I've been a subscriber for a long time. This was one of my favorites. It brought back so many memories of trips I took in my youth. Nothing says the North like a Pendleton shirt, bright sun, splitting wood with a well-worn axe, the smell of wood smoke, and working yourself into a sweat in the snow. I appreciate the immense work and patience it takes to capture these trips alone, and I thank you for allowing thousands of people like me to return to the moments in our lives when we were as rugged as the outdoors; days that lifted our spirits and instilled a lifelong love of nature. You are creating a legacy of which you can long be proud.
Very well said. Loved your video Jon. Been watching you from the beginning and it just keeps getting better. You seem so at peace and settled in your element. It really comes through in the thoughtful moments you share. Love the peaceful musical interludes and portrayal of Ontario’s immense natural beauty. So awesome 😊
Jon and Erin, I have watched your channel for years. As a fellow Canadian, I am proud of our country and how we treat our land. Please accept my deep gratitude for your videos, and your education about our heritage. I will never experience your travels as a person with disabilities, and am privileged to see it through your eyes. Thank you for sharing your lives and love, for each other and our land. Cheers!🤟
Ramen, barefoot(I’m in bed) and a fresh lost lakes here too. It’s my oldest of my four teenagers 19th birthday so he’s off for a boys weekend with his friends . I’m sitting here grateful for Jons upload so I don’t cry that my baby is now a man who’s probably going to be drinking too much beer tonight 😊
My teen daughters got invited to a sleepover tonight and I finally have me time! A nice hot bath and lost lakes is just what I needed after this long week. I hope you have a wonderful evening!
I always indulge in the majesty of your journey sharing the sights and sounds of isolation. Your honest and witty narration gives comfort whether your trip is short or long. You are an amazing film maker as well as a wonderful story teller combined with a respect for the land that makes your videos authentic. I wish I could give you an award you richly deserve.
Bro you were able to let me survive 3 days in the hospital with a collapsed lung because of these winter camping videos. I will forever love you for that.
One thing I love about your trips is the amazing cooking. I watched this with my mouth watering. When I was young we ate a lot of pasta, baked beans, and bread on our trips. Of course augmented with fish when we could. Nothing like you do now. Wonderful wolf shots. I had a very similar experience on the Canadian side on the east end of Gunflint Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (Minnesota) on a snowy Christmas to New Years week, many years ago. I was taking a break sitting against my gear on a toboggan when 3 wolves came out of a cedar bottom. They saw this lump on the ice and came right out to me to see what it was. About 30 meters away they realized I was a human and turned and loped away. Magical. Keep them coming Jon. I am an old man now and live through your amazing adventures. All the best to you and Erin. Spring is coming. Life is stirring.
Being in IT, there is rarely something I enjoy more than machine processing time on a project that I'm working on; it allows me to let my mind wander and fully immerse myself into your adventures, Jon. What a great trip this was, even though it took me 4 sessions to make it through. Catching the pike was a highlight for me, but the morning of day 8 and the trio of wolves tied for the top spot events. Wolf #3 definitely had a "Stranger Danger" moment when it sensed you. I envy your ability to catch nature in all its glory. I don't have the eye, nor the right equipment, but you and Xander, and some others on YT, have inspired me to get myself a nice camera to try my hand at capturing moments as beautifully as you all do. Thanks for taking us along!! Cheers!
Best tv ever! You are in your element out there. Just everything too beautiful. Those rocks were breathtaking. Loved the hare racing across the lake and the wolves. A gift from above. You know how to inspire us!
Absolutely beautiful awesome footage .. your alone trips are my most favourite..peaceful..quiet..educational.. shows your gentleness.. thank you loved every second😊
Couldn't agree more. It's wonderful to know people like Jon do this. And you and I can enjoy it. Reminds me of an old show from the 70s called Exploration Northwest. Old filming and narration, but served the same purpose. (Starred Don McCune).
Wow, what a treat! Such a great video to kick off my spring break... the otter, the sound of the cracked ice sliding, and the wolves. So relaxing! Thank you!!! 🌲
Perfect timing came home on a Friday evening after a stressful week. Made some dinner for my wife and I. Opened a bottle of wine and unwound to two hours of Lost Lakes.
Your camera and drone perspective is fantastic. Your narration once again is spot on. I’m glad this was your best winter camp trip. Wildlife , Food , Equipment, Best of all the solitude.
The fact that you got this many likes and subscribers but the Atik Ailesi family have like double or triple is beyond me!!!!. This is true genuine camping at its best . fully immersed in nature, not a technology or toys showing or advertising some type of RVs or items for bigger companies to make money off , no no this is true . This young man actually goes in out on his own dragging everything on his back he goes through so much to produce and share this piece of heaven with us.. and for that he deserves a lot more acknowledgment than this as well as support
Thanks for bringing me winter. So missed. Another great trip report. You have a style and vibe that is like no one else doing this. Hard not to share your joy at seeing the wolves. Stunning. ❤
Echoing some previous comments, you are a superb videographer and storyteller. I so appreciate you being your authentic self including your sense of awe and respect as well as your sense of humour. I love wolves. Thrilled for you for the blessing of your experience and the bonus of being able to share it. I have been fortunate to have been privileged with a few sightings in Prince Albert National Park, nothing nearly as intimate as yours. I find their howl to be primal. After an evening of being serenaded by them while out solo camping, even knowing they are typically harmless, I , too, have slept with the axe nearby. Aren’t we lucky to be able be in such mildly uncomfortable situations on occasions. Thank you so much!
Freaking epic! The wolves were majestic. The pike bite was awesome and I actually jumped in my seat a bit at the surprise strike. Great adventure and cinematography as per usual!

Agreed, do not cook in your tent during bear season. Even the “best” bears are unpredictable, they love to eat: carrion, jerry cans, skidoo seats….. and the fellas who sleep in grease laden tents.
For a brief moment there , I thought that I was watching a scene from "Cry of the Wild" ! That's the highest compliment I can pay you , your right up there with the best of them Jon . Brilliant piece of film-making , please keep up the good work !
You are BY FAR the best outdoor camping, fire, food RUclipsr hands down. Your use of music is well thought of and your use of it during the Never Cry Wolf moment was perfect.
you did a great job conveying this experience. I usually put stuff like this on to fall asleep, but I just stayed up late because was engaged with this trip from start to finish. I don't know that I've seen a better video from you, and really it's one of the better examples of this genre I've come across. I love the canoe trips, but this turned into a gem.
I'm in New Zealand and we have no bears here. So yeah, wintertime we have no bears to worry about. No snakes. Some venomous spiders but they're pretty rare. Love your hot tent set up.
Oh my gosh, so glad to hear somebody else who knows bears don't hibernate! 😄 Which is also why there is always the small chance they will wake up mid-winter. Sounds to me like you have the right attitude about it though. Don't need to walk around afraid, but keeping aware and exercising reasonable caution. Still loving your mix of beautiful cinematography, storytelling, and knowledge sharing 😊.
When u spend time alone, and all by yourself, your little amusement guy comes out to entertain you! And you start talking to plants and giving them names!
I can honestly say I NEVER been as ecstatic to see another person get BACK to the thing/life-style they love most. My heart is so happy for you! I hurt my knee last summer when a really bad current/wave at the beach pulled my 5 year old into the ocean. She wasn't even knee deep but the "under pull" was so BAD it just swept her into the ocean. I almost drowned and twisted my knee tossing her back towards the shore to her dad. Since then my knee has turned purple AND its been inflamed a few times. Seeing your videos gives me hope that I will be able to walk miles and miles down the beach again someday. Thank you for everything you and Erin do!
When you started filming the wolves, I was instantly shocked! it's just a very rare and special sighting see them..love it! In the years I've been hiking and camping in the western Rockies I have never encountered a wolf in real time. Beautiful!
My favorite winter camping video of yours.. The wolves had me sitting up in bed with a huge smile on my face! What a fantastic experience seeing them and it's all on video for you and us to relive it. The otter was neat to see as well. The night sky photos were stunning. Thank you for taking us along!
I carry bear spray out here in BC in the winter. Chances of needing it are maybe crazy slim, but it'll stop a desperate wolf or cougar just as well and they dont hibernate. having it on me could save my life and it is proven to work well below freezing still having said that, what an absolutely amazing encounter. I hear them howling all the time when Im out and see some huge tracks but never do i see them. not like that. Truly majestic. Jon, your journey's truly are the best. among other things, what sets you apart from other you tube bush campers is the time you spend focusing on nature and soaking up the atmosphere. not just filming camping chores and cooking. Love that too but your videos are so much more complete and literally fulfilling. Im sure you hear everyone say you are the best, and its true. :) now we just need to get you back in your canoe . :)
Your eye for the tiniest details, the delicate beauty of the natural world...very enjoyable. Happy chickadees and nuthatches, reading the tracks in the snow, the moods of the north country. So much good stuff in this video...I'll be watching it over and over. Your videos have become my 6 month old grandson's favorite thing for settling into naptime!
So much beautiful photography in this one. I especially loved the moonset (@37:20), the melting snow (@53:26), the fire in the woodstove, and of course, the otter and the wolves. Thank you!
Epic adventure!!! The music, the scenery, the wildlife, just incredible. Omg the wolves, ARE YOU KIDDING!!! Absolutely thrilling, easily one of your best trips yet 💚
Jon, as always an awesome treat! You make this look so easy, and for the population that maybe do not camp, canoe etc. like we do, they may think by watching these videos that this is easy to do! I just wanted to highlight that the quality of the videos you are producing is a direct reflection of the hard work you put in to it. It's not easy and not anyone can do it. Keep up the great hard work, and keep the content coming. Cheers buddy, Dave from Newfoundland.
Dude, you are lucky to be alive! That was no snowshoe hare: that was the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog! Death awaited you with nasty, big, pointy teeth! Glad you made it out alive! As always, love your video Jon!
This is one of your best videos to date. Incredible wildlife footage and equally amazing beauty shots of landscapes and skies. Your documentary style really makes me feel like we took the journey together. Well done.
That was a social call, a deliberate appearance for your benefit. They had already smelled you for days. If they regarded you as a threat one of the pack would have circled around without you knowing it. When the alpha stepped out and eyed you briefly I knew it was to let you know they accepted your presence in *their* territory-for now. Very definitely a Farley Mowat moment.
I think your right. That big lad waited about 30 seconds then strutted out. Was clear he was so big…very special to catch it. As you said, they likely had been watching for a few days
Just watching this, I can smell clean snow. Thanks for all the trouble you went to, I know how much gear it takes (not to mention time in editing and production. You've restored a piec of my soul.
Brother. I spend allot of time solo in the Tahoe National Forest. No Grizzly, but large black bears galore. Your bear threat or thoughts and intuition are justified, but your kidding yourself if you think your can of spray and that axe are true protection. When you get back, go to a gun store and get a Glock 20 10mm handgun, an extra magazine pouch, two magazines, a gun belt and a holster. I wear mine all the time in the mountains and even put my bear stray on the gun belt as well. As for the ammunition, get yourself some special “hard cast” 10mm ammo. The best IMHO is Buffalo Bore 220 grain hard cast. Made specifically for large predator defense and hunting. The heavy bullet will crush even the thick skull and large joints of a griz and penetrate to kill. I think a handgun by your side will give you solid piece of mind that you can defend yourself in the back country. Not to mention the two legged vermin as well. Love the videos.
Thoroughly enjoyed this docu-video... the wolves... WOW. Your talented eye behind the camera is exceptional and what initially drew me to your channel. You're knowledge and respect for the land and its inhabitants is refreshing and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Jon, thanks for another beautiful video and a peaceful trip into the Ontario wilderness. As an American it is so soothing to watch your videos in these turbulent political times with the most unfit person in American history run for president, the one who lacks an ounce of grace or class. So thank you for this escape.
What an amazing film. Thank you again for sharing and bringing us all along. The wolves were stunningand definitely knew you were there. Love your respect for the wild life, nature and even saying thank you to the pike.
I live in a small town in the black country, UK. Surrounded by concrete and industry. Thank you for taking me along with you on these epic journeys! One of my favourite videos in a long while, as for the wolves.....WOW.....
Jon all that matters is that "it means something to you" Nothing else matters as long as you are satisfied on your trip!! Great to watch mate & hope to see many more!!
Oh my ! This was the best vid ever I appreciate how you show every nuance of nature from the tiny little bug to the epic starry night; more star than night. Those wolves were sizing you up but I think maybe they had never seen man before. You are truly blessed to be able to do this. I always feel sad when your video ends. But can’t wait for the next one. Thank you for sharing
You no the things you accomplish in a canoe is out of this world how ever 10 day solo camping takes you into another demonstration of will power and perseverance my brother. One of your top videos by far.
I hope that the population growth for so many countries can be contained to the cities so that wilderness areas like these can always exist. Your camera work and editing is top notch and your capturing of the experience of sight and sound is second to none. I am consistently amazed at your ability to capture the details that share the experience of being there. From the majestic birds to the smallest insect, your attention to detail is amazing, thank you for your perception and sharing.
Turns out what was calling you to the ponds was the Call of the Wolves. I spent the entire evening watching this video, with a couple of beers, a warm firestove behind me, listening to the crackles of the flames, a break to my own nearby woods for walk, and back to watching another Canadian adventure courtesy Lost Lakes. Perfect Saturday.
Best video yet Jon. The views, the music, the nature, everything is outstanding. Thank you for taking us with you on your adventures. You are a true artist and are able to capture your trips so well. I feel like I’m out there enjoying the same scenes.
I love all the winter camping vids coming, but THIS was an absolute stunner and it has to be my favorite. It had everything you could dream of much love from austria 🥰
What a pleasure to observe your adventure..much more satisfying than anything playing in the theatre. Thank you, thank you again for filming this and telling this story of exploration and finding the peace that only comes from nature. Be Well Friend.......
Thank you for the wonderful video @Lost Lakes. Pls dont burn yourself out. After your knee injury - recovery , you are currently the most hard-going outdoors YTber i follow, by far. Also, i really appreciate the longer format videos, they are the best but evidently its very time-energy consuming for you to edit/post. Thanks for uploading your adventures and wish you all the best.
Man there is nothing to say short of amazing!!! Funny that I am on down time due to a torn meniscus and waiting for surgery on May 2nd. You transported me from my house in south Louisiana to one of the most beautiful place. Your photography is awesome. I felt as though i was on the trip with you. The fishing catch and cook was awesome. You had me a little nervous when you were on the ice that was cracking. You had me in such a tranquil place. Thank you so much man for the experience. I wait on your next video. God bless you and your family. And as always safe travels.
Thank you my friend! I was in the exact same boat this time last year. You've likely had it recommended many times, as I had, but the Knees Over Toes program seems to be the way to go. My knee is feeling great these days (most days) and I have no cartilage left in that knee after the surgery (it was too torn to be repaired). Walking backwards can be a great start. Stationary bike has also been good ruclips.net/user/thekneesovertoesguy
Well John… you continue to amaze me. I look so forward to your next video and you do not disappoint. All alone, frozen lake, not a lot happening, but I’m spellbound by it all…and then “wolves “! The fires, the food, the things in nature, the wind in the trees, the fishing, the riddles, the ice, the hare, your gift of filming, your music,….can you tell I’m a huge fan!! Thanks for sharing with us all!! Keep it up!!
What an amazing trip! My wife and I just moved out of the city and are excited to get out and explore our wild new home. Your videos are so well done they really inspire us to get outside as much as we can. Thanks for all the time and effort.
Jon, I have watched many of your videos and honestly love them all. This one, was one of the best for sure. All the animal tracks, the wolves!!! Wow. I am not the kind of person that could do this kind of adventure….let alone by myself but I sure do enjoy watching your adventures. So glad you are sharing them with us! God bless you as you continue to share this part of your life enjoying His creation. 💕🙏🏻🙂
The wolves rank right up there with Erin's Caribou experience! Wow! I think when you livein the monent, you live and experience the best life has to offer. Thanks for another fantastic adventure. You rock!
Jon, methinks you are Shingabis in human form. I loved that story as a child. As I was watching this video I was remembering that joyful duck. Thank you for sharing what delights and enchants you. Yum!
Every minute of this video was incredible. Sounds of nature that gave way to the close encounter of the snow hare, otter to the pack of wolves. Oscar winning video ❤. Thank you for this opportunity from a armchair on a cold NW IA winters night.
What a phenomenal trip! Some of the most beautiful shots you’ve ever taken in this video. I know it feels like winter is ending early, but I couldn’t help but think it kind of feels like you’ve made it past the injury now. It was one thing to tackle a few trips in the canoe post surgery, but to conquer the next winter after injury… just felt like the official end to that chapter. It will impact you the rest of your life, but not quite like it did this last year both physically and psychologically. Well done, man. Well done. A toast to you with a glass of Talisker in hand!
This is truly an incredible documentary. Your filming, expression, presentation style is interesting, informative, humorous, and full of the natural wonderment of nature that we all have found in watching this Incredible Journey. Perhaps the Wolves found the trout, trailed you giving honor. As you mentioned they understand Power, yes, as we do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, for listening to your inner voice. There are no accidents in life; chance and destiny collide to provide what YOU WILL. You are an Explorer. Good on ya!
The Wolf Encounter is something else! One of your best and most magic moments so far! Even through the Video one can feel the energy and power of these animals. It does not get any better, and you never fail to capture your encounters nicely. Thank you Jon.
Thank you for inspiration and good vibes. I really like the mix between you talking and telling about your thoughts and ideas and the more scenic parts with music and nature.

What a priviledge to be in that moment with those Wolves. "Beautiful" is an understatement. Im envious of your experience.

Two hours of rainy Friday bliss.
By far one of your best trips you have recorded. My heart started racing as those wolfs came in.
Thanks for bringing me winter. So missed. Another great trip report. You have a style and vibe that is like no one else doing this. Hard not to share your joy at seeing the wolves. Stunning. ❤
Thanks so much Greg! 💚
He SCORES! Great wolf siting! I could feel your excitement. Congrats!

thankyou Jon for the spectacular moment your shared with those wolves. Once in a lifetime for most of us; if that.
Agreed, do not cook in your tent during bear season. Even the “best” bears are unpredictable, they love to eat: carrion, jerry cans, skidoo seats….. and the fellas who sleep in grease laden tents.
i do cause i protect myself
Hairy peckers are 2-3 times larger than downy woodpeckers…. Thanks Jon
We all get to enjoy your adventures! 👍
Thanks for another awesome video. Can’t wait to watch tonight with my wife.

And the Nathan Moore - Checkmate a minute in. Got the chills! Not camping 10 days in the winter chills. But the good ol' new Lost Lakes chills.
😆😁
So many awesome wildlife moments in this video! Great moments, thanks for sharing them!
I'm in New Zealand and we have no bears here. So yeah, wintertime we have no bears to worry about. No snakes. Some venomous spiders but they're pretty rare.
Love your hot tent set up.
45:30 This music track is turning into the theme of the channel, absolutely loving it.
I agree, that piece is so contemplative and beautiful - perfect for his montages and drone shots.

When u spend time alone, and all by yourself, your little amusement guy comes out to entertain you!
And you start talking to plants and giving them names!
Jon, those rocks were gorgeous! Sorry you lost your hat🫤. Love all of yours and Erin’s videos! Keep ‘em roll’n!
Incredible experience with the three Wolves!! Awesome video as always, Jon!! Happy trails!
The drone footage adds a lot. Agree the wind blown snow is beautiful!
Truly appreciate that! :) If the above average temperatures continue I'm hoping to be back in the canoe in just a few weeks
Sweeeeeet !
Those wolves...wow. So special. Great job capturing that.
Aw thank you! 💚
Kept checking my notifications and finally , you posted . Cold night in NYC and this is my entertainment for the night. Love form NYC bro
So good , I didn’t want the video to end !
Those wolves were gorgeous. How incredible to witness them in their own habitat! Yet another beautiful film, truly special.
So much beautiful photography in this one. I especially loved the moonset (@37:20), the melting snow (@53:26), the fire in the woodstove, and of course, the otter and the wolves. Thank you!
The Friday night dream come true!!! off to watch!!
Epic adventure!!! The music, the scenery, the wildlife, just incredible. Omg the wolves, ARE YOU KIDDING!!!
Absolutely thrilling, easily one of your best trips yet 💚
Thanks so much BC!!
Thanks so much Dave!
Dude, you are lucky to be alive! That was no snowshoe hare: that was the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog! Death awaited you with nasty, big, pointy teeth!
Glad you made it out alive!
As always, love your video Jon!
😜😜 Thank you!
Haha, and I'll bet he didn't bring a change of armor. :)
This is one of your best videos to date. Incredible wildlife footage and equally amazing beauty shots of landscapes and skies. Your documentary style really makes me feel like we took the journey together. Well done.
Very much appreciated!
“Light on the scotch…Heavy on the food…questionable” 😂
So many beautiful shots. Great editing too! You've become such an experienced artist. I've enjoyed watching all your progress over the years.
Thank you! 🙂🙂
How Beautiful 🫠❤
He’s in Canada so I’m not sure he can.
2hrs of expert level content and editing with our favorite creator...this is awesome!
Damn that fish looked good
Thoroughly enjoyed this docu-video... the wolves... WOW.
Your talented eye behind the camera is exceptional and what initially drew me to your channel.
You're knowledge and respect for the land and its inhabitants is refreshing and inspiring.
Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Thank you so much 🙂🙂
Jon, thanks for another beautiful video and a peaceful trip into the Ontario wilderness.
42:50 I could frame this. Great colors. Such an eye for detail, You’re an artist Jon. 👏 love your videos .
Woo hooo! I’m so excited to watch this tonight!! Nothing like a fresh Lost Lakes video dropping after a long week at work. Perfect timing. 🎉👏🏻
You no the things you accomplish in a canoe is out of this world how ever 10 day solo camping takes you into another demonstration of will power and perseverance my brother. One of your top videos by far.
Wow! What a trip! Beautiful natural surroundings and wildlife. Enjoyed watching this trip very much and the riddles were a fun addition. Thanks Jon🙂
Excellent video! No wait..........Excellent film/documentary! Once again, we enjoyed our evening with you! L&T
Thank you both! 😊
Thanks for the most memorable most fabulous adventure ever
I hope that the population growth for so many countries can be contained to the cities so that wilderness areas like these can always exist.
Your camera work and editing is top notch and your capturing of the experience of sight and sound is second to none. I am consistently amazed at your ability to capture the details that share the experience of being there. From the majestic birds to the smallest insect, your attention to detail is amazing, thank you for your perception and sharing.
Thank you so much :)
Another extraordinary video, Jon,thank you! Love the wildlife! Crazy balmy winter here in northern MI as well!
Thank you!! 👋
What a pleasure to observe your adventure..much more satisfying than anything playing in the theatre. Thank you, thank you again for filming this and telling this story of exploration and finding the peace that only comes from nature. Be Well Friend.......
I sure admire your love of camping. I know I wouldn't be able to stand that. Please be safe..
Really enjoyed this one! Such beautiful shots of our amazing country! ♥ Thank you for taking us with you!
Stationary bike has also been good

@@LostLakes yea I’m ready to get back camping and kayaking
I love the music, so glad your knee is a lot better. super great video . I really enjoyed this trip.
Simple living indeed. Blue sky, white snow, bright sun, black shadows and warm fire. Can feel the solitude, peace and quiet. Great job, wonderful vlog
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much!
The wolves rank right up there with Erin's Caribou experience! Wow! I think when you livein the monent, you live and experience the best life has to offer. Thanks for another fantastic adventure. You rock!
Been binge watching ur vids. Currently stuck at home for 3 months bc of broken femur from moto accident. I enjoy ur work!!
I feel your pain... Hang in there
Jon, methinks you are Shingabis in human form.
Thank you for sharing. These treasures of our times..they should inspire many ..to help preserve our wild places.
Much appreciated! Keeping up the physio ever since and hope to keep it strong for the decades ahead :)
Much appreciated!
