I just bought a set of these yesterday for my 2023 Passport AWD! I scrubbed the sidewall of the OEM CrossContact Sport on a curb and destroyed a tire. Replaced all 4 with the Pirelli Scorpions. The steering response is much better and I can FEEL the road through the steering wheel (the OEM Continentals were quieter but they had dead steering). The Pirellis do drive more planted. I have a Lexus RX AWD that came with Crapstone Ecopias that didn’t last past 22,000 miles. I put Pirelli Scorpions on & was amazed at how good they performed in the Texas Snowpocalypse last year!
I literally just put a set of these on my ‘04 BMW X5 three days ago. They replaced a set of Michelin MXV4 All Seasons which were the OEM tires. In addition to being slightly less money than the Michelin’s, the warranty is better and they are absolutely silent on the road. I researched tires and read road test reviews before making my decision and for all the naysayers out there, Tire Rack tested these against several other top rated All Season SUV tires and declared these the overall winner. No paid promotion there, just doing what they do every day. We had a major rainstorm the day after I installed them and these tires were rock solid in near flooding conditions at freeway speeds. They handle well, they ride well and we will see how they wear. They also took almost no weight which is always a sign of a quality tire. They were also on sale for $140.00 off the regular price of 4 which is always nice. So far, I’m extremely happy. Time will tell.
They should have used the "Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus" for this test, which is an all-weather tire with mountain snowflake rating. The one tested here is a conventional all season M+S tire. The way to remember which is which is by looking at the tread pattern: the all terrain Scorpion has the P & S block pattern that is very unique (and great for marketing, yet missed out here).
My Bronco Sport came with 225/65/17 Scorpion ATRs. Swapped them out with 245/65/17 Scorpion All Terrain Plus. The AT+ is way better than the ATRs off road and in snow.
I have been using Michelin Defender LTX M/S with 70,000 warranty ( I have put 80,000+) for more then 15 years on my 99 Astro and 2004 Explorer in Minnesota and now Utah and they have done great on all kind of terrain and they have done great and now I have a Ford Flex and I use Defender T/H just because I don’t have the clearance to take it off-road
I recently rented a Ford explorer just 2 x 4 with these tires ... Went to Yosemite with expected snow fall of two stories ... They actually did really well with minimal slippage
I've owned a set of Pirelli Ice Zero FR winter tires for a few years (for my 2015 Elantra) and I've been more than impressed by their performance. This year I was caught out a bit by an early light snowfall and had to drive home from work one day on my 'all-season' (aka three season) tires and was able to compare it to worse conditions a couple weeks later when I'd changed over to the Pirellis and the difference was night and day, especially when accelerating from a stop sign. As I own a two wheel drive car I'd rather have the extra traction of dedicated winter tires.
My experience is a new all season tire does alright in the winter but turns to crap as the tread depth goes down. A snow tire has good snow performance through most of it's life. These tests are always on new tires while the real world we use that 70k promise. I have three vehicles and a dedicated winter wheel set for each. Being able to use more of the life of the tire maybe equals out to no additional cost. In the past I'd be buying new all seasons in the fall with 40% tread remaining.
Hit it on the head, I actually ran these tires as my last set and performance as the tread went down was night and day, even the noise on the road was something awful, which is normal for older tires but this was unlike other tires
Yeah I will say that’s one of the main reasons I that makes me want to replace my cross climate with the same thing again because while these get great reviews I know the cc2 is really the only one so far that’s been shown to preform really well all the way down to 2/32 I’m 45k in now and have around 6/32 left and just went though winter and heavy rains and I noticed not one single bit of reduced grip from new. So good that my other car with Toyo a36 granted not a good tire but brand new 9/32 and they felt like they have significantly less traction in the heavy rain it was a totally different league, so different that if I didn’t think it was a waste I would swap them immediately, hence the reason I have been looking
Hard to switch from my Michelins defenders . Can easily hit 70k miles and sometimes upwards of 80k miles on a set! They’re smooth, quiet , and great in the rain! Perfect highway tire
I'm actually looking for a good all season tire and did some research. I do a good amount on the highway so having smooth quiet reliable tires with a bonus of 70k miles is a must for me. I think between the 2 tires Pirelli Scorpion vs Michelin Defenders I'm going to go with the Defenders.
I'm not much of a Pirelli fan but these tires seem pretty good. In my experience brand new all season m+s tires perform OK in winter but when they get a bit worn, winter performance goes down a lot.
I'm a big Perilli fan as this tire transformed the quietness and comfort of my Toyota into Lexus territory. Traction, handling, stability, and tread life, are also great. It's the best all rounder in my opinion.
@Hazem Been driving in snow this past week and at first wasn't sure if this would be its Achille's heel but it was more confidence inspiring and demonstrably better traction than any all-season tire I've ever owned both on my Camry and my wife's Highlander (we both changed our tires late 2022). Always had mainly Michelins before this (Defender, LTX Latitude, Primacy). It's the best all-rounder for my preferences. CC2 was 2nd choice due to more road noise, less comfort, less life than the AS plus 3. I couldn't have lived with the CC2 waiting all year for a few days of snow or ice for the
@@briank10101 This is helpful info. I would have to downsize from my OE 275 width to 265 to get the Michelin defender (which will make the tire not only narrower, but the sidewall shorter also), or I can get these Pirelli’s. Would you say the Pirelli all season plus 3 is comparable in snow to the Defender Ltx? I need to order today or tomorrow!
The Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 are one of the higher rated dry/wet tires on TireRack reviews and scores very well on their dry and wet track tests, comparable to the Michelin Cross Climate 2 without being a directional tire, allowing for criss cross tire rotations.
I have these tires and I'm convinced that anybody who says these tires are junk when it comes to slippery weather they just don't know how to drive I live up in the mountains in the country I have no problem I'm in two wheel drive 90% of the time even in the winter so I guess there's a lot of people out there just don't know how to drive me on the other hand I've been driving in conditions like this my whole life and I've never ran a winter tire all seasons that's all you need
Thank you for posting this! I am buying a 2024 Volvo XC90 at the end of the year and these are the tires that Volvo have on the XC90. I live in Colorado and wanted to know how well these tires will handle all that Colorado can throw at us especially from September to May. I really just need to know how long do I have before I need to replace them with Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires as I am a Michelin kind of guy!
Just ordered these yesterday but I did some research prior to ordering. I mostly do highway and some light off-road but wanted some better than my last Michelin tire primacy tour as because they didn’t last as long and the rough roads here in California. I got about 20k miles out of the 55k max range. I rotated them every 5k miles and still didn’t last. I asked Michelin about the warranty and they refused they told me because I’m in California they wouldn’t honor the warranty. I hope these Pirelli as plus 3 hold up even though reviews have been better for them than the Michelin tires I had. My car is a 2012 Mazda cx9 awd grand touring
The problem with this test is they are trying out a tire on an already VERY capable off road/snow vehicle. So regardless, what type of tire you put on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's always going to perform well because it's a Jeep. They should have tested this tire on a AWD Honda CRV or Chevy Equinox etc...Which have basic AWD systems and don't have any locking diffs or off road modes.
I sure hope Pirelli is making tires better than the ones on the two vehicles I owned that came with Pirelli Scorpions. Neither vehicle had tires that were round. I changed the tires on both vehicles at about 25K miles because as the tire wore down the worse the vibration became.
So I have these tires on my 2012 Jeep Liberty there good tires I don't have a problem with them in the snow or on the trail I mean I also know how to drive so that plays a big factor but there's a lot of people that say this tire is junk I think those are people that are buy these tires and don't know how to drive or they don't realize they're buying a All Season Tire not a all-terrain tire
I just bought these tires two weeks ago for my Jeep. They have been nothing but a disappointment. They ride rough over concrete pavement/feel every bump. I thought this would be a quiet tire but it failed to give me the results that Pirelli said it would. I will be returning these tires and try an other brand.
I will buy a all-season tire free time over a winter tire I bought tires just a couple times in my life and I was not impressed at all I can find places with a regular all season and I can use them all year round
This was difficult to watch. I understand that sponsors are important to growing the channel, but this feels more used car salesman than "calls it like they see it" TFL.
I personally have not had any luck with two sets of Pirelli tires. The first set was ok. Performance was marginal at best. The second set has been terrible. Dealer replaced one brand new tire but should have replaced 3 of them. They ride terrible, they shake, and performaance is just ok. I will never purchase Pirelli tires. I only had them in the first place because that is what my 2 new vehicles came with.
Hi. Interesting video, though not a true all terrain IMHO, they performed well for a road bias tyre. If you want a Pirelli AT, you should look at the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus, this is a seriously good tyre, with good road manners but can cut it off road with some of the best ATs around now. In some ways similar to the Grabber AT2 but with a unique tread pattern, good side wall protection, and 3 Peaks rating. We have only had them four months to be fair and only done about 3 K miles, but they have been impressive in snow, clay and forest trail. They are fitted to our DII which has a tuned TD5, but it is stock other wise and we run standard size 235 70 16 tyres. Have run overs size before on Defender, RRC, XJ, etc., in different makes and types including Maxxis, BFG, General, the Pirelli's are as good as all these. Keep up the good work.
Seem abundantly adequate all season tires. I'm dubious of all season tires. After being dissatisfied with the snow handling of most all seasons I have used dedicated seasonal tires for many years. I'm trying Michelin CrossClimate 2 ("all climate") tires now and so far they are better than all seasons BUT I haven't driven in snow yet. All seasons may be ok when new but not genuinely good for any particular environment and get worse, in each, as they age. I'm curious how these would compare to all climate tires which do get the 3 peak mountain snowflake rating.
All weather tires are great on snow, I opted for Kumho Solus HA32, there are more than 9 inches of snowfall this winter and it handled immaculately, went to a ski resort up the mountains yesterday with heavy snowfall as well, no problem and did not feel unsafe one bit at all. There are times when I see people with steelies and snow tires still slides around on unplowed streets but mine didn't!
@@kpokfposkf My experience has been that I've been happy with 1 set of all season tires in the snow. That was in 94. I've had others that were competent but none ever inspired confidence. I'll see how these all climates do but in my experience nothing compares to dedicated seasonal tires. When switching wheels between seasons I did things a little backwards. I installed snow tires on my stock rims & bought larger rims for high performance summer tires. Between symmetrical AWD & winter tires sliding was optional, even before the plows were out;)
@@michaelsprinzeles4022 that's great haha, i mean seasonal tire swaps are the best you can do as far as safety goes, but tire swap labor adds up, so all weather tires will do for now, for people who wanted affordable and sufficient safety on their commutes year round. I used to have all terrain tires on my previous car, I thought it did well year round but all weather tires did arguably better on snow with FWD alone so I am quite satisfied. People should not buy all season tires, they should legally be named 3-season tires lol
@@kpokfposkf Ironically, when I did commute it was to be at work at 4am for a rain or shine type job in a brown box truck. I had only FWD back then (on my own cars, the trucks were RWD). Then it was worth the swap for me. It's only now that I'm no longer working that I considered trying the new all climate category tires. All climates are supposed to handle all 4 seasons...TBD
@@michaelsprinzeles4022 Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if all seasons gradually transition into all-weather tires (or the other way around) in the future in North America. Europe is already calling all-weather tires - all seasons. If you look for "tyre reviews" on here, everything they said about all seasons are actually all weather tires. Most people will buy into the confusion thinking all season tires are decent on snow in fact they aren't (it's a marketing thing). Or if you search "2021 Auto Bild all season tyre test", you will see how all weather tires compare to winter and summer tires on all sorts of weather conditions (although some products aren't available in the NA market).
Come on now boys? You couldn't have simply simply gotten a fire truck to wet down a stretch of road? Maybe incorporate some attention for their particular firehouse or just fire safety in general maybe from a secondary vehicle? Still great video content!
This is one paid sponsorship you shouldn't have accepted. You put worse tires on the Jeep than it came with. These tires are worthless in the wet or snow.
Why not compare it to the superior BFG Trail TerrainI I have them on my 2012 Grand Cherokee. Yeah I looked at Pirelli Scorpions AS+3 and my tire dealer was pushing them but chose the Trail Terrain. Owner of my tire place a former IMSA racer would have talked to me about my choice if he disagrred. I have been buying tire from him since 1987. Spent well over $20K with them. And my GC goes down sketchy farm roads and across fields with my herding dogs and commutes on DC area interstatest 75mph + and the tires perform great.
Not true at all. I have Scorpion Zeros (not the verde, regular W pattern zeros) I can drive in 8" of snow in my Land Rover zero issues and they are not even a snow tire. Never been stuck in them. Not great on ice but no all season tire is. If you want the best use road tires summer and winter rated tires in the winter.
Yea if all you do is drive in dried up river beds, mud etc. Don't get road tires. But then those tires are loud and rough on the highway so no free lunch.
TERRIBLE VIDEO. But sponsored by the tire manufacture. Not a good review, leaned too much to Perelli and no tires to compare too. Plus some very stupid comments: Not only in CO, can you drive up a mountain to get to snow; bozo. How about MT, ID, WY, UT just to name others? Three peak snowflake symbol is on many tires that are considered all weather and DO NOT melt off in summer. Ludicrous statement of the video. Get your act together and do some research!
Commonsense could have told you we do not or never needed 2 different types of tires, In the past tire companies just wanted to make extra money by selling a product by deception that making you think we needed 2 types of tires . It has never been true, and always a lie. tires made with a good solid wear rubber and proper tread, will always win, And now they been deliberately selling a lie newer sized tires on vehicles, The facts are well hidden re bias tires for safety as compared to radials. You never hear about the fact that radial tires have a very weak side wall structure compared to bias tires, A side wall of todays tires, are never to be used in off road and rough terrain, Just wait and compare a side wall being pinched as to a bias tire, No comparison as to witch will stand up longer, And just watch them sell you a real expensive tire that does not need air, but the style they show is an excellent tire that will probably get torn up or stuck with branches through it, Just as the cheap and useless aluminum rims they are selling you looks good, but just how often do you have to buy a new rim, because it gets damaged, by continually changing tires at a tire shop, Just look at the the tire machine scrapings they make that ruins the rim, and they sell you another rim, because yours can't be sealed, ( A brilliant way for manufactures to get more money from you as an after sales market trick) Asshole and shitty music, WHY DO IDIOTS ALWAYS ANNOY PEOPLE WITH THEIR USELESS MUSIC?

Too many electronic variables introduced. Too little off road conditions. I now have more questions about this AT.
Just reading the title I feel like its California
Loved it
Pirelli commercial.
Come on now boys? You couldn't have simply simply gotten a fire truck to wet down a stretch of road? Maybe incorporate some attention for their particular firehouse or just fire safety in general maybe from a secondary vehicle? Still great video content!
Nathan, the Rainmaker
Not a pirelli fan. When worn 30 percent they seem to get slippery fast
I never generalize about a whole brand, it depends on the specific tire model and size. There are good and bad Michelins too.
This is one paid sponsorship you shouldn't have accepted. You put worse tires on the Jeep than it came with. These tires are worthless in the wet or snow.
Pirelli scorpion was good for Moto Guzzi Griso ;)
It's a good crossover, not a fan of the new gen look yet
Maybe a 5 years a go this tire sell is high, but now Goodrich and Toyo take over, due to better grip and noise
Because Pirelli provided these tires free of charge to give an honest opinion. Perhaps BFG will send them free tires as well in return for a review
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Free of charge for an honest opinion???? yeah right.
@@fredmertz3837 not to you or I of course, but to a RUclips content creator with a massive following. Absolutely.
Nathan was the highlight of this video. And he was also the best dresser. Roman and Andre need to ditch those man overboard survival suits!
Well, unfortunately the Pirelli Scorpion that came on my 2022 f150 are tragic on the snow. TRAGIC.
Nice commercial.
Defenders are an ugly van tire..
Not enough tread for me, I need a good beefy all terrain, looks like a passenger car tire
Yea if all you do is drive in dried up river beds, mud etc. Don't get road tires. But then those tires are loud and rough on the highway so no free lunch.
Wow shocking they like the tires provider by the sponsor of the video.. not a very impartial review
Lies lies lies ROMAN I live in Los Angeles, In a couple hours I was in the dunes, mountains, snow(big bear), beach (venice).
Great tires but probably the crappiest truck that could be found for this test..... credibility?
2:52 Tested on one of the worst SUV's be it off-road or on-road.
TFL is literally just putting out repurposed videos. This seems like a cheap excuse for a video, how many WK2 videos has TFL made?? just sayn
No infomercials for me. I'm out.
C'mon guys, this review is tainted by sponsorship money......I'm surprised you have pulled this fast one despite your loyal fans. Not good.
😯😯😯
Another commercial! Come on! 💩
Watching the steering wheel didn’t really provide any benefit to the viewer.
👀
*sigh* They didn't send you Scorpion ATs. Not interested.
Get your act together and do some research!
crap city tires just a shit tire go bfg
NO, it's impossible.
One of the worst tires made
Why?
Commonsense could have told you we do not or never needed 2 different types of tires,
In the past tire companies just wanted to make extra money by selling a product by deception that making you think we needed 2 types of tires .
It has never been true, and always a lie.
tires made with a good solid wear rubber and proper tread, will always win,
And now they been deliberately selling a lie newer sized tires on vehicles,
The facts are well hidden re bias tires for safety as compared to radials.
You never hear about the fact that radial tires have a very weak side wall structure compared to bias tires, A side wall of todays tires, are never to be used in off road and rough terrain, Just wait and compare a side wall being pinched as to a bias tire, No comparison as to witch will stand up longer,
And just watch them sell you a real expensive tire that does not need air, but the style they show is an excellent tire that will probably get torn up or stuck with branches through it,
Just as the cheap and useless aluminum rims they are selling you looks good, but just how often do you have to buy a new rim, because it gets damaged, by continually changing tires at a tire shop, Just look at the the tire machine scrapings they make that ruins the rim, and they sell you another rim, because yours can't be sealed, ( A brilliant way for manufactures to get more money from you as an after sales market trick)
Asshole and shitty music,
WHY DO IDIOTS ALWAYS ANNOY PEOPLE WITH THEIR USELESS MUSIC?
