great video. Such a long history we've had. My childhood years for me the golden era was from 76-83.
with schmidt, carlton, rose, Bowa, Luzinski.

Good video. I'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention the Phillie Phanatic.

Interesting that I never saw the baseball on the Phillies uniform. Great historical context!

Yeah, that one's easy to miss and sometimes they don't include it at all! I wish they would all the time, I think it's a nice touch

Pate Rose was only a ok player with the Phillies. he only has a OPS+ of 101 and in 1980 he was not that good with a OPS+ of 94. he was definitely overpaid and there are other guys that could replace him at the time in 1980

Totally agree, and you're probably not going to make a lot of people happy by pointing this out! Rose was a great hitter in his Reds days, but by the time he reached the Phillies he just wasn't that good anymore and they would have been better off finding someone else to play first base in the early 1980s, especially such a heavy hitting position. I don't think this would have happened with today's understanding of the game...

They were not the weez kids in the 70's. It was the 1983 team I think that had joe morgan at the tail end of his career. You forgot Pete Rose Jim Katt. Allen should have been there years ago in the hall. Willie Mays said no had more power than Alllen. Allen got paid more the most than Henry Aaron did when Aaron was chasing Babe Ruths record.

    What about 1964

Good call, probably should have mentioned it but I guess it already felt like I was ripping on the Phillies failures prior to 1980 quite a bit!
For those that don't know, the Phillies experienced an epic collapse in 1964 by losing a 6-1/2 game lead over the Cardinals with only 12 games to go in the season! Often referred to as the "Phold of 64", it had a lasting negative impact on the fan base...perhaps lending to why Philly Phans have always been seen as some of the most difficult fans in the game!
