might be late but do you think going to a specific collage for graphic design matters? I want to go to Chapman but when I see the percentage i wonder if it’ll be enough? Probably just me I’m worried tho..is it bigger than it looks?
Graphic design is so stressful yet it’s the best decision I made, I graduated back in 2016 I worked in an advertising agency, and now I’m working in a financing company designing for their advertising and social media ... graphic design will open up so much opportunity like you said you could even work at home or start your own business 💜 good luck with your last month at uni ;*
suddenly feeling nostalgic?? i’ve been following you even before you entered college and now you’re graduating and you’ve grown so much over the years im so proud of you! thanks for sharing your story with us

my stepdad was a graphic designer and i have the fondest memories of watching him work. i've been thinking about my future more lately and i've really been considering graphic design. thank u for this!! ⭐️
What I love about this is that, in any design major (graphic, architecture, fashion, product), you'll find similar techniques learned. I'm currently studying architecture, my sister - graphic, and one of my roommates - fashion. I love the universal language we all share as designers, which is really special. And yes, it is indeed hard work, but like what you said, if you love what you're doing and are passionate about it (about anything) then that part doesn't matter so much! Thank you for sharing your experience :)
yep many disciplines share a lot of qualities...'contrast, form/formgiving, color, texture, line quality, negative space, balance, symmetrical, asymmetrical' ... 'all nighters, caffeine, competition with classmates'...'photoshop, illustrator, adobe cc'...too much to list.
gosh i remember back in high school when nothing was decided yet, watching your design videos made me so excited about college - now i’m a rising junior pursuing my degree in design and resonate so much with all that you’ve said !! thanks for being here for us and serving as a great example for us design bbs ❤️🌹✨
I’m interested in majoring graphic design in unlv, and i’m glad I’m able to get some idea on what being a graphic design student will be like!! Thank you
This video has really helped! I feel more and more confident about what major I want to do in college, and it helps that I’m doing classes to help me with it! I’m in love with you and your videos Lindsey! ❤️
Hmmm... I'm gonna have to say CSULB and SJSU are the top design programs in the California State University system. BTW... for a printed/physical portfolio, I WOULD NOT use a Itoya portfolio. get a Pina Zangaro or Case Envy (by Lost Luggage). They're clean, minimal, tactile and have a professional appearance.
I’m beginning college in the fall as a graphic design/marketing major, and I’m really worried because I didn’t take any art classes through high school. I’ve drawn and created on my own and always loved art and crafty projects, and I was super involved in yearbook layout design this year, but I am fearing that my lack of technical skills is going to be an issue. Any tips for what I can do until then to improve?
*i'm majoring in microbiology but full ready to jump to digital design. crazy? yes. following what my heart wants? yes* *one question; can a graphic designer make an awesome living just by being a freelancer? and is it like being an independant freelancer or you'd work for a company as a freelancer? also, i would loooove to see you make a video about your portfolio and helps us fellows out here who need some tips about how to present our portfolios. personally i learned how to use ps cc just for fun, and adobe premier pro too so my portfolio could be okay but still* :( thank you! ❤
Not sure why I'm watching this because I'm almost finished my grad degree in museum studies, but I just enjoy watching your videos 😂 Interestingly, there was a graphic design major in my program. Graphic designers are always needed in the museum field to design exhibit panels, etc. Congrats on almost finishing your degree!
Great video! I'm just starting my new graphics design journey at LCAD. I start soon and I'm going to try and document my experience in school! Your video was very helpful in wondering what is up next for designers. Thank you!
mina hey i was a neuroscience major with a graphic design minor and just switched to a double major in public relations and graphic design. If you have other questions feel free to ask :))
Lol, try 4 hrs 3 times a week for 1 class... a studio class. I'm studying architectural design though! Same design processes which I think is cool. My sister is studying graphic design as well! Fun stuff :)
all studio art classes demand a shit ton of hours(graphic design, industrial design, fashion design). I'm no illustrator, but I'm convinced that illustrators and animation majors spend THE MOST amount of studio hours.
I love your videos! As a graphic design student myself, your videos are so so helpful. I’d love to hear what places you go to/went to online for help or tutorials or anything like that. Obviously RUclips for tutorials but I find that some of them arent in depth enough!
I'm going to immigrate and study graphic design but I have no clue about it actually and I'm really stressed about not knowing about drawing I hope I can learn everything in the university :)) Loved your video Thankssss

I loved this video! I will be starting my major in design this fall as a freshman in college and I was totally inspired by you to look into graphic design. I’m really excited to learn about it get my degree in college. 💓 One question I had was where did you get your iPad case ?
Love this video Lindsey! So cool to see what other graphic design programs are like and great advice for anyone who might be wanting to go to school for it. Sounds like our programs are really similar! I'm taking a Bachelor of Design near Toronto, Canada :) Good luck with your last month!
I wanna do graphic design but I'm not good at drawing at all. Im good at taking and editing photos though. Should I still do graphic design even though I'm not good at drawing?
thank you so much for this! I’m only a sophomore in high school, but I’m interested in majoring in graphic design later on. definitely need to start creating a portfolio tho! are the act, sat, your gpa, etc super important when applying to design school or do they focus more on your portfolio?
I'm know how to work with photoshop or other programs as I have a good amount of experience with it at school (yearbook, design for graduation gifts, etc) but I literally have 0 skills in drawing. I don't know if graphic design is the right choice for me. Any advice??
Aaaaa super duper extremely late, but would you recommend any specific classes to take in high school. I'm mostly in preforming arts, like band and choir, but I wanted to ask anyway!

Graphic design is mostly print based (brochures, branding, icons, logos, but also static digital design like banners, social media graphics, and web design). Visual design is mostly digital design and does more high level design/branding (UI, sometimes UX, icons, illustration, some motion design...they can sometimes even work on UI for apps). a lot of graphic design majors choose to minor in marketing, pr & ad, business, etc. or major in the latter and minor in GD! All great options.

After graduating with Graphic Design, how would you find a job?

Ok this goes for anyone who can answer this:
I can’t decide between majoring in either graphic design or industrial design (which is basically product design). i love drawing, creating and art and I initially looked into graphic design, but my top worry is that the graphic design industry is SO crowded that you have to REALLY stand out if you want to be successful, which is why I’m leaning towards industrial design. Thoughts ?
industrial design graduate here! i would say to go with what you want to do in the long run - you do learn a bit of graphic design while studying ID as you need to know it well for presentation layouts, portfolio, projects, etc.
the GD realm is super saturated, but there's a ton of GD firms or related design firms out there as a result. that also means you can really find a sweet company that you can grow at. for ID, it can be hard to find decent firms that strictly do ID (it ultimately comes down to where you live and where you wanna work!) i am from Toronto and it's quite hard to find jobs at ID firms and many people end up doing off-brand ID stuff like CAD work, manual labour jobs, etc.
i would say to do graphic design if that's what you want to do. ID is so immensely tough so it's not for the faint of heart. but look into schools, options for interning, cities with great firms, and talk to alumni from schools that you're interested in. hope that helps!
Sorry, but industrial design IS NOT product design. If you say that in your interview in a Silicon Valley startup or any company that has a product or app, YOU WILL fail.
CSULB is the number 1. #goBeach
what minors would help your career with graphic design??
Marketing, UX/UI, HCI(human computer interaction), HTML/CSS...and there's a thing called 'communication', or 'leadership'
This makes me so sad, I study graphic design in the UK and my course is SO BAD!!
