I do see some oversights in the video, as both a Windows and Mac user. Windows+printscreen saves to screenshots folder in pictures on windows, since windows 10 (maybe 8). Snipping tool just seems to be most popular. F2 renames files, enter opens them. Much more intuitive on windows imo.
I agree most other things listed in this video. Airdrop, touch gestures, spotlight search, consistency. Like, who needs two web browsers, two settings apps, two text editors (+one of you install Word), I could go on. Not to mention, a search bar that is crap, and constant ads for their crappy Edge browser down your throat? Do better Microsoft!
Edit: now I read through a lot of the comments and most of my gripes were pointed out lol, oops

  • @ArtemGms
    @ArtemGms Год назад +58

I agree with most points. The mistakes like renaming were already pointed out.
One thing that wasn't metioned is the first point - on Windows, you see a path to that file and if it ends with "*" it hasn't been saved. Some Windows apps like notepad in Win11 even have this dot basically.
One thing I must point out on MacOS is the preview option. It's just so freaking convenient to use in a folder and it's so much faster than opening the full program needed to display the file on Windows.
On the other hand, what I just can't understand is how Apple is able to come up with something like this and then completely skip 6 huge features Windows has built in and you have to install 6 different (mostly opensource apps) to get them on Mac.
I use both OS daily and I pretty much came to the conclusion that there is NO PERFECT operating system. I know it sounds like that guy who just wants to stay out of a conflict but it is true.
There are things I love and things are absolutely hate on both operating systems.
It's the same with android and iOS.
    Peace.

1:52 Honestly I think using Windows’s F2 key to rename is still faster. You can reach it with your left hand (while still keeping your right hand on the mouse) instead of having to leave the mouse with your right hand or stretching all the way to the return/enter key on the right side of the keyboard with your left hand.

Well, you're wrong about one thing. The snipping tool saves screenshots automatically in the Screenshots folder... and if you have OneDrive backup enabled it syncs to OneDrive. Other than that, I agree. I got my first ever Mac and though I'm having a hard time figuring out how to maximize a window or cut paste, for example your videos have been immensely helpful. All are short, precise and to the point. Kudos

    • @eclipticpath

Mac doesn't let you cut files away. You either paste them, or optionally move them by also pressing option (⌥). You can always see what option the option button gives by pressing it in a context menu, and for example, see "open in new window" change to "open in new private window"
To maximize a window to fit its content: Double Click the top bar
To maximize it to whole screen: ⌥ + Double Click a corner
(Or download a snapping app like Rectangle)

Actually you can have some sort of "hot-corner" on Windows. This option is called "Select the far corner corner of the taskbar to show the desktop".

I got a MacBook Air 15. I've never seen a Mac laptop in real life. If only it's keyboard was as good as my Legion 5 Pro 16. The Mac's layout reminds me of ChromeOS, and the settings app on Ventura and Windows 11 are similar. I don't especially like any of these OS', but I liked Windows 10. From what I've read, there a lot of people who prefer the previous MacOS. To sum everything up, I think they'll continue to become more and more a like. I wouldn't be surprised if those three eventually become one OS, with Linux as the only alternative. Similar to the brutalism occurring today - less options, less color, more grey.

Just to let you know most of the time they ask you if you want to save your work on Windows And Windows has a lot of legacy software. You don't have to throw out your computer all the time when they stop supporting it like on a Mac And the animations give a delay in closing and opening apps so if you want a responsive computer. Since you're using a mouse, just right click on the object and rename on windows. The way that Windows uses your RAM, you may have some apps that are running in the background. In Windows all you need to do is close them in task manager To free up some RAM. And windows uses ram differently. Can you change the amount of ram in your system on a Mac after you bought it?

    - preview is good
    - animations suck in windows, true
    - backward compatibility messes with UI uniformity, true
    - right click in windows (11, not 10) is an abomination, true
    - to get to your desktop, click Win+D, or there's a a small seek button at bottom right corner, hover to view, click to jump to desktop, click again to come back to active windows, or swipe with 3 or 4 fingers down and up to go to desktop and come back respectively
    - to screenshot, press Win+print screen button, this will save in Screenshots folder (can be set to some custom location i guess, dunno)
    - there's F2 for rename, but yes, enter key to rename makes sense
    - file path teleportation is awesome, nearest feature we have is pasting/modifying the file path on windows explorer path bar
    - the mac os help menu is a dream come true

The best comparison I've heard is this:
"Mac is like a Tesla, it's lean, it's fast, it's efficient, looks great but it has imperfections here and there that makes you want to pull your hair when it occurs. Windows is like the Hummer EV, does the same thing and more but less efficient and it still has the unnecessary bells and whistles found in the older Hummer that ultimately bogs it down. Powerful but wastes a ton of energy doing the same thing."
    I own a G14 with i9 and RTX 3070 alongside a 16" MBP M3 Pro...
...there's something about the Mac that just gets the basics so right so I reach for it 85% of the time. Display, speakers, battery life/efficiency, webcam...
The G14, I only use it for gaming, I appreciate Windows. I love my G14 no doubt but I just cannot bring myself to "love" Windows fully beyond its gaming prowess.

    1. Default scaling is super minuscule, I had to crank up different system settings to make it bearably acceptable. Alternatively you can chose 720 HDPI setting and everything becomes so huge that external monitor setup looses its worth.
On windows side of things you can set any % of scaling without any hustle and everything works like a dream.
    2. There is no ext monitor control out of the box. You can't change volume (if there are speakers hooked up through it) or brightness.
    3. There is no easy way to transfer apps between screens. You can setup specific short-keys, but it is not as effortless as on Win side.

Lol, Full screen on MacOS is so annoying. For a GUI heavy interface, the Menu systems on mac os is horrible. Also I am selling my Macbook Pro M1. Windows multi tasking IMO is better, split screen, multi tasks etc.

    The silence ?
    What.
    I have a zeohyrus g14
So pretty slim, light and can do many things for it's form factor , the fans doesn't show up at all
It's fan less at this point and the temps are around 50°C and the performance ? I mean no downgrade even if you play minecraft on the APU no fans at all just like the macbook air
Yes it doesn't have the same battery life
    Around 10-11 hours
But considering what you can do
And how flexible it is compared to macOS ( because the M chips are great honnestly) it is a great computer that many mac user friends loved :D

    • @satysin630

But the 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro has a much bigger notch that extends the full width of the screen wasting even more space. Otherwise known as a bezel. While the notch is a bit weird to look at I am very happy with less wasted screen estate on my 2023 MBP vs my old one.

    • @dvg9904

the notch actually doesn't stick out of the bezel, instead the bezel around the notch was cut out, and when using apps in fullscreen the notch completely dissappears

as some one that has just switched to Mac this was crazy informative.. Mac is better over all imo. I don't always agree with their business tactics lol but from someone that has literally used windows for 28 years and just bought a 2014 used Mac mini I won't be going back. I will just keep buying used Mac minis hell of a computer for 150 bucks. They just work and they don't get in the way when you are creating art or sound or video... they just work... no driver issues, hardware issues etc.. I don't care about gaming on a pc anymore. just play games on the playstation. much cheaper. windows 7 was the last good windows os. everything after that was disgusting imo. I loved xp and 7.
