Baseball is unique in that you know who's hitting and fielding at any time. This isn't hockey, basketball, yank "football" or actual football (not "soccer") where you need matching unis.
The funny thing about the Astros' "Tequila Sunrise" uniforms is that the fans and most of the players back then didn't like them. But now if you go to an Astros game, you're liable to see dozens of fans wearing them. Not to mention the fact the look has found it's way onto the side panels of their Sunday uniforms which were worn on the night the team won the 2022 World Series.
I'm a baseball fan in Canada and, whenever I watch games online from Minute Maid Park, it's inevitable you're going to see a few of the Tequila Sunrise jerseys in various shots of the crowd.

Throughout the late 70's & early 80's teams across the nation were re-creating the tequila sunrise jerseys in their own colors. Ugly or not, they were a massive trend and set forth a revolution of design-maxed uniforms. They changed the game!
When I was a kid, our Jr. Babe Ruth League team (13-15?) had orange and blue uniforms like the Houston Astros and matching flat hats like the Pittsburgh Pirates. Our assistant coach, in his perfect Southern Missouri drawl, proclaimed, "Boys, them uniforms is sexier than a two-peckered dog!" 🤣

1971 Pittsburgh and Baltimore uniforms were just four different nice uniforms. 1979 Pittsburgh and Baltimore uniforms in their second decade World Series match were a fashion show in the different looking uniforms back then. Most of them were nice however.
I liked the Padres mustard uniforms, Indians all red, and the Astros tequila sunrise. I hated the Black and white, the city uniforms, and the 1944 satin uniforms. My favorite was the 1971 Oakland A's vest style.
@jorge. I haven't seen all of the league's city connection uniforms, but of all the one's I have seen, I don't like any of them. Maybe one day I'll see one I actually like. 😊
The Houston Astros Tequila Sunrise jerseys are my favorite ones. I am biased as I am an Astros fan. But I wear my with pride and get many compliments when I do so. Also the rainbow sleeve look was great as well. Both of these jerseys are great and always will be! And even if those jerseys were worn as a new one today I would still love it and not hate it like you say MLB fans would do including Astros fans! You have no clue what you are talking about! SMDH! I wish the Tequila Sunrise jerseys would be in the rotation of jerseys the Astros wear today. That would be sweet if this were to happen!
I always loved the Astros 1970's look. The Indians had red, white and blue pants and jerseys and interchanged the colors, not just red on red. My favorite story was when John Lowenstein played for the Indians, he would go to the managers office where that days color combination was posted on the door, then promptly dress in the wrong combination. The other players would come in and see Lowenstein sitting at his locker and assume without checking that the combination Lowenstein was wearing was the right one for that day. Lowenstein would then change into the proper combination and go out for batting practice. When the other players went out for batting practice, they'd be dressed in a combination other than what Lowenstein and the coaching staff were wearing. Manager Frank Robinson would make them go in and change. The first couple of times Robinson blew his stack before everyone finally figured out what was going on.
Baseball was at it's best in the 80s..and the colorful uniforms were great!..especially any team that had the sky blue colors..They need that more often today..

I have a MAJOR soft spot for the '80s Astros uniforms, simply because kid me loved looking at anything resembling rainbows or old VHS production-company logos. Same with the Mariners' TATC unis, just because Junior specifically rocked them so well in my opinion. The others on this list? Yeah, hot garbage and mid all around. :P

I really liked the White Sox font on those unis that had the shorts. They should've kept it on future jerseys. The all-black and all-white and the All-Star game unis are hideous. The whole idea of that game is for the players to show what team they're representing.
The 2021 ASG uniforms were a letdown not only because they were terrible, but because they dropped the tradition of each player wearing their own team's uniform AND, the futures game uniforms were FIRE, so I don't know why they didn't just use those.
I loved the all black Pirate's uniforms. With mixing it up all the time, the players didn't know what they were wearing until they got to the ballpark.

I'm surprised by the one that is NOT here: the 1980s "mix and match" Pirates uniforms. They had a bunch of different shirts, pants, hats, and other accessories that they could have worn a different look every day for a month. I liked it, but judging by the video maker's distate for some of these, I expected it to be there. 4:45 - I was a Vancouver Canucks fan at the time Houston worse those "sunrise" uniforms. (Remember the yellow and black "V" uniforms?) By comparison, Houston looked good. 8:05 - Holy crap, those were awful. That's almost as bad as the NHL's "cooperalls" of the 1980s.
I couldn't stand the 80s Pirate's unis either. On the other hand, I like their home unis they wear now. I also liked their vest unis they wore in the 1960s. Yes, I'm old. The 60s are my favorite decade for unis.
I know watch the All Star Game because they went the route of the other sports and started wearing All Star Uniforms. I loved watching players representing their team. You knew who was at bat and on the field. If they go back to team specific uniforms then ill watch again
Loved the astros uniform growing as a kid and and the number the leg was cool. My favorite player was Terry Puhl I like the all red indians uniform better than the red with white pants. The phillies uniform look like a valore leisure suit.
Dodgers CC was ugly but I did like last year with the white pant and thank god they got rid of the CC cap. That cap with the team name look like if you bought it at Sams or Big 5 for $10
As a general rule, I hate any uniform where the team is going outside their traditional color scheme. Can't argue with that #1 at all, though. Putting the team initials on the front was bad enough, but clumsily slopping the team logo on top of that... who on Earth thought that was acceptable?
Sorry but that Astros look was awesome. Almost all little league teams in Texas had their all star unis like that for a time...a couple of years go that scheme came back and a bunch of HS teams had the look with their team colors and it still looks awesome.
@timchang. I've always disliked the A's white cleats. In fact, I've never cared for their unis either, since I don't like the colors green and yellow together.
The Tequila Sunrise uniforms have proved to be a classic, still remembered affectionately to this day. The idea that they'd be ridiculed today is simply wrong.
The Expos uni's were always fire. I so hope they come back into existence, along with the Nashville Stars getting an expansion club. Hoping in my lifetime MLB expands to 36 teams, and in addition to the Stars and Expos we get to see the: Utah Bees, Portland Pines (or Pioneers), Charlotte Knights, and Las Vegas Aviators. This is assuming the A's relocate to Sacramento? Also, the Rays relocating to Mexico and rebranding as the Mexico Azteca (in Mexico City or Monterrey) would be so lit. Or maybe a less controversial name would be the Mexico City Lobos. It would be such a strategic move to expand to places where you have a broadcast in French (Montreal) and Spanish (Mexico), to truly make it an international game. Really hope it happens in my lifetime. Final comment: always felt the Giants have super underrated uniforms. Sure, I'm a lifelong Giants fan and undoubtedly biased. But I would put them as #5 on the MLB uniform ranking list, behind the: Yankees, Dodgers, Cardinals, and A's. Especially the Giants grey road uni's. They look like the quintessential "bad guy" uniforms. Completely bad ass and I love it.
Gary Templeton...an all-star SS...was traded from St. Louis to San Diego for Ozzie Smith. In the season opener for the Padres, Templeton took an 0h-fer and made an error. When asked by local media about his disappointing debut...Tempy responded "It's tough to play your best when you look like a taco."
Styles change, that is just the way it is. What is considered beautiful today will be considered awful forty years from now. Take the clown outfits that the NFL forces us to look at during throwback games. Some of those are so bad that I have actually decided not to watch the game. Hint hint advertisers! If you want the biggest audience for your product, stop them from wearing those!
Actually, the Phillies did wear the all-burgundy unis one other time, back in 2019 against the Braves. They were doing a 70s throwback night. I was there and I can tell you that those uniforms are cursed. Not just because they don't look good at all, even in person, but they got blown out that night as well. Pretty sure they also lost badly back in 1979 too. At least the ballpark was nice.
Thumbs down, but I do partly agree with you on some of your picks. Even the Houston Astros "Tequila Sunrise" uniforms. They should reimagine the look because as you discussed. Those were quite popular uniforms. Yes, a little too 'busy' with the rings. Simply put, less is more with the tequila sunrise. The Houston Astros uniforms I actually didn't like are the pin-striped and red shirt alternates. I also don't like the current t ones. I do like the "Space City" City Connect uniforms. I also liked their old-school road uniforms, but they should have been traditional road greys. Here's an interesting take on the Philadelphia Phillies uniforms. I wish they would go back to the 1970 - 1991 uniforms. Except the grotesque all burgundy uniforms. I love that color with the powder blue road uniforms. I wish the Chicago White Sox would go back to the early 1980s uniforms. I really love and miss those uniforms. Their current uniforms are becoming 'boring' and outdated.
When I do my R.B.I. Baseball - Heritage Collection NES ROMs, even during seasons where the uniforms weren't used, I'll give the Padres the brown & mustard uniform color scheme.
On the contrary, its exactly these funky uniforms that I always end up loving most...in any sport really. You get so use to seeing the regular ones, they become drab and mundane. I like it when a team lets a uniform designer go a little nuts.
Great list. Leave it to Manfred to be Numero Uno for the ugliest uniforms ever. I could place a lot of the City Connect uniforms in this one. I will say the best City Connect uniforms that I like better than the original is for Miami.

The all red indians jersey are cool. The font makes it.
Expos uniforms were so great!
You obviously weren’t a product of the ‘70s!The uniforms were a product of the design culture and were very exciting.
The Blue Cardinals road uniforms were great.
Agreed.
Dodgers CC was ugly but I did like last year with the white pant and thank god they got rid of the CC cap. That cap with the team name look like if you bought it at Sams or Big 5 for $10
the Astros uniforms with the colors on the front were thought to be a disadvantage, the umps used it as a strike zone
I loved that 1980s Astros uniform.
Oh no I guess I'm in the minority because as a kid I loved the Astros and the Padres uniforms, as well as the yellow and black Pirates uniforms.
You...are WRONG!
@TheLeadSled I agree with you.
Every 80s kid basically slept in the Tequila Sunsrise bedsheets. I love the look. 😊
Leave the all-star game uniforms for the home run derby, and have the players wear their regular uniforms for the game.
As a general rule, I hate any uniform where the team is going outside their traditional color scheme. Can't argue with that #1 at all, though. Putting the team initials on the front was bad enough, but clumsily slopping the team logo on top of that... who on Earth thought that was acceptable?
@jroggs. I agree. I didn't like the Cardinals old light blue unis at all. But their originals are great.
I'm not from Houston but I loved those Astros uniforms when I was a kid. There was nothing like em and the number on the pants was a great touch.
Sorry but that Astros look was awesome. Almost all little league teams in Texas had their all star unis like that for a time...a couple of years go that scheme came back and a bunch of HS teams had the look with their team colors and it still looks awesome.
If they were never made and then introduced today, I'm not so sure you would love them so much.. they became nostalgic after so many years.
@@HummBabyBaseball maybe on the Astros because of the color, but the actual design I think just look real.good
Haha. I happen to love those rainbow Astros jerseys, but I'm totally sold on your point that shirts and pants should not match in color. 😄
@timchang. I've always disliked the A's white cleats. In fact, I've never cared for their unis either, since I don't like the colors green and yellow together.
I liked the Astros jersey but you missed the 2023 softball uniforms worn by almost every team last season
The Astros Tiquilla Sunrise uniforms are way better than the current day City Connect uniforms. I hate the City Connect uniforms.
I agree.
The Tequila Sunrise uniforms have proved to be a classic, still remembered affectionately to this day. The idea that they'd be ridiculed today is simply wrong.
I like the Astros' sunrise uniforms or whatever they were called. But those White Sox shorts could have made sliding into a base painful.
I'm surprised no one decided on tank tops, along with shorts, (like the NBA players do).
That is exactly what I think every time I see the Sox shorts! Ouch!
@@johnrudan9699 Imagine the Chicago Bears in shorts!
I think the multicolored Astros uniforms were very nice.
2021 All Star uni look like if you bought it at Walmart or a Swapmeet
I LOVED the Astros uniform. I went out and bought one
Those funky uniforms were great!
Dude - really ? It's a bunch of dudes playing a game - good grief
If they do expand the leagues, I'm all for adding The Trash Pandas
Gary Templeton...an all-star SS...was traded from St. Louis to San Diego for Ozzie Smith. In the season opener for the Padres, Templeton took an 0h-fer and made an error. When asked by local media about his disappointing debut...Tempy responded "It's tough to play your best when you look like a taco."
That Rays uni early on, looks like they just ripped off the old Padres uniforms and tossed their colors on them.
Hi Erik. Not a big fan of those new Giants connect jerseys. Those orange cream ones. Go Giants!!!...💯⚾
In 1994 those gray Cubs jerseys that looked like it spelled C-u-b-a 😅
In Australia we are an AFL team that wears Brown and Yellow, we don't call them the "mustards" we call them the "soiled nappies".
Hawthorn Hawks!
@@lesyankee6129 Thats the team. Ugly jerseys but they wear them with pride, as do their supporters.
I don’t hate those old Astros uniforms
On the contrary, its exactly these funky uniforms that I always end up loving most...in any sport really. You get so use to seeing the regular ones, they become drab and mundane. I like it when a team lets a uniform designer go a little nuts.
nolan ryan himself said when he first came to houston that he hated the way the uniforms worked an he thought he "looked like a clown"
Great list. Leave it to Manfred to be Numero Uno for the ugliest uniforms ever. I could place a lot of the City Connect uniforms in this one. I will say the best City Connect uniforms that I like better than the original is for Miami.
Miami’s city connect is 🔥 also I really like the Angels city connect. Their normal white jerseys are pretty bland.
Whenever I shop at any thrift stores, I'm on the hunt for the '74 Indians and '75-'86 Astros jerseys to display in my apartment.
Dodgers City Connect Uniforms made them look like janitors😂😂😂
Lol 😂
Those Astro uniforms are so awesome
