- Shimabuku Tatsuo (1908~1975) learned Sanchin kata from Miyagi Chōjun (1888~1953). Arcenio Advincula learned Sanchin kata from Shimabuku Tatsuo Sensei in 1959 at the Isshin-ryū Karate honbu dōjo, Agena, Gushikawa Shi, Okinawa.
Sanchin (三戦 ‘サンチン’)
Traditionally the eighth karate kata Shimabuku Tatsuo Sensei taught in the Isshin-ryū Karate syllabus.
Love this guy. Isshinryu is not the same anymore. Washed down. I could see Master A ( real master ) back in his day take on MMA or Dog Brothers. He has my respect.
Excellent! Thank you for posting more recent videos of you doing these katas. Consistent and inspirational for aging students.
:-)
Advincula Sensei was brilliant. Hope he is still alive. Shihan
I saw Professor Advincula perform Sanchin kata over 20 years ago in the small of Pilot Mountain North Carolina when I was 13 years old. The intensity of his execution has not diminished.
Trying to do my best :-)
Didn't Mr. Advincula design the Mitzugami patch? Has he left any applicable training books or videos besides the one on katA?
Hello there Sensei! Hope you're having a great day! I have a question related to Sanchin for you. It is common knowledge that Miyagi sensei created Tensho kata to complement Sanchin kata, as its softer counterpart. What is your take on why Tensho was not included in the Isshinryu system? I've searched online and nothing ever pops up. Did Tatsuo Sensei not learn Tensho? and if he did, did he choose to not include it on purpose? My limited knowledge tells me Tensho is a significant form so I'm hoping you can shed some insight on this topic. Oh, and many thanks for your continuous great content! Your friend Carlos.
Nobody has chinkuchi like Advincula Sensei, even at 39.42 years of age!
Thanks.
Thank you Sensei! I am in Santa Monica, CA and would truly love to come down to Oceanside to train. Please let me know if this is possible and how to go about doing so. Thank you!!!
