Your teaching is superior. Everything you say is important. No excess chatter which makes your tutorials stand out from the others. I am really glad I found your channel.
Please confirm you sewed the binding nearest the colorful section of the quilt. On my phone it sort of looked like the outer edge on my phone. I really enjoyed this project. Thank you.
Wow, thank you for the sweetest comment ever! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you. I appreciate you watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
What fun! Everything old is new again. I am 71 and this is how my Great Grandmother and Grandmother finished their quilts. Except they did it mostly by hand. You did a great job of explaining this old style technique.
Had two strip quilt tops hanging in a closet. Got them out and added batting and backing, quilted them and stitched self-binding and they’re done!!! Thank you so very much! That was fun.😄
Thanks for your kind words! 🤗 I'm so glad the tutorial gave you confidence to try it out. I appreciate you taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. Happy quilting! 🌸
On behalf of myself and other beginners, thank you so much for such a great lesson. I’m new to your channel and looking forward to all the new things I will learn.
I don't know much about youtube so using my husband's profile. I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. I watched it 4 times already and have started a baby quilt. I was finally able to grasp mitered corners and putting pieces together. I still haven't gotten the hang of your piecing but i love it. Starting simple and joining straight across on first try and hope i am brave enough to try your method next time. All of us are not seasoned quilters so your simple directions are just what i needed to get me interested. Thank you.
This is a great baby quilt. I cut 2 strips from 10 fabrics and sewed together. Then cut each 40.5 inches long. Now sewing the strips together. Very easy to do. This is a quick project and hope to be quilting the top after the strips are together. I will bind normally because I enjoy that look. Thanks for the lovely tutorial!
Love to watch you sew , so articulate on your projects. And your using a Brother machine and you do a better job than the ones using the fancy expensive ones.
Maybe it doesn’t matter with a small quilt but I was taught to baste in the middle of the quilt top to bottom and side to side. I will be making these for an inner city kindergarten class. Thank you. You are a great teacher.
Hi there, there are so many rules and different things that work for different people when it comes do quilting. I haven’t heard this rule, but it makes sense. Thanks for sharing 🤗
Great binding technique! Just a tip - you'll greatly reduce the tension wrinkles between your quilting lines and your quilt will be smoother if you quilt all your lines in the same direction. So quilt one line from top to bottom, cut thread, reposition quilt and stitch the next line from top to bottom. You can start from the middle and work your way to the first edge. Then rotate your quilt 180 degrees and quilt out from the middle to the other edge. When you make a quilting line, you are dragging the fabric ever so slightly in the direction of the stitching. If you rotate and stitch the other direction, you pull the fabric a little in the other direction. This makes tension wrinkles in between the stitching lines. Sometimes there's no choice in how you quilt and sometimes it's an affect you want, but it's why the wrinkles are there.
Interesting. I was always taught you turn to reduce the drag. Thanks for the info. I also didn’t want to constantly stop and start since you see it with this binding.
@@staceyleecreative Yes, it could show on the back. For a charity quilt I would use the lock stitch or neatly backstitch. If I'm giving the quilt to friends or family, I make the thread tails on each end of the quilt line long. Then I bring both threads to the top, tie a knot, and bury the ends in the quilt. It does take a lot longer, but the result is very nice - I've been working to convince myself that I enjoy ALL aspects of creating a quilt, even the repetitive, boring parts, lol.
@@staceyleecreative me too! Always taught to do it the way you did it on this little quilt, always going in different directions. You did a great job on it, and the tutorial was excellent. TY
