How sad but true that sometimes “family” are our biggest enemies. When I was 19 years old, I put 3,000 miles between me and my family and as a 49 year old now, I’m glad I did.

When you have what you believe to be “a good relationship” with your mother, and you’re really close with her, it would be hard to suddenly see her in a different light. This just happened two weeks prior to this call. That’s not enough to have fully processed what happened and recognize her mother as someone who betrayed her and committed a crime against her. There’s a grieving process to go through as the realization fully hits her. Not an easy situation, by any means!

It’s important to remember that life is chaotic and at times very changing, we all live different lives, come from different backgrounds and circumstances, Always be nice to anyone you meet!

Why did her mom even have her social security number.

Because if she filed income tax she had her daughter's information.I still have files with my daughter's social security number on it and she's 31 years old. I have never used it. I have no need to. However the other day I did open up a life insurance policy with her as a beneficiary and I needed her social security for that. My daughter had absolutely no problem giving me her number so I didn't have to go through all my files. She knows I would never, ever do anything like this to her. I would live in my car 1st. I actually have her bank account number. I will a periodically deposit money and there for birthdays and Christmas. I have never abused it, I have never even checked the balance when I'm depositing money. My name is not on her account and her name is not on mine but she has my debit card number and pin. She has never abused it either. It is so sad that you can't even trust the person who is supposed to love you more than anybody else on this Earth.

Most parents do, because most parents do their child’s taxes when they are under 18

I'm not an American so I looked into it and it does happen but it's very rare it sounds like. They require the police report be made already (none of this have her pay it off and look the other way). I'm sure there's a ton of bureaucracy involved in red tape and it'd be right pain.
