked great. I think I heard it from a message board or something like that.
Which year/model of land cruiser starter works? I'm guessing you need a specific tooth count on the cj ring gear? Thanks, in advance.

Can you tell me what radiator you used as I need one also. Thanks
It was from ebay, DH Racing Parts CU4964 DPI4964. Said that it fit "Jeep Willys 1949-1964 / CJ3 CJ5 CJ6 DJ3 1950-1958". Good luck with your project!
Great contant

Will you help me buy a Willys Jeep to restore??
It's called "Low Buck Garage" but you did not tell us how much the radiator cost!!!
I’m assuming you must be 6’4” or taller? Jeep looks 3/4 size 😁
I'm average size, those old Jeeps are just tiny!

3:00 you're pulling on that Crescent backwards..
Had a high-top, they don't turn very sharp.
couldn't care less about jeep.
you make a good video though. :)
stands to reason the starter fits,,seeing toyotas are jeep knock offs.. nissan are landrover knock offs..
