You do more "living" in one month than most of us do in thirty years. There's all sorts of reasons why most people can't do what you do. Either because of obligations or medical conditions, disabilities, and so on. If we can't get out there, then the next best thing is to see it vicariously through someone else. I don't expect I'll ever get to visit Spain or Japan or South Africa, but getting to see it through others is nice. Plenty of other people say something to this effect, but I'd have to literally tap out a whole book on my phone here to even come close to conveying the depth of this: Really, truly, sincerely, thank you for sharing so much of yourself with all us strangers out here. I don't know if you've ever been kept from going out there for an indeterminate amount of time, but... I guess imagine it like you were kept from someone you love, and you know that you may never see them again with your own eyes. How appreciative you would be to still be able to see them remotely, through pictures, little recordings, video diaries. To be able to see how they've grown and changed, and to know that they're alright, and doing well. Living happily. So many people are practically kept from the natural world these days, and we're very appreciative to be able to check in. To see that the plants are still growing, the fish are still swimming, the world still provides, and that there's still such beauty out there. Over the decades some of the beauty and wonder of the world was only visible through things like documentaries and publications. As wonderful as some of the things they've captured are, they don't convey reality too well. It's all so corporatized, and over produced. It's like it's all an act. When there's movie stars we enjoy, we like listening to interviews or personal takes because the reality is inherently more compelling than only seeing them in a role, on a film. What if when you spoke with your daughters they only read from a script, and played a role. That would be heartbreaking, because you don't want them to just read from a script, you want to see "them" and know "them". The "real" them. Not an idealistic version presented by the British Broadcasting Corporation. You bring more to us than just yourself, you give us a front row seat to the natural world, in all it's rawness and honesty. And you're the shepherd. I could easily go on until I exhaust the character limit of the comments section. Never has so few words been used to convey so much, in so little time: Thank you, for everything.
Regarding the four season hammock video request. Can you also put the words homeless and refugees in the vid title to help the world's 200+ million homeless find it. Keep me updated if you make such a charity vid. Kind regards.

Greg is a really special guy, its hard to find someone so care free and goofy. I hope that he can earn enough money from his awesome channel to actually live off the land. I really love the inventive trap design videos!
I noticed that too. Its weird. Doesn't look easy, or natural. I normally cast by opening the reel, holding the line with my index finger and the rod gripped between thumb and the other three fingers right where the reel attaches to the rod. I then flick the rod with my wrist releasing the line when the rod is pointing where I want it to go. It is really accurate and you get right in under low hanging tree branches etc etc. It's kind of like how I learned to shoot a pistol from the waist too. Eye hand coordination. In some situations, there are milliseconds to react and no time to look down the sights, See a fish swirl the surface and drop your hook on that exact spot, or drop your round on the bad guy before he sees you move.
He casts two handed , he hangs onto the line and let's go of it with one hand while swinging the rod with the other . Takes a bit of coordination but effective . I learned to fish that way as a little kid , still use it some times for close casts. He casts left handed though that throws him of ballance , I would fall into the lake trying that . LOL . Looks like them bears got him and Zack spooked real good .

I was very skeptical about this movie but I’m honored to have watched it in it’s entirety. The knowledge and humble sentiment throughout was awesome!! I learned a lot in such a short period of time. Congratulations to you both you did it!!! 🎉😊 I grew up in Western Washington hiking/camping, Love it ALL!! ✨💧❄️🌎❄️💧✨
Me too, I am not an outdoors person but I do like watching things like this and rather than watching people suffer like on the show alone these guys are out enjoying themselves it's a refreshing take
how many people have mentioned the shark's fin surfacing on the lake when Zac is fishing (5:30 minutes) into the movie? I like little things like that! very impressed with the whole movie and how it's all put together...top guys
I would absolutely love to go camping with Greg to learn even more from him. I really love his no-nonsense approach: He doesn't explain the whole life story. He's just saying, " Here's what I'm doing. Come and watch, and I'll tell you what's what."
I would love to see a competition where the winner or winners get to come out and partake in a wilderness challenge adventure with Mr.Ovens and Mr.Fowler.
One of the things that I love about this is that you can see the mistakes and imperfections and even the occasional clumsiness. So many of the survival shows out there present the guide as impossibly perfect, speeding from one seamlessly executed solution to the next. This gives you more the sense that, even if you have years of experience, nature will refuse to cooperate, forcing you back on your heels and making you adapt. It's also a much more immersive and wholistic presentation. You feel like you are actually living with them, instead of just following them from one DIY tutorial to the next. And finally, I respect the fact that these guys had enough confidence and humility to leave their mistakes and imperfections unedited, trusting that the audience will find them more relatable and honest, and ultimately see that their knowledge and execution speak for themselves. Well put together, and the authenticity actually makes the challenges and the necessary skills clearer for the viewer.
These guys: literally forging for food and surviving off the land Me: lying in bed eating my Halloween candy praying I would never have to snap the neck of a fish. Keep workin hard seriously this is so impressive.
This is much more entertaining than anything Hollywood could produce. Great job surviving in the woods for 30 days and also kudos to the cameraman for amazing work!
Mr. Ovens you are a treasure trove of knowledge, thank you for making your awesome content, teaching us, instructing us and your enthusiasm in what you do, your love for nature and it's creatures. Thank you!
Brannon Schussler I am, as well as most people who romanticize the outdoors. Many great books have been written on the disillusionment of the modern man when they romanticize nature and then actually go live in it, rough living hurts and isnt for most people
I think he would clean up nicely. If I was out in the forest with him, he looks absolutely gorgeous. I love his channel, I watch Greg all the time. This is not the first time I've watched his movie. Great watch. I keep a backpack filled with stuff to survive ready at all times. Never know-- the way this world is going. I'm a 65 yr. Old woman trying to survive.
its me again, two years later and i still love watching it! you guys are so amazing, my little cousin love to watch it to although hes just 8 years old. greezz from germany again guys!! peace and freedom
like those guys who pay 5000 for fishing tackle, go for a weekend, throw the lot back then come home and spend 100s more on farmed fish to eat. I love decent tools and good quality equipment as much as the next man, but all the best tools are now antique. mostly these days thing like that are just to boost ego and confidence and try look the part to impress others. a good knife or axe is enough.. hell man survived long enough without even that
This has got to have been the best thing I've ever sat and watched thank you for documenting and sharing this journey with us all you are a fountain of knowledge and the ratchet system you had going for your rod blew my mind!
I'm one of the tribes living in Borneo, the world's oldest rainforest...the part about building a net for fish is so on point..u never relax if ure in the woods because u got so little bright time and so much material to use and create things.
The world is full of food but it sure is hard to get. You guys are doing a great job of demonstrating why people started farming. I love what you're doing though. Not hypothetical situations, and not in an absolute peril situation like les stroud. As awesome as he is. This is just like about what two guys can do with some basic modern resources. I guess you two could bug out if you had to.
I’m thinking Greg is a true biologist in plants and fish also true conservationist in any situation eating the local fawna is best fish or meat is just a frosting so to speak awesome video
Better than going on gov't food assistance if you have no land to farm on, (or a house to live in that you can afford),,,oh snap doesn't he start planting things in certain areas that he goes?🤔 I think it was with Amos' Rodriguez, (21 day challenge on Vancouver Island) he planted radish😏🤷♀️
There's a guy from the UK called Ray Myers and the contrast between him and Bear Grylls is amazing. Grylls will drink water from elephant dung or his own urine etc, Ray Myers does all the standard survival stuff but he makes things like fish steamed for 8 hours wrapped in a banana leaf with herbs and spices that look better than any dinner I cook. In my opinion he's way better than Bear Grylls because he makes survival seem fun

You should also check out the dude that stayed on a volcanic island for 300 days living of the land, it was the best movie I've ever seen, this one here also comes close, id love to do this kind of thing 😍
@@anthonylagan9486 I’ve watched that video 3 times haha it’s amazing 👌🏼
I watch them all, well working on it. I enjoy watching Greg's adventures. Well done Greg
Every time he casts I expect the rod to go flying in the lake lol
He knows! lol
Bass Jump Blues
If he does, that’s really funny....
not yet at least :)
Ovens Rocky Mountain Bushcraft
Keep practicing, you’re getting there lol
@@piscator57 Well he's no Bill Dance, hahaha.
So good to have someone that knows plants.
I’ve watched this front to back 4 times now and watched Fowler’s twice.
I truly hope you both do another 30 day again 👌🏻❤️
I am learning so much from you both!! It looks so challenging yet..sooo rewarding to have survival skills knowing GOD PROVIDES MANKIND WITH ALL HE NEEDS ON THIS EARTH TO SURVIVE AND ENJOY THE MAJESTY OF HIS GLORY AND HIS POWER!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤PRAISE ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love how one is like "this plant does this and this that and..." and the other one likes to build stuff and eats anything

Congratulations to you both you did it!!! 🎉😊 I grew up in Western Washington hiking/camping, Love it ALL!! ✨💧❄️🌎❄️💧✨
there is one at 21:43 also. it doesn't show up on my laptop but when viewed on my big screen tv it is easily visible
there a shark in the lac at some point near the start and after 21:30 there somoene standing behind
the knowledge these guys have is wicked, the production is raw and relaxing. I'd watch these films over Bear Gryll's any-day.
Vast knowledge of plant edibles, clearly not there first rodeo. Great way to make a fishing pole.
175bpm is crazy fast lol 😂
These guys show what it's actually like out there, with the right knowledge
I'd rather grill bears than bear Grylls
Me too, I am not an outdoors person but I do like watching things like this and rather than watching people suffer like on the show alone these guys are out enjoying themselves it's a refreshing take
You're a real man's man. Enjoyed every minute of this adventure.
Cause women can’t possibly accomplish this 🙄

I thought of this comment at 28:00 lol
@Chadescu yea no
how many people have mentioned the shark's fin surfacing on the lake when Zac is fishing (5:30 minutes) into the movie?
I like little things like that! very impressed with the whole movie and how it's all put together...top guys
Me too I had to check the comments to see if anyone else saw it.
I saw it also, thought it was CGI for hummer. What ever it was it was big.
Yeah even the UFO
Did you see the guy behind him at the fire? 22:00
@@WextonMiller omg me too!!
I would absolutely love to go camping with Greg to learn even more from him. I really love his no-nonsense approach: He doesn't explain the whole life story. He's just saying, " Here's what I'm doing. Come and watch, and I'll tell you what's what."
These videos r the only thing motivating me to continue my fort in the woods.
Yep I started one too in the woods by my house. So much fun
Cool
Your comment should be in the opening credits of this movie. Well said!
So. In short... you also agree these guys are bad asses. 🤘🏼😍
Perfect words!
Yes,I agree 100%
Can we acknowledge how much skill and effort they put into editing this on top of everything else? Very impressive.
These guys: literally forging for food and surviving off the land
Me: lying in bed eating my Halloween candy praying I would never have to snap the neck of a fish.
Keep workin hard seriously this is so impressive.
Bro mood, I would love to do this though it looks like a challenge but fun

Not as much dream but I would really like to do this
@erik iverson yeah English is just a language same like others so kindly don't take it Serious as rod🙄
This is much more entertaining than anything Hollywood could produce. Great job surviving in the woods for 30 days and also kudos to the cameraman for amazing work!
When he slipped, fell and split his legs 😂
That face was some amazing acting!
I normally don’t watch videos this long, but it’s so dang interesting that I can’t put it down! Y’all are super!👍👍👍👏👏👏

Theodore Bundy sounds like you’re speaking for yourself
Theodore Bundy I was just about to say that 😂
Brannon Schussler I am, as well as most people who romanticize the outdoors. Many great books have been written on the disillusionment of the modern man when they romanticize nature and then actually go live in it, rough living hurts and isnt for most people

You were so great on Alone! Thanks for getting me inspired to start a channel. Fellow BC girl here. ❤
Outstanding movie! Your singing "Jeremiah Johnson" certainly did it justice.
Its just the way most British Columbian's grew up. Not so much now days with all the so called "new Canadians".
Bear Grylls secretly watching for pro tips and tricks.....
You know Its Bushcraft not Survival , they have Tools ,not just a Knife and a Fire Starter like Bear he drink a Beer :)
