The look of joy on Conan's face when Steve transforms into Stan is genuine ♥️
How Coogan and Reily didn't get an oscar for Stan and Ollie, it will always baffle me no matter what!
Because the film just wasn’t that good. It was very touching tribute. But it just never hit a stride
John C reilly should have deserved an oscar a while ago.
He is such an underrated actor. The extense of quality movies he has starred in is baffling.
He is almost as good as that other guy. Dr brule
The oscars are so overrated nowadays.
It gets even more stupid when you realize that the lineup included 4 performances in biopics and only one of them (Dafoe) was worthy of a nomination.
I firmly believe that Coogan is one of the great creative comedic minds of his generation.
Coogan is a treasure. Stan & Ollie truly was brilliant. It managed to be whimsical but still portray their relationship in a very real way.
I think Coogan deserved oscar for portraying Stan Laurel
effing right
Well a nomination for sure! Performance was outstanding, as was John c's
Peek Bee both actors did
Yes agree. Did Robert Downey jr. became a nomination for playing Chaplin?
@@lesterpaul9657 His most underrated movie.
I love Steve Coogan. He takes impressions to another level. Like Conan says, it's like he becomes the person.
This is great banter, it really is.
Textbook.
You know what you are.... You are a big posh sod, with plums in your mouth!!
Kiss my face!
smell my cheese !!
its not as good as it was but it's still very good
Seen the movie 3 times. Cried every time. Both Steve and John did an amazing portrayal
So pleased you mentioned the other actor ( sorry forgot his name). Watched the movie at the cinema myself. Found the experience very moving!.
Stan and Ollie is a wonderful film. Coogan and Reilly are both superb in it. And frankly superb in pretty much everything they do. Two enormously underappreciated talents.
The ladies who played their wives were pretty good too.
Well, he did it more than 3 times in a row! So, it's a definite Hat Trick!
Axess2084 four times bud.
@@ArnoldClarke Hence why I said 'more than 3 times'. ;-)
Axess2084 if the trick was holding his pants up it could be a double brace!
I’ll get my coat.
@@ArnoldClarke I'll hold the door for you so your pants don't fall down!
;•>
Their performances were both 10/10. I hope whoever did the casting for this movie got a raise!
I think Stan would be proud of Steve Coogan's work as the silent film legend, growing up I watched the Laurel and Hardy films with my grandad and to this day he asks me about and we just talk about these iconic and era changing men. I wish I could thank them for bringing in both me and my grandad's lives from two different generations.
He truly became Stan laurel. Fantastic portrayal.
He turned into Laurel in front of my eyes....
Finally got a chance to see this film, which has been on my list for a while. Wow, talk about am emotional gut punch! Great job by Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the main characters. They really brought these two characters and real men to life.
Absolutely beautiful movie about Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Coogan and Reilly did a fantastic job.
Loved the film, doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.
Does anything? It's either too much or none at all.
I'm guilty if watching some of those comic book movies, but it does not get any better that great actors doing what they do and not using green screen and cgi, just a good story, real if possible and good acting, it's been awhile since I've seen that.
Both performances deserved oscars, it wasn’t acting, they became laurel and hardy. Bravo
When this film was first announced many thought it would be a flop but boy did they take back what they said as a fan of laurel and hardy I gave the film a go and must say a great film and a great tribute to the greatest comedy duo ever
I had great fortune to meet Stan in Santa Monica in 1964. A genuinely kind man. Steve does an excellent portrayal too!
That hand grab at the end. That's the power of acting, the truth in the moment. Coogan is super talented.
Nobody else on this planet could have recreated Stan Laurels mannerisms so well. Ah haa
I didn’t see Stan & Ollie advertised we just winged it at the cinema one night and it was a fantastic surprise. One of the best films I’ve seen in recent memory.
The pathos of the last gesture just sums up the warm-hearted friendliness of the Laurel and Hardy message.
Ollie originally worked in construction at Hal Roach Studios when he was personally spotted by Stan! Stan had just come to Hollywood from England and found it hard to work alone on pictures so Hal Roach told Stan he'd find him some acting partners! Jerry Lewis said that when Stan and Ollie first met in Hal Roach's office Stan said to Ollie "How would you like to be in show business?" And Ollie said "Well it's gotta be better than what they're paying me for this!!!"
Even though Ollie seemed more like the straight guy in the act, Stan was actually more less Ollie's boss because he knew more what he was doing! Ollie wasn't always dedicated to the work and would often skip out and play golf while Stan stayed at the studio and wrote the scripts, and did all the work! He would often have to use stand ins for rehearsals but when filming time came, Stan would simply inform Ollie where to stand on set and Ollie never missed his mark!
Very sweet. Steve and Conan fell in love in the end.
God Steve Coogan is incredibly talented. Not sure he gets quite the credit he deserves.
Loved that movie and love Laurel and Hardy, Steve and John did a great performance.
That was probably one of the most beautiful movies ever made.
Alan Partridge is one of the best characters ever created and Coogan was the perfect actor for the role.
Stan & Ollie is a fantastic movie. Saw it last year and both actors did a incredibly good performance in it
It is a great movie. My wife, who isn't a L&H fan, really liked it because it was about the two men and not their characters on the screen. The movie brought them to life and regular people. You could relate to them.
Dang! As someone who has watched much of their stuff and grew up watching babes in toyland every Christmas I gotta say Coogan NAILED that impression! Lol
I thought I was one of the only people that made that a Christmas staple.
Watched it last night, it was soo good.
Can’t help but love the Cooges. Effortlessly funny and charming
I love Steve Coogan's look at the moment. Very cool kind of dapper.
Picnicl He's definitely got the Alan partridge sports casual look sorted
@@Thecrazyvaclav L'homme du sport
Great movie thank you for making it. Watched it many times.
Outstanding film
i just realized how close his voice is to Mr Laurel
Coogan is class, the United Kingdom just create great comedians over and over
93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
With all the crap the film industry throws out at people, this restores some of my faith in the art form.
Saw the movie. Lovely, bittersweet story.
Coogan gets me every time.
That hand touch was beautiudlfil
I used to watch babes in toyland every Christmas! One of my faves!
I still watch March of the Wooden Soldiers every Thanksgiving morning, a holiday classic.
Coogan did a great Laurel and Downy Jr. also did a great Chaplin.
love it!
Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton - if there was a Mount Rushmore of comedy, these four are it
Absolutely. Are you a Three Stooges fan?
@@rishichakravarti9384 3 stooges were soo funny
Abbott and Costello are my team.
Rodney Dangerfield too
Modern day one should have coogan on it
Genius!
Great movie, 2 great actors 👏🏻
I love blood guts and horror. But I loved this film I had a soppy smile on my face all the way through. Been a life long fan.
😆the brilliant steve coogan
Great movie and great acting!
Great film great acting
More! More! Two delightful men!
I hope conan never hangs it up ... unlike boxed wine, he keeps getting better with age
Some people age like fine wine; others age like fine cheese.
He quite literally becomes Stan Laurel. Imperceptibly. Pure genius
very underrated film!
The Trip to Greece is out soon too. Good times.
It's a talent oooze off with these two!😍🥰🤣
Stan and Ollie - an amazing movie!
Classic queen
A gorgeous movie. I’m 20 and had to introduce my friends to laurel and Hardy by showing them this movie and clips online. When I was about 16 I think I got to see the laurel and Hardy meuseam in Georgia.
No Conan please you have a long career ahead of you, you're still by far the best out there, whether it's sketches, conan without borders, or your interviews (maybe bring back clueless gamer pls) nobody does it as good as you!
You can tell at the end that they're going to go home together.
Steve Coogan is a living legend. And kudos to Conan for getting rid of the desk. This format is much better and intimate.
good point! that stupid desk prop goes a long way back to Jack Paar, Steve Allen and probably earlier. "don't mess with the formula" some uncreative, nameless exec has said over and over throughout the years. Dave Letterman always had his chair much higher than his guests too, besides manspreading his crotch in their face. Funny and sad.
That movie is indeed beautiful.
The clip ended right when it started getting interesting. C'mon, Conan.... you cant just leave us hanging like that!
Great trick with the bowler
Steve coogan is incredible
A couple of my co-workers are old enough to catch it when I do that pursed-lip nod at 1:39. I'm amazed that I've had to explain who Laurel and Hardy were to a couple of "kids" -- yeah, "OK, Boomer", I get it -- and both times, the response was, "They were before me." Well, they were before me, too, but I know who they were. How can you not have your hand on the pulse of classic entertainment and not know who they were? "Now, I share a birthday with Harold Lloyd ... do you know who that was?"
Loved this, Conan; I too love the comedy classics, including Oliver and Hardy, despite my young age. 😊 Coogan's voice and impressions of Stan Laurel were spot on.
There is no off position on the genius switch
Horribly under appreciated film. Makeup and acting were amazing.
I think audiences were expecting a full-on comedy.
Was it under appreciated? It got very good reviews from Critics and in Britain it was at the top of the box office charts at one point. Or do you mean it should have got awards?
Mr. Coogan really did an incredible performance, perfectly replicating Stan's mannerisms and voice.
In some ways even more impressive was John C. Reilly's portrayal of Oliver Hardy.
Their movie they did was a wonderful tribute to two true comedy legends.
Coogan is one of he greatest impressionists ever.
2:00
That's some hand dexterity right there
He uses the power of the bird.
Coogan is a true master of his art
Conan is the only late night host I can tolerate. That being said, I must see this movie!
Great movie
A very good film
Stan & Ollie remain the funniest comedy act, and duo in the history of our planet.
They should be prescribed as a cure for depression, they just cheer me up like nothing else
Dost thou neglect to mention The great Brothers of Chuckle?!
Wow he does look like Stan Laurel he put on an amazing performance
Man ... at 1:25 .. that short speech and that nodding and all ... he became Stan Laurel ... just like that ! I know, I've followed them from the early 1970s ... and I know Laurel's voice and antics ...
It is a beautiful, touching film and about time it was made.
He used to drink in my local boozer in Brighton before he became mega famous. Great impressionist and actor.
Yes! If you’d like you see another review of the movie, you should check this one out that talks about the background of Laurel and Hardy ruclips.net/video/RKj4LhMg1x4/видео.html
You can see Stan himself doing this great trick in the films Towed in a Hole and Bonnie Scotland.
Yep its a great movie, they look so much like them.- Good job !!
I just watched the movie last weekend. Great comedy
He did it (at least) three times. So, it's a hat-trick hat-trick
baddmanaz well observed my friend. Well observed.
Damnit I need to see the film. Steve was fantastic in this clip.
Fantastisk.
That is a great film...
I loved the movie
Conans never gunna slow down, because we love him too much! Endless Comedy!
Steve coogan analystic genius
The Laural & Hardy Flick was in and out of the theatre far too fast. I wanted to see it, but it was gone by the time I could fit it into my schedule.
Where I live, it only played at one small arthouse theater a few towns over, and it was gone after like three weeks. I didn't even know it was playing there until it was too late, and I was so miffed about missing it. I watched it at home last week, and loved every second of it.
@@TheTrainFan9 It has gotten to a point that they can show a movie on NetFlix and make more money than in the Theatre.
This is liquid interviewing
Coogan, Reilly & O'Brien ...they sound like a firm of Irish Undertakers.
Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges are the real deal for me!
Add Abbott and Costello, The Marx Brothers, Rodney Dangerfield, Don Rickles, Jerry Lewis and Robin Williams to that list and it's perfect.
From a time where comedy was pure visual.. you could turn the sound off and play it to anyanyone and they would find it funny.
