@Robert Brown you do realize Omni-Man isn’t human at all, right? It was always his species’ plan to rule earth or wipe it out if need be, he’s never cared about humans, he even says so, going so far as to refer to his wife as a ‘pet’. I never got the feeling from the show that we should automatically look up to him just because on the surface he’s basically Superman. The first episode gets rid of that mindset pretty fricken quickly too. The only hint at him having some sense of empathy is for his son when he says “you dad, I’ll still have you” - after beating him within a minuscule of his life. I think you completely missed the whole point of this character 😂

6:40 One thing I love about the final battle between invincible & omni man when compared to other superhero battles is that invincible gets thoroughly fucked up, physically and emotionally, whereas most superhero fights are typically just two invulnerable dudes throwing eachother thru buildings with little to no effect on them physically

    • @SomeRandomBlockhead
      @SomeRandomBlockhead 2 года назад +43

It’s also great how in the end, Mark won because he couldn’t be broken mentally. He stayed true to his beliefs and self, even on the brink of death, whereas Omni-Man wasn’t phased in the slightest physically, but his emotional instability got the better of him in the end, causing him to flee. This only works because of the established relationship they have, and it works beautifully. Winning a fight isn’t always about whom outperforms whom with their fists, and staying tough, not giving in, no matter the punishment endured, can be much more effective in the end

What I expected: Animated The Boys
What I got: A well written subversion of several superhero tropes, that plays with the expectations set by weaker written elements of the genre and uses that against the viewer. Behind the saturday morning cartoon façade lies a deep and complex look at realism versus idealism, morality and the human condition. I could go on and on about how simple set ups like Mark's parents having such a loving and open marriage makes Omnimans later deceptions and her just knowing somethings wrong that much more tension filled and believable. You get invested in every single character and the show does an amazing job of giving you just enough tidbits of backstory and motivations for minor characters to get you invested without slowing down the pacing or confusing the watcher.

It sends a message that you can't trust any man, not even the apparent good ones. They're fascists in disguise, waiting to strike. The only way for men to be good according to this show is to be grounded by a gender studies gf and a gay best friend.
And ffs, how would Viltrum even work as a society? How they haven't all killed each other? No matter how strong you are, there's always someone stronger than you in one context or another. Everyone's weak at different things. This show is dumb and it doesn't make any sense.

he is a perfect character IMO. He's sort of like Nick Fury pre-Captain-Plank in that he's a distant asshole at first glance, yet after just a few minutes of him talking you realize he's playing a different game entirely. Plus, he's endlessly quotable. A good example of both is when he exorcised Damien Darkblood for getting too close to the truth, not because he WANTS to cover it up, but because Damien Darkblood could only see in black and white, and he needs to keep things grey to bide his time until that actually know what's going on, since revealing Omniman too early could doom them all. (it's also a nice bit of wordplay since Omniman's last name is Grayson, so he literally has to keep things gray, as in, he has to keep things how Omniman wants them to be) There are also lines like when Debbie is mad at him and says that that's why she hates him and he just callously responds "it's why I hate me too" not in a depressive or relatable way, but in that he genuinely doesn't like having to deal in the shades of moral grey he lives in, it's just that he has to in order to actually do his job.

Amber was a blonde in the comics, race changed for diversity. Marc became half-Asian too in the show. If you exclude Woke-Amber who was created to be SJW by the amazon studio, the show was nice because it respected the original material.

The sad thing is I think Robert Kirkman and crew are pathetic enough to have actually endorsed the race changes. The comics are very....degenerate to say the least, and Kirkman's been loose-lipped about his personal politics.

Something I really love from this show is that every episode had me worried for ever character because I genuinely thought anyone could die at any time (not mark) because of the ending of episode 1. That’s something I’ve never felt before when watching a superhero show and I’m so glad this show was able to give me that feeling, I never read the comics btw.

So you enjoyed it?! How and why? If you like the critical part of this channel (as obvious as it might be) you can’t like this show. I mean you’d be objectively hypocritical, right? Strong diverse female characters upstaging male counterparts ✅ gay best friend does gay best friend things ✅ White male characters are bullies who are upstaged✅ plus 10 or more laundry list SJW checklists for other character.
I would really like to open up a dialogue to understand what a critical drinker fab, who might suspects this is trash, honestly thinks about this show.

@@schizophrenic_AI I don't believe for a second you want a dialogue. You are the type of person who responds to an off comment complaining about 1 very specific thing and extrapolate some kid of profile that puts the author in the worst light possible.
A normal person would not be surprised that someone who is in general support of this channel may not actually hate women, gays, blacks etc. You are either blinded by your agenda to honestly not understand that, or deliberately trolling and fishing for some response to support your theory for which your only argument is a strawman.

@@ThatDjinn fortunately my truth, the observable general truth is just that. Truth isn’t subject to subjective framing.
And I am honestly very fascinated to hear someone describe how this show is not a blatant and hilarious example of all of the most sad and lazy woke culture, so often criticized on this channel (possible worse than most).
A respectable person would actually address the clear contradictions rather than resort to lazy assurances that you’re right and I’m wrong because I disagree.
Also what you said about people who are “in general support of the channel“ is literally the most denigrating thing you can say about this channel and yourself. Isn’t this all about rational debate, intellectual discourse, and critical discernment? If you can’t defend yourself just say so.
