There is one more car which had ITBs which I forget to include - it is the Honda Beat with that 9,000 rpm screaming inline-3. Cheers, mates, and thank you for watching!
Hey man, that black RB26DETT actually has a peripheral port Rotary in it.
Also Bugatti EB110 has 12 of them.
Didn't know this existed, thanks.
VisioRacer CarThrottle made a video about the US spec E36 M3.
Alfa Romeo had them for years (1960's-early 1980's) in Spiders, Alfettas, GTs, etc. They were paired up, but were individual throttles for each cylinder.
That Toyota LFA sounds beautiful. Yamaha sure knows how to make some great sounding and performing engines. I loved how my crossplane R1 used to sound.
I’m quite sure Yamaha is an acoustic company and prioritises sound higher than most companies do, which is why the 4.8 v10 sounds like no other
I want an R1 because of that sound. They sound fantastic, no?
Pro Tune Race Club maybe that's why they have such beautiful exhaust notes.
dowutchudo exactly
... It was never badged as a toyota...
The idle on that r34 sounded like a rotary jeez
Pro Tune Race Club i think it was a rotary lol
Well, aftermarket cams and heads will do that to any car.
Dylan no it wasn’t ...
Dylan No you muppet, it definitely sounds like a rb26 just that huge cams does that to an rb26
Sounds cammed
I dare to say that the F355 is one of the best sounding cars ever.
Victor Alcaide the f355 is the best sounding car ever
Victor Alcaide best sounding ferraris
Probably my second favourite sounding v8, only to the 5,5 supercharged one from the SLR
Also one of the best looking
I cannot think of a Ferrari that does not sound great, maybe some better than others, but that wail is just bad ass.
4A-GE is easily one of the best sounding 4 cyl ever produced.
Vivek Anand lol how about EJs lol
LKRG no they sound like misfiring 4 cylinders
Had a silver top in my mr2
I dont know the name of the engine but you should listen to the rumble of the engine in the lancia HF delta intergale evoluzion
nappy V4
7:33 to 7:40 - god yes.
Jesus christ 4ag throttle bodys had me awe!!Individual throttle bodys have a special sound ❤👌
Check out the Sushpants channel all his videos are amazing and the car looks absolutely mint
I have one. Lovely engine for a 1.6.
6:33 sounds like a rotary LMAO
brap brap brap brap
Flan Gaming12 high lift cams idle smooth at about 5000 rpm, with fire out the pipe. That's why that straight six 4 stroke was hunting... and the rotaries that sound like that are ported for 15000 rpm. A regular Mazda wenkle idles fine at 1000 rpm, because port timing, but the torque curve falls off. Horsepower is a factor of revs ×torque and port timing, or valve timing, is a compromise. Fluid dynamics. Look up two stroke power valves, if you don't understand. Engines all sound kind of similar. Suck squeeze bang blow, is how they work. Just depends on where the suck happens... and how frequently they bang. Detroit diesels are pretty interesting too. 4 cycle is the most efficient, but not the most powerful.
I could never understand why people never respect the LFA?
Always love your videos Visio! I remember growing up being amazed by the E34s 3.5 engine with ITBs and the 4a-GE 20v too. But those M engines have a very particular and glorious sound!
Right now a Lexus LFA is still $400k used. Even then it seems like a good investment car for the future. As in, if you can afford to daily/weekend it without gunning it all the time, then it won't lose any value and you might even make money on it over a 10 yr period. Damn it is sad they did not make more engines like that.
That Ferrari, R34 and the LFA all sound the most beautiful and amazing! :O
S85B50 & S65B40 should be on the list as 2 of BMWs Best creations and direct descendants of the S70/2 built for the Mclaren F1. Unbelievably amazing sound, character and power delivery. Great video!
Another great video. I just came back home and wanted to watch something entertaining, and saw a notification from your channel.
Keep up the great work!
LoL that Little 1.7 4L Alfa sounds better than most of supercars
sounds like a baby v8
I like this guy's videos. They are very informative with just the facts. Good stuff.
this is like older cars having one carb per cylinder
Andy [Xvixx] tb only add air, not fuel
Alex Gunner it’s a similar idea though because each tb has it’s only injector.
Abigail Pruijmboom yeah, agreed. It's a finer level of control.
I heard a 355 on the streets many years ago. I've always wanted one.
The McLaren S70/2 has two single vanos units - one for each head. They are variable on the intake side only and are very similar to the S50B30. The U.S. M3s (1995 to 1999 model years) have a single throttle body with the S50B30US for 1995 and S52B32 for 1996 through 1999.
That intro is really good
ITB's doesn't necessarily have any advantages for the power output and might even lower it. The reason to have them is solely for response. A single big throttle body can/would provide more flow when open and thus more power but ofc worse response then individula ones. Great video!
they doo, if the runners are tuned to give max power at max rpms
but the biggest reason is for the use of camshafts with long overlap
thee,s cams never work very well on single intakes due to unwanted pulses going back up the intake manifold, especially at lower revs,or off cam
the sound of the LFA is legendary.
Man, the sound of that LFA...
The VW aircooled 2+ liter engines did pretty well for themselves with dual Weber IDAs, IDFs, or DCNFs for 40 years, long before EFI was invented for thousands of old school enthusiasts. Compared to the horsepower monsters of today, brought to you by modern engineering , the VW aircooled engines have been supplying fun power cars that have kicked ass in many drag strips and street cars and didn't need to rev to 8000rpm.
Thanks for the lesson on this type of induction set-up!
7:08 eurobeat intensifies
Love this channel! Don't know why I never subbed until now?
Didn't know F1's BMW had ITB all along, I always saw the linkage but not the thing. Still that engine sounds awesome!
Very happy to see a Sushpants video for the 4AG part. He has the best videos on the corolla gts with a blacktop swap.
6:25, the background car being worked on, while the blue R34 was reving, Holden Torana xu-1, it's not individual throttle bodies but for a carbie engine, 3 webber carbs for 6 cylinders is pretty close.
202 I'd imagine?
The S85B50 from the E60 M5 is such a beautiful sounding car with itb.
Some very old cars had them too. In the UK, the old British car company called "Triumph", had ITB's on the "Triumph Mk1 2500 PI", and the TR6. This was in 1969.
That F355 sounds better than any car I've ever heard.
Yes it's great, bit the BRM H-16 is better.
Best Ferrari V8 ever!
That LFA tho...
I'm 16 years old, from germany, and following you for a long time now.
I am a huge JDM fan and i wanted to know ich you could make a video (if you dont even have one) for some cool budget JDM Cars, more coupes than hatchbacks. Like a MK3 Supra for example to start into the scene.
Oh that sounds perfect - Japanese V10
The Spica mechanical fuel injection used on US market twin cams in the 1970s had a throttle body for each cylinder, as did the Montreal V8. It was a very "tunable" system with excellent throttle response and great fuel economy possible by exploiting the closed-throttle fuel cutoff feature.
Live hearing your narration back on the videos
4:17 you can't go wrong with boxer engine sound ! 🤩
I thought Euro spec E36 M3 had ITBs?
Pramaap Singh Teotia the S50 he talked about was used in the US market M3, hence the US in the mode name.
Only euro spec. USDM E36 got the S50 without ITBs. US spec only made like 240hp while the Euro counterpart made over 300.
Buick GSX Sorry I missed the name of the engine there. Thanks for the info tho
Hey Vivek! Americans brought it upon themselves by being disrespectful to BMW.
You are correct. Us spec had and 80mm with a common plenum
And smaller displacement
My neighbor has a Superformance GT40. With the IDB's and bundle of snakes exhaust it is a sight to behold...and hear.
The Lamborghini Bizzarini V12 had ITBs in carbureted, and later fuel-injected, from the factory in many models as well.
The VHPD Rover K-Series was also used by Caterham and not only by Lotus. Caterham later fitted roller barrel instead of the ITB which give a few bhp more.
Those high revving engines always make me think of cats screaming whilst fighting an intruder to defend and make clear their territory. There's plenty of videos up on YT in case you were wondering.
Rover k series engines are also used by caterham
Your intro theme is iconic to driving enthusiasts
The LFA sound just gave me a bit of a downstairs crisis
3:53 that alfa sounded awesome because it has had a boxer engine, not for the ITB's...
It depends where your ear is at. You would hear ITBs from the front obviously, not from the rear.
Great channel dude. Only issue i have is your intro needs some work. Particularly the Jingle/music
That LFA is not a good looking car, but *that sound* is music to my ears...
Jörgen Börg I used to think that but seeing it in person changed my mind. Also it is aging extremely well and looks better today than the time of its release. Seeing one in the flesh is the best way to understand and appreciate its design and the 10 yrs of development Toyota worked to creat this masterpiece. Of driving dynamics. Best car ever to come out of Japan 🇯🇵
5:18 oh boy we got a british bored out 4AGE
I didn't know Alfa made a boxer! That's cool as hell
LFA, RB26 and 4age were my favorites.
7:39 this corolla has that much suction
that it even suck the camera in
The 1Lr, best engine one earth, too bad that it is so rare
There was a thing in the days of carbureted engines called a tunnel-ram where the fuel/air mixture was given extra length to develop momentum in before it reached the intake valve, so that it had force behind it when the valve opened.
Different situation...the tunnel ram was basically a long-runner intake manifold. Lots of cars have them these days, but with compact than in the past. Tunnel rams with long runners are great for low-end torque, which is why they used to be seen on drag and hot rod engines, but not as good for high rpm power and throttle-snap response, which is why really short manifolds are generally used for track racing. They don't actually have an effect on mixture "momentum", although this is a common belief - it's more about the sudden pressure wave when a valve closes that then oscillates up and down the runner as it starts to dissipate within the runner, also called Helmholtz resonance (this is also what cause carb "standoff - that cloud of vapour that extends above the throttle plates.) A longer runner theoretically gives that pressure wave more time before it makes it back down to the valve - hopefully just in time for it to open and force more mixture into the cylinder. And the addition of an intake trumpet that can contain that standoff vapour can also help.
www.hotrod.com/articles/hrdp-1303-tunnel-rams-on-the-street/
ITBs are the modern equivalent to having an old-school multi-carb setup - it generally gives the air-fuel mix a short, straight shot into each cylinder instead of a manifold with corners to negotiate, giving better response (although it is possible to run ITBs with longer separate intake runners - rather like having injection on top of your tunnel ram - if that will suit your power delivery requirements and expected rpm range better.)
I remember the Chrysler engines with the seperated manifolds stretching across the opposite head with a carburetor on either side of the engine compartment.
I can't say for sure, but it sounds like a low-profile concept for a long runner intake manifold...which isn't a bad idea if you want to keep your carbs out of the weather (which is always a good idea.) Chrysler were never the best when it came to build quality, but they were pretty innovative and willing to try something different.
Oh yeah, big valves and fix cam timing,
it's like been always high after vtec kick yo
i'd prefer you used an E39 M5 for the M engine clips. Would be nice. Also have a list of cars featured, in your description.
The fact that you have turbo cars in here and not the S54 with a carbon box is low key disrespectful, one of the best noises for ITBs
Eurobeats INTENSIFIEDS
Canal do Pessimista Nani?!?! Kansei Dorifto!
The GTI-R looks and sounds like a beast
The alfa romeo with spica fuel injection had itb.
The BMW E46 M3 is the only car I've ever driven before with factory itb's. It's the only way I'd ever own a cat with an n/a straight 6.
*car
There's a rare version of the R32 Skyline GTS-4, tuned by Autech with an RB26DE. I'd love to give that a jam if I ever get a chance, but I've only ever seen one in my life
when we talk about real features in engines
we always have to mention Rb26dett and 1lrgue
Sick video as always
I also think that Ginetta G40 has ITBs... they can be seen in how its made video of the car...
You forgot 997.1, 997.2, and 991.1 Porsche 911 with X51 powerkit option. Six individual throttle butterflies, beautiful aluminum intake plenum, very expensive price tag per horsepower. Worth every penny.
As far as I can research, they all seem to use a single throttle body, but perhaps bigger
@@VisioRacer
www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU991X51.html
"The highlight of the Carrera S Powerkit is the newly developed variable resonance intake manifold with six plus one switchable valves."
@@CoolHand273 That's not ITBs. Intake plenums, especially these high performance for daily drivability use valves to control air-flow, like a variable intake length system.
Wow all 4 cylinder bikes now have ITBs !!
That 4cyl Alfa Romeo does sound rather angry....
BMW beats the list in every way , the E46 M3 and M coupe have those high Erving engines oh boy great sound from factory and that s70 V12 is absolutely mental
Could've sworn the 2zz has ITB for that massive intake manifold
That Ferrari V8 sounds orgasmic
The road with the Ferrari fly by is right near my house 🤣
the MCF1 is arguably one of the best sounding cars ever made
Agree, and it's still the fastest NA car ever made, with a top speed of 386.4 km/h (240.1 mph)
Honda Beat had them too!
The S65 from BMW also has ITB’s like the other M engines.
Guess you forgot the E07A MTREC from the Honda Beat.
E92 M3?
CaliRider didnt you listen?
CaliRider e92 v8 is single throttle body in us spec
patsfast1980 no it's not.
I use to have a porsche with an air cooled rsr motor and twm itb with fuel injection. Car reved to 8500 and sounded like an f1 car.
But i have a gtir now. Im surprised you knew. Hell i didnt know.
The S70 in the McLaren was originally designed for the BMW M8, wich was never produced
Lol at the turbo car with itbs😂
6:16 OMG THE OIL OIL IS GETTING BURNED😂
wasnt the pulsar gtir also turbocharged? does that mean it had ITB's with a turbo?
The only reason I've ever heard of ITB is I knew someone with a '08 M3 who was always having to have them replaced when they broke for a ton of money.
Maximaniac72 the itb's don't break it's the throttle actuators that go bad. The car takes 2 of them and they're like 600 a pop
I would go crazy with the lfa tachometer
The km/h is so inaccurate
It's not inaccurate
The thing is, most cameras can't keep up with the refresh ratio of its display
The same happens with a lot of cars like the Aventador or the SRT Viper
Blame
The
Camera
RB26DETT, el mejor 6 Cilindros en Línea de Japón...
What about V10 M5 take the airbox off it looked n sounded damn good
E07A MTREC Inline 3 from the Honda Beat.
I think you've missed one of Toyotas' V6s ,but i don't know its name, and what car is from
I wonder if individual carburetors sound any differently.
what about all the old cars like fiat that had twin webers? they are itb also
What about the first UK mass produced car to feature ITBs and also Fuel injection, long long befoer any other car did
maybe well befoer your time though !!
I just came on myself when that lfa flew by
Kinda the same with IBS in the first twenty seconds of the video! ( I ca,e here cos I lost my glasses)
Isn’t there a factory AMG motor with ITB’s?
While he did sort of mention it, the reason you would have itb is the throttle response is ridiculous.
The 348 also had a dry sump
"Individual throttle bodies is a gods creation" - visio racer
Japanese ae86 had dual throttle bodies.
4A-GE 20v 😍😍😍
